The job had been done quickly in the end, but it always happened fast ultimately. The lead up took way longer, death was quick. Yoongi lowered his hand and was about to say something to his men, but then he heard a sound coming from the hallway. No one was supposed to still be out there. He looked over his shoulder at Hobi and then frowned, moving over to the door quietly, gun by his side. Lifting his free hand, he gestured to Hobi and Namjoon to stay as he pushed the door open and looked.
He saw no one at first, then he realised that his eyes were looking too high up. There someone was. Someone tiny. Why the hell was there a child here?
Yoongi moved the gun behind his thigh and bent down to kneel, so he'd be closer to being on the boy's height. "Hey."
There was a really loud noise and it woke him up, that's why he was out and about. Usually right now was bed time but now it wasn't because something was wrong. It had changed. He just didn't know what had made it change. Kangwoo didn't like change thouugh. He didn't look at Yoongi, he looked down at the textures in the carpet and rocked back and forth a little, unsure what to do or say because there was a stranger in the house. No one came into appa's house and made bang bang noises before.
Kangwoo whined a little and then turned around, running back into his bedroom. Shutting the door as best he could behind him, he scampered under his bed and made himself small. Better. Much better.
He covered his ears and tried to wait. Soon he'd be gone if Kangwoo pretended he wasn't here.
"Kang-ah? Time to get up." Yoongi wasn't sure what the sleep schedule for the kid was like normally, but he didn't want to let him sleep in too long, or he might not be able to sleep when he was supposed to. Besides, breakfast was important. Yoongi gently put a hand on Kangwoo's shoulder, stretched out on the bed next to him. "Good morning."
He really had to go and report to Jimin, but that could wait until after breakfast and until after he'd figured out what to do with the kid.
Waking up was always hard. Waking up in a strange place in a strange bed was way harder. And way more distressing. He woke up, he recognised nothing, he saw different sheets and colours. A small whine slowly built that transformed to sobbing as he lay there, unsure what else to do but freak out because a strange man was talking to him and nothing was right!
Freaked out and on edge, he kept on scream/crying.
Honestly, Minjun wasn't sure how to do this. He wasn't sure whether there was a good way to do this, a right way to do this, because he just really didn't want to do this. But he had to, he knew there was no way around it.
So he had ordered them Thai food, they were sitting by the television and they were watching The Lion King. Finally they had gotten to the part where Nala was telling Simba to come home and Minjun reached out, pausing the movie.
He cleared his throat, turned to Ten and rubbed his neck. "So..."
"... What?" Since when was this a participation film? Ten stared at Minjun for a long time, unsure how to even answer. "He goes to kill Scar. Have you never seen this one?" He was sure Minjun said he'd seen it before, did he not know what Simba was going to do? Did he disagree with Simba?
Was this some weird PA way to get Ten to stop looking at his phone and focus on the movie more?
"What do you think Timon should do?" Well, apparently they were asking dumb questions.
Yoongi checked his phone as he walked in, just to make sure he hadn't gotten any emergency calls or messages about Kangwoo just yet. He was bracing himself for it and he had his phone on vibrate, just in case. Still, he did slip his phone into his pocket when he stopped in front of Jimin, nodding his head a little.
"Hey." This was going to be fun. Yoongi looked at the guards standing with Jimin and gestured. They knew him. They headed for the door. He wanted privacy for this.
Jimin gestured at everyone in the room to leave because he just wanted Yoongi, all alone, to himself and ready to report the good news. He loved whenever Yoongi came by, it only meant good things. With a smile, he sat back where he was currently hanging out and set his phone aside. "How did it go?"
"Kang-ah. Kaaaang-ah, come here please." Oh boy. Namjoon was stressed. They had an accident with Kangwoo, they fucked up noticing when he needed the bathroom, they had a stained rug and a tiny boy screaming over an attempted bath. Namjoon was very ... unsure. One moment he had Kangwoo in the bath, the next he was gone. Literally. Kangwoo somehow climbed out of the bath and ran away, wet and naked.
Namjoon, splashed and scratched, looked at Hobi with alarm. "Did you see where Kang-ah ran to?" This kid was... a lot. "Yoongi is going to kill us. Did you clean his rug?"
"...yeah. Sure did clean the rug." Mostly it was a wet rug now. Honestly, Hobi had no idea how to clean a damn job and so he hadn't done a good job of it. He considered stopping short of it being entirely soaked a win. "I think he ran..."
Hobi turned on his heels, looking around. He was clueless. They were trained assassins, how could the tiny kid escape them?! "Kang-ah?! Kangwoo, where are you, sweetheart?"
He frowned and looked at Namjoon. "I bet Yoongi-hyung paid him to be annoying." Hobi lowered his voice. "He was a perfect angel with him! This is a test."
"So... I haven't actually seen them since I was sixteen. No idea if we'll recognise each other." Although Minjun was fairly sure that his bleached hair and general demeanour would be a give-away no matter what they might look like. "Like... Yejoon was a kid when I left, kinda. Like, he was fifteen? And Gyungho... I don't know. He always had a handsome face though, you'll like him."
At least look-wise. Face-wise. Personality... Well, Ten was already poised not to like any of his old friends. He gave Ten's hand a squeeze and smiled at him. His beautiful boyfriend who was all right with him dressing the way he did, even at an airport.
"And you look so stupid." Well. He did. Ten smiled and took his hand, walking through the airport and trying to look for people he didn't even know. He had no idea how they would find them or who they were going to be so--
"MINJUN! MINJUUUUUUUN!"
Gyungho waved his hands aggressively in the air, failing a pathetic paper sign with Minjun's name on. Next to him was the very unfortunate Yejoon, who was holding four happy meals ready to be given out and consumed. Gyungho knew how to treat his bae. Gyungho had pulled himself together since sobbing in the shower for a solid hour over being a worthless hyung and his shitty conversation. Now he was in a suit, his hair nicely styled and looking like the life of the party. At an airport. "Junnnnnnie!"
"What can I get for like... hang on..." Gyungho sat at a table, fancily dressed and clearly making his point, just judging by how his waiter was almost trembling. Gyungho had an easy smile and a friendly manner but he was still a gangster. A dark dragon. He told them he was here on behalf of Cheon, started explaining some things to the hapless general manager and then gave up. He'd asked for the owner to come out and speak to him, it was the easiest way to make things clear.
But for now, Gyungho wanted some food.
"I got like-- this is fifteen bucks in cash." He held them up to show the waiter. "Go make me the best thing you can for ten bucks and I'll give you the five if it's good."
As the poor waiter ran off, Gyungho leaned back and looked around the place. It used to be smaller, it definitely had a remodelling done. He also remembered the walls being a different colour but maybe that was just his weird memories.
Jin halted the waiter with a hand on his shoulder, demanding to know what the rush was. When he was filled in, he gave orders to cook up some of the best dishes on the menu for their special guest and then he checked his hair, took a deep breath and pretended to be braver than he was when he walked into the dining room, right up to Gyungho's table.
He bowed respectfully, then looked at him politely. "I hope you are hungry. The food is on the house, of course."
"Hey." Yoongi just walked into the room and then gestured to the security standing behind Jimin. Not so surprisingly, they actually stepped back right away. The upside to being the one in charge of Jimin's security. Another was that he tended to stay informed on what was going on with Jimin.
And so he raised his eyebrows at him now. "Do you remember the last time we talked?"
Tae was sitting next to Jimin, now actually lowering the Nintendo Switch he was playing with to look at Yoongi. "He remembers everything about you."
"Shut up!" Jimin threw a soft plushie at TaeTae and then turned his head, looking at Yoongi. His assassin. His loyal friend. The hot guy. He looked him over with a smile on his face and then he leaned back, not sure what he was talking about exactly. "Hey, Yoongi! I remember. You told me about the baby and sorting out my ranks. Which we are."
They were almost done. Unsurprisingly, TaeTae kept his job.
"Do you want a drink or anything? We can call Jungkookie and he can fetch you something."
Ever since they'd arrived in Korea, life had been busy and also consisted of spending a lot of money. Almost absurd amounts. They had a very nice apartment, they had decorated it. They had gotten suits and other clothes and they had generally done all they could to dress to impress.
Minjun was especially fond of the coat he was currently wearing over his suit. He held Ten's hand as they walked into the jewellery store, pushing his sunglasses up. There were two men with them, both armed. Minjun knew they had to make a show of it, Cheon would know soon. Why not let him find out in style?
He stepped behind Ten and wrapped his arms around him, propping his chin up on his shoulder. Turning his head he took one of his earrings between his teeth and gave it a gentle tug, then he whispered. "You feel like diamonds? Rubies? Gold? Silver?"
"All of them." Ten laughed and leaned his head back, gently kissing Minjun on the cheek and ignoring the look he was getting from the lady running the counter. Korea was so conservative, it was unsettling and odd in some ways. He was used to New York, they'd met there and it was kind of their second home. And in New York, anything goes.
They practically dry humped on the subway once and most people didn't even look up from their phones. No one cared. Here, everyone cared. Way too much.
"All right, now we need to do the mission briefing." Yoongi knelt down in front of Kangwoo and buttoned up his jacket, then helped him put on his face mask. Behind him, Hobi couldn't hold in his 'awww', but Yoongi decided to ignore it. "It's very important that you stay right with appa, Kang-ah, yeah? And you tell me if you have any issue. Namjoon and Hobi will be there to guarantee everything runs smoothly."
Hobi was mostly concerned with taking cute pictures of Kangwoo right now. "Kang-ah, make a heart! Big heart."
Kangwoo, unsure what exactly was happening, raised his little arms and made a heart. Namjoon died. Seriously, he died, he was dead and this was too cute. "Oh Kang-ah, that's so precious! You're so cute." He looked like Yoongi had shrunk, with his tiny mask, hat and glasses.
Eagerly, Kangwoo gripped onto Yoongi's pants and tried to stay as close to him as he could. "Mission." They had a mission. He knew that. "We gotta go mission."
