Jimin gestured at everyone in the room to leave because he just wanted Yoongi, all alone, to himself and ready to report the good news. He loved whenever Yoongi came by, it only meant good things. With a smile, he sat back where he was currently hanging out and set his phone aside. "How did it go?"
"Like..." Yoongi held a hand out, formed a gun with his fingers and moved it. Bang. Seemed like a good indication. "He's dead. I'm sure you heard." Hadn't been that subtle. Also wasn't the part they had to talk about.
Yoongi watched his own hand as he relaxed it again, no longer curled into a gun shape. And he sighed. "There was a boy there. A baby. Toddler. Whatever. Baek Kangwoo. He's with me now, I promised I'd protect him."
And he had every intention of keeping that promise.
"I knew it was good news but I still love hearing you tell me." The Baek family leader was dead, a message had been sent and revenge was had for his poor father, murdered in cold blood so cruelly. He no longer felt like he was a failure and that was good, it made things easier. Yoongi was all he needed to make a good power play in this city.
He expected a summary of the murder, he always did but... not this.
"... There's a boy?" Since when? "The Baek family doesn't have a son. Are you sure it belongs to them?"
"He's his son, yeah. He's autistic, so Baek-nim kept him locked away, he's hardly ever been outside." Something that still made him so very angry. No wonder that Kangwoo didn't seem to miss his father, quite the opposite. Yoongi really wanted to show the boy a better life, so keeping him safe was vital.
He looked up briefly, just to make sure Jimin was where he thought he was, then he took a step closer. "I don't know who knew the boy exists and if they'll let anyone else know. My men won't."
"Autistic?" Huh. He didn't know what to do with this? The Baeks had a kid with mental issues they just kept locked away? Was he mad or annoyed over Yoongi keeping him or did he just feel bad for the kid. It was hard to say. He was so thrown, he didn't know what to do. "Well... I mean, that is sad but... are you really going to keep the kid? I could find someone who'd be willing to handle him."
He meant that in both take care and get rid. He deliberately left it vague. "It seems like a dangerous move to keep him."
"There isn't anyone else who could keep him as safe as I can. It's not dangerous for me. I don't trust anyone else." And, yes, that included Jimin. He raised his eyebrows a little. Handle him? Yeah, right. He trusted no one.
Of course, no one still meant that he did trust his people, but that was different. He only had people he trusted completely, that were loyal to a fault. He didn't have to get into that.
"I'm letting you know. Not asking for permission."
He was a free agent. He just chose to work for Jimin.
"Oh. Can I... meet the boy?" He saw the look on Yoongi's face and then he was swiftly backtracking. "Later! When he's settled, I--I... I don't want to cause any problems for you. Or him. You both are just great." He smiled awkwardly at Yoongi and cursed himself for getting so flustered. He just didn't know how to handle this part of the equation. He never expected the addition of a child to this thing.
"So, uh, I like your shirt. By the way." It was yellow. Jimin knew he loved yellow. It was why the room had a vague yellow theme now. "It's good on you."
"...maybe." Yoongi didn't think that Jimin would want to hurt a boy, not when he had a second to consider it, but still. He didn't want to make any promises that he couldn't keep. Looking down himself he tugged a little on the shirt, feeling the fabric between the fingers. "The boy picked it. He has a yellow giraffe shirt, sooo..."
It made sense to the baby and at the time. He finally looked at Jimin, or at least somewhere very close to his head. "Ko Cheon is going to take over the Dark Dragons now, isn't he? He's bad news."
"That's so cute." Jimin laughed, looking all shy and bashful, not really fitting the whole gangster vibe. Sometimes he tried harder, attempted to at least look badass... sometimes he just smiled and fell in love even harder than he already was.
"Ko Cheon?" Oh.
Well. That snapped him out of his love daze. He forgot about Cheon. With a small frown, he shrugged his shoulders. "I guess, a bit, but I plan to meet with him so maybe we can reach a middle ground."
Yoongi frowned, taking another step closer and actually searching out Jimin's eyes. Just how naive was he? Damn. "Cheon is a pig. Tell me when you plan to meet him, I'll make sure security is up for it."
Jimin needed protection. He was already considering whether he could make sure that he'd be there personally. "You are a pretty boy. He's probably going to get weird about that."
"We said we would go minimal to meet or he wouldn't go. I have some people, I'll be fine. It's not like he'd try to kill me right then and there." Oh yeah, he was plenty naive. He didn't quite get it. He felt like a king right now, why would he accept it could go any other way when he was on top of the world? It didn't seem likely.
Instead of worrying that Cheon could do whatever the hell he wanted, he smiled at Yoongi, lost in his schoolboy crush. "You think I'm pretty?"
"Yeah. You have a nice face." Yoongi didn't see what was so remarkable about him pointing out the obvious, he was more concerned about how cocky Jimin was in approaching the situation. So he kept looking at him, even kneeling down so he could better hold his gaze. He had to try to get through to him.
"He might try to kill you. You just had his boss killed." Why did he feel so invincible? "Anyone can get killed. You are no exception."
Yoongi frowned. "I should be there when you meet him."
"You're worried about me?" Yes, that was what he was getting from this. Which, to be fair, should be taken as a win because before this, he found the idea of Yoongi being there very appealing and without Yoongi, he may die. Or get very taken advantage of. He didn't actually want a war, despite his war like actions - he wanted to make peace with Cheon. Appease him.
And anyone who knew Cheon knew it was a bad idea.
"It's this Friday. Do you have time to come?" Or would that damn baby get in the way of him and Yoongi having time together? "You could help me get through it all."
"You pay me well. Dead men pay significantly less." Just true. Not that Yoongi wasn't fond of Jimin, didn't kind of think he needed to be taken care of, but saying that openly seemed unprofessional. "I'll make time. It will be my usual rate."
He wasn't going to undersell himself, just because he was worried about Jimin. "Try not to look too sexy. I know that's a challenge for you."
"I'll try." Jimin was blushing furiously and he covered his face with his hands. He couldn't help it, he was giddy. He never got to associate with many people himself growing up - life of an heir to a gangster family was hard. In many ways, Jimin was just a sheltered, spoilt kid who had way too much power. Of course he was doomed to get himself into trouble sooner or later.
"I'll see you Friday. Same rate as always. Maybe a little extra." Jimin smiled eagerly at Yoongi, just wanting to win him over and keep him on side. "You try not to ... to look sexy too." Oh yeah, he was clumsily flirting right back.
"A lot less of a challenge there." Yoongi smiled a little, lowering his eyes as he did so. This had been a lot of looking right at someone, he was happy not to do it again today. "You shouldn't tell anyone about the baby boy. If anyone knows about him, it can't be many. His therapist, nanny, maybe Cheon? I don't know, his father really did keep him locked up."
What a cruel asshole. "I wish I'd killed him more slowly."
"He might have done it for his own good. I mean he was vulnerable and he's ... he's an heir. We're not allowed to do a lot." In Jimin's warped world, it seemed about right. A little shocking that he was hidden but he just didn't think it was that sinister. He knew that for a large chunk of time, he wasn't allowed outside either, he had a death threat against him. "I always wanted to go to dance classes and learn to sing but... you know, you can't."
It wasn't an easy world and he got more freedom to follow these passions as an adult, not a child. "Not that I'm defending him. He's a Baek and all but -- it's just hard to be an heir. You don't get a childhood."
"You should do dance lessons now. Singing. No one gonna stop you." Also, maybe it'd be better if Jimin found someone else to take care of day-to-day business and focused on his hobbies, whatever they might be. Maybe he could get a pet? Yoongi wasn't sure, but he knew that keeping Jimin alive, keeping him safe... It wasn't going to be easy.
"I want to improve your security. Who works for you now, Jimin-ssi? What's the hierarchy like?"
"Erm, well, there's me and then there's my second in command, TaeTa-- erm, Taehyung. He's been with me since I was ten and he's my age. We've been doing most of our planning together. His father was a high runner." Who Tae killed and Jimin helped him dispose of the body but hey, that counted. "Security was run by my cousin but he left so now I passed it onto koo-- Jeon Jungkook. He's my man who handles all that."
Jimin waved his dismissive hand.
"And that's about it. I'm still sorting out my rankings but I trust Taehyung and Jungkook above all others." And they were his childhood playmates soooooo ... yeah.
Not a single name he recognised. Not a good sign. And they were people Jimin's age? Damn. "It's good. Having people you trust close." This could get messy really fast.
"But you need some with more experience too, Jimin-ssi. And people who already have connections and a name. You could lose a lot of what your father had, influence-wise. Especially with the Dark Dragons under Cheon, he's a greedy bastard."
This whole situation was even more dangerous than he'd thought. "And you need to sort out the ranking quickly. People need to know what they are at. They need to swear loyalty to you. Every single one."
"Well... my dad did that. I wanted to keep it the same but people kept arguing and telling me stuff so I just -- I don't know, at least I can trust what Tae tells me." Jimin was thrown into this whole mess with the death of his father, he had many people seeking power or just trying to help him and he couldn't tell them apart. He was flustered, overwhelmed and slowly losing staff to the Dark Dragons.
He had been hoping the hit would make a point but apparently not.
"I'll sort out ranks by the time you next come! Erm... the time after the next time you come cause this week is kinda busy. So next time." Jimin had plans with Tae and he didn't want to ditch them for work. "I'll handle it. Promise."
Damn him. Jimin was cute, but he had grown up entirely too sheltered. He barely knew the business and he didn't know to be afraid. Yoongi didn't want to scare him, not really, but he did want him to survive. And so he reached up to put a hand on his knee, finally looking at him properly again. "We have to sort things out before Friday. Before you meet Cheon. You might have a war on your hands, Jimin-ssi, you need your family to be united."
"I won't have war. It's ... It's going well. I can -- I mean, this week I have to try and look at accounts so..." He was behind on that. On a lot of stuff. He and Tae had made an action plan to keep up with their work load this week but he didn't know how to. Appa always told him 'later' whenever he asked how something worked and now, here he was, much later on and kinda fucked. His father loved him too much, that was the problem here.
"I think we're kinda united. There's some issues but... I'll sort it. Promise. When you come on Friday, we'll have all the ranks and stuff just, you know, sorted and done." Jimin smiled nervously, hating that his bluff was being called cause it was kind of scary to think about how much there was to do. "Trust me, I got this."
"...whatever you say, Jimin-ssi." Yoongi let go of his thigh and finally got up, bowing his head slightly as he stepped back again. "I'll sort your security. That all goes through me. So don't worry about that."
He clearly had a lot of other things to worry about. "Make sure they are there too, your trusted friends. I should probably be familiar with them."
"Sure, they will be. Just... trust me, it's okay. They're my best friends, they'll help me." And he was going to push how much he needed this all sorted tonight over dinner. And maybe a movie. A serious movie! No fun, they were going to be very serious. And hopefully get stuff done. "Thanks for helping me, hyung."
He really did adore him, he was his hero. "I'll see you on Friday."
