Jungkook, who looked very pissed ... not unlike Yoongi, came over and stood next to Tae, not bothering to look at him. He was focused on this conversation. He was hoping, and praying, that Yoongi was about to kick Jimin up the ass for being so fucking stupid. It was about time these boys learned to be men.
Jimin, for his part, did look very sheepish. He sat upright and lowered his head a little.
"He texted me offering me the olive branch. I just -- It was a good idea." Now Cheon was being way nicer to him. "It's under control. We met neutrally and only discussed business."
"Give it another month and you will be under Cheon's control." Yoongi kept his voice quiet, the guards didn't need to know that their boss was getting scolded. But he was not happy and if talking to him like a child was the only way to get through to Jimin, he would. "They talk about you, Jimin-ssi. Spineless. Clueless. Pretty boy who bends over for Cheon."
Theirs was a tough business and Jimin had to learn that.
"I don't bend over for him. And no one says that!"
"... With all due respect, Jimin-nim, they do say it. Often. They think you're gullible." Jungkook chipped in, stepping carefully and evenly. He knew he could get into trouble but the sad thing was that he knew he wouldn't. Jimin never did that. He got angry, he yelled at him or Tae but he never really punished either of them. Frankly, he thought Jimin was too naive and kind, Tae had way too much power and this was a mess. He just didn't want to outright state it.
Jimin glared at Jungkook, hating that he was backing up his crush. His crush who was scolding him. "Well, I'm not. They're the gullible ones."
"Maybe they are. But if they believe that you are weak, you are. You are only as strong as people see you." Yoongi took a step closer to Jimin, wanting him to see that he meant it and that he was trying to help him.
"Then we kill Cheon, right?" Tae finally closed his game and put the console aside, sliding closer to Jimin. He didn't want to leave his friend hanging. "Cheon smells. No one likes him."
"That doesn't solve the problem." Jungkook mumbled but he knew that he stood no chance talking sense here so he didn't properly raise his voice, he just moved off to the side and tried to stand there, respectful yet devoid of hope. Tae was too immature in his plans and Jimin was too easy to manipulate.
"Could I just kill Cheon?" It was an honest question, he looked at Yoongi with such desperation. What did he do? Everyone wanted him to do so many different things and he just didn't know what. At least Cheon made things make sense! "I don't know what you all want from me."
"We want you to lead, Jimin-ssi. They want you to lead. You have to be someone worth following." But here he was, just looking at him like a lost puppy and Yoongi felt his heart softening. Of course it did. He frowned and turned to Tae and Jungkook. "Can I talk to him alone for a bit?"
Tae hesitated, but then gave a nod and got up, sliding the console into his pocket. He reached for Jungkook's wrist and tugged him along, smiling at him from the side. "Are you that pissy? Ratting us out to hyung..."
"Jimin nearly died, you idiot..." Jungkook and Tae disappeared and Jimin slowly pulled his knees up to his chest, sitting in his chair protectively and holding himself. Damn it, everyone thought he was stupid and no matter what move he made, people hated him and called him weak. He didn't want to do this.
"Appa told me I'd never have to do this. Not for a long time." He lied. Jimin sighed and closed his eyes, he missed his appa so, so much. He didn't want to handle this stuff. "I can't do this. I'm sorry."
"You can. I know you can." Yoongi wasn't certain, in all honesty, but he had to try to help. He couldn't let him down, let him die. He owed loyalty to Jimin's father and... He liked Jimin. Damn it, he really did.
So he sat down next to him and pulled out his phone, then reached up to take off his face mask. Not something he generally did in public. "How long have you known me, Jimin-ssi?"
"A long time. Appa said you were brilliant." He didn't remember when he met Yoongi, he just remembered one day he saw him and just fell in love. His beautiful face, his cool manner, his strength and honour. "I feel like I've always known you, I guess." And he knew that was dumb but it felt that way. He looked at Yoongi for a while, just holding himself and watching.
Yoongi looked at his phone, trying to find the video he was thinking of. Then he turned it so the screen pointed toward Jimin and he pressed play. It was him with Kangwoo, sitting on the new rug in the living room and playing with Lego. However, since it was also snack time, Yoongi every now and then fed Kangwoo a bite of banana, while singing the banana song.
In the end of the video, Kangwoo climbed on top of Yoongi, singing banana woo with him. Great song.
Yoongi ended the video and looked at Jimin. "Have you ever known me like that?"
"That little boy is so cute." Was that the heir? The little boy at the Baek place? God, he melt for him already. He wanted to hold him. He looked so soft and squishy! Poking his cheeks would feel so fun. "He is so tiny. He must be a toddler still. I didn't know that... that he was in that house. I promise."
Looking at Yoongi, he frowned, getting his point and lowering his head. "I know, I know. I get it. I have to cover it. Not show my soft side. I just don't know how to. I've never led two lives. I led one. Mostly here."
"I know you didn't know that. And I know this is all new for you. Jimin-ssi, you have to be a man and you have to be a leader. But it's up to you what kind of man and leader you are going to be." Yoongi slipped his phone back into his pocket. "You can be close to your friends and good to your men. But you can't let anyone outside of your circle dictate what you'll do. Especially not someone like Cheon. You are better than that, I know that."
"I just wanted to meet him. I thought if we made a truce, it'd spare war and everyone would be happier." No one wanted war, right? "I-- I'll try to do better this time. I'll work out how to handle Cheon. I mean, maybe Tae is right. He was right about killing Baek-nim." And he kinda assumed that it was all going well, Cheon hitch aside. So were some of the other hits that Tae had contracted for him. Such a good friend. "I dunno what I'd do without you and Taehyung."
Yoongi's eyes narrowed the slightest bit, but he covered it up by reaching up and pulling the face mask back on. Then he turned his head to look at Jimin again, not even avoiding his eyes for the moment. "Don't ever meet Cheon again. Not without me. He can't get a handle on me, so it's a sign of strength. Having me by your side."
Taehyung. What was the matter with Taehyung? "Did you make any promises to Cheon?"
"No, I'm not stupid. He asked, I said no. Nothing until Friday." He didn't agree to anything but Cheon did get awfully handsy. Then again, gangsters often did. He took it as a compliment. He smiled at Yoongi and then bowed. "I'll wait for Friday, just me and you. And ... And security, of course. I'll tell Kookie to be ready for it." And hopefully they could pull this mess off without being laughing stocks.
"Min Kangwoo. Yes." No Baek heir, not if he could help it. He would keep him safe forever. "I've told him that you are the cutest too."
And, yes, of course he was flirting. He couldn't help it. Yoongi smiled behind the mask, then tried to focus back on business. "Jungkook-ssi. I want to talk to him, can I? He's a good man, yes?"
Jimin blushed excitedly and tried not to get too carried away. "One day, I would like to meet your boy. I won't ever hurt him. I pledge it to you." And Jimin wouldn't break any more promises, not with Yoongi's trust and loyalty on the line. "I won't break my word again."
At the mention of Jungkook, he nodded a little and gestured towards the door. "Kookie is a good boy, very loyal. His father was my father's adviser but... he got sick, sadly. He left me his son and I like him a lot." Jungkook was a smart, nice boy. And kind of an ass. "You can talk to him."
Yoongi nodded his head and headed out through the door, where he found Tae pouting, playing his game again, but also leaning against Jungkook's shoulder. Something was off about that boy, Yoongi could tell. The evidence kept massing up too.
He gestured to Jungkook. "You. Jungkook-ssi? I want to talk to you about security." And perhaps some other things, but Tae didn't need to know that.
And Tae seemed to have no intention of leaving them alone.
He turned and gave Tae a pointed look but the boy was busy pouting against him so that was that. Unless... "Tae, Jimin probably needs you right now. Shouldn't you go and see him?" It seemed worth a shot. He knew that Tae did care for Jimin, weird relationship and all aside. And Jungkook knew he'd sooner be with Jimin than anyone else.
Jungkook didn't exactly wish to be alone with Yoongi but it seemed useful to talk.
Tae turned the console in his hand and then looked at Jungkook, his face showing a lot but nothing that made much sense to anyone. Too many thoughts, Yoongi couldn't read him. He almost wondered if the boy was all there. But finally Tae nodded.
"Come back in when you're done, Jungkookie. I wanna play with you."
Yoongi watched as Taehyung walked away, then turned his attention back to Jungkook. "So. Would you take a bullet for Jimin-ssi?"
"In a heart beat, Suga-nim." Jungkook didn't even hesitate with is answer. He bowed his head forward, loyal and eager to show it. "I would do anything he asked me. Even if I don't agree with it. The only exceptions are if it'd hurt him." He was sworn to protect him but also to trust him. Which got harder and harder to do.
"The Jeon family has always served the Park family."
"Good. And hyung is enough, Suga-hyung. I'm not in the hierarchy, I'm just older than you." Yoongi shrugged his shoulders and looked at Jungkook. Such an honest boy, very straight-forward. No wonder him and Tae didn't entirely seem to see either eye. "Jimin-ssi is going to be a good leader one day, if he lives long enough. He got thrown in at the deep end and he needs help to swim. You get that, right? What do you think is the problem here?"
"Jimin is naive and unskilled in some respects and... and he treats this like a game. They both do. They don't grasp how real it is. Or-- Or maybe they do." Maybe Tae knew. Maybe Tae was playing a game and he just didn't get what it was. It always felt like that. "I don't know what the problem is but Jimin doesn't exactly help himself and he always listens to Tae. And Tae is ... Tae is impulsive and childish on occasion. He doesn't think it through."
Hence the mess they were in. "I tried to warn them about killing the Baek leader. It wasn't a solution, just a band aid to the issue."
"Not a solution, unless all you're aiming for is his death." Yoongi wasn't sure what to think, ever since he'd learned that it had been Tae's idea. Who was Tae? He had never even heard of him before, never seen him around. He remembered seeing Jungkook before. "Cheon is dangerous, but it's not as simple as killing him. It would create a vacuum and there is plenty of scum to fill it. You know that. Jimin-ssi might not want war, but it will be hard to avoid. He can't keep giving in to Cheon's demands."
"I know all of this but they won't hear it. I'm sorry, hyung. It's out of my hands. I will keep doing the best I can for my friends but I can't do much more." Jungkook bowed and then sighed, looking longingly at the room his boss was in. He wanted to do well, to protect his hyung - his father wanted him to do it, always had. It was just hard.
