"All of them." Ten laughed and leaned his head back, gently kissing Minjun on the cheek and ignoring the look he was getting from the lady running the counter. Korea was so conservative, it was unsettling and odd in some ways. He was used to New York, they'd met there and it was kind of their second home. And in New York, anything goes.
They practically dry humped on the subway once and most people didn't even look up from their phones. No one cared. Here, everyone cared. Way too much.
"I feel like we should get you that Britney Spears outfit one day. You know. The one in Toxic where she is just covered in diamonds, wearing nothing." Well, a guy could dream. Minjun laughed and looked around. "You definitely need earrings. Your selection right now is way too subtle."
And they still had more money to burn. "Bracelets? Necklaces? Tiara? What are you feeling?"
Minjun was very open-minded. The less Korea was, the more was he.
"I do like the idea of a tiara, not gonna lie." Ten did enjoy shopping but it was strange to suddenly just be able to do it. Usually they window shopped and maybe Minjun would get enough to buy him some cheap earring - that was normal. This was kind of crazy. Looking at one of the price tags, he raised an eyebrow and immediately pointed at it. "That's ugly but I want it."
How the fuck was that so expensive? He really wanted the overly sparkly gold bracelet.
"What's a less subtle earring to impressive your rival?" Just wondering, honestly, what was the flashy version of earrings. "You mean the dangly kind?"
"I don't rightly know," Minjun said honestly, "But I know Cheon's old-school, he really does care about that stuff. Big stones, lots of silver, gold, brands." Minjun could do that too, but he also liked to go thrifting. Even when he had money to burn, like right now, he didn't think he would just go for the most expensive stuff.
But it was certainly fun to mix it in. Minjun approached the counter and gestured to the bracelet Ten had pointed out, talking the the woman behind the counter. "He wants to try this, please. And what earrings do you have? Anything with diamonds that dangles?"
After being given a selection, Ten tried some on, he played with a few looks and then, finally, he held up the earrings that he liked the best. And two runners up cause he was getting his money's worth before he died. Two out of three were diamond. One was even dangly. "If we die horribly, I really want to die dressed in this stuff, you know?" He wanted to look hot when it all ended.
As the lady got his purchases, Ten looked at Minjun and reached out, gently cupping his cheek. "Not that I think we will. I have every confidence in you. Which is surprising, I've seen you do some dumb shit but somehow, I still have faith."
And he once watched him fail to make a microwave pizza.
"Well." Minjun looked around the store, one arm around Ten as he eyed up the men guarding them for a moment. "You know, in a way? This is a lot easier than microwave pizza."
Yes, he remembered that incident too. Sometimes easy things were hard! "I mean... I did grow up in this world. I didn't think so much about it at the time, but up until my aunt got pregnant, my uncle did train me to take over."
It was weird to think about it in retrospect. "And these men, they are easy. Someone like Cheon. He's a pig."
"He sounds like one." Well, he'd already heard a few stories. Mostly all rape and murder so yeah, definitely a gross pig. "I think the meetings are going well though, don't you. I mean the one yesterday was great." One of the higher ranked members wanted to vouch for Minjun, desperate to get Cheon out. Word must have been spreading already, the confrontation had to happen soon.
Gyungho was, surprisingly, good at his job. He was securing them so many essential people they needed for this to work.
"As soon as we have the gang, we'll find your baby cousin too." That was the top priority.
"Yeah. There is no word on him. No body either, so that's good." Minjun frowned, shrugging his shoulders. "I think I'm doing okay and you're doing great. We can impress anyone when we try." And they were certainly trying, they had more than enough reason to. "Cheon is feared, not liked, that can work in my favour. Although I'll have to do some things. Show them I mean business too."
He didn't look forward to having to kill or hurt someone, but he didn't think he could avoid it forever. Or even for much longer. "I need to get in contact with the Park gang."
"The guy Gyungho said wasn't doing great? Probably smart. You wouldn't look like a traitor, just someone who's ... showing his respect and wanting to make business. It's all about business and connections." He knew that from watching various mob shows on TV while in New York. Ten smiled at the woman over the counter and took their bag, happily holding it with both hands and bowing. "Thank you."
Now he had a tiara, loads of earrings, a tacky bracelet and a necklace. Score!
"Junnie, he'll know soon so the sooner we get our support sorted, the better. So maybe we get some contact info tomorrow. Gyungho can get that, right?" He seemed very good at getting them whatever they needed. Such a loyal puppy. And if he didn't get it, Yejoon did. "You have such handy friends."
"They are handy," Minjun agreed, laughing as he leaned in to kiss Ten's cheek. "I think... I mean, the Park family are likely the ones who organised the hit on my uncle, so, if anyone knows where my cousin is, they might." At least he was hoping. It was starting to be his last hope.
"I want to have my cousin in safety before the war really starts, you know? Ideally."
"Talk to the boss and ask him straight up. He might deny it but he also might slip up at some point." Seemed like the best way to go about it, especially if he was half as naive as Gyungho claimed he was. He was sure that they could find the baby cousin before the chaos started and then... then they would have to find someone to care for him.
Ten liked kids but he wasn't sure he wanted to be a dad this young. He was only in his early twenties! "Can't be too tricky to find him."
"Yeah... I hope he's all right." Minjun worried his lower lip, then finally gestured at their guards and one of them went ahead to open the door for them. Life was weird, but hey. He could get used to spoiling Ten like this, he definitely knew Ten was enjoying that part. "I really do think we can do it, you know? I'd not actually have brought you along if I didn't believe that we'd make it through. Get to the good parts. When we are done with the worst of it, we get a giant penthouse somewhere. With a jacuzzi. And a pool."
"I believe you, hyung. I think we're going to be fine." He really did. He wasn't sure why but he just believed that Minjun knew what he was doing. "As much as I do want to keep shopping, and I really do, we should worry back to our place. Our temporary place, sans hot tub. To meet more boring old men." It was excessively dull and all they talked about was business and smoked in his nice, clean apartment but hey.
