"I don't yell," Jin said sweetly, while glaring at Jimin, but then also reaching out to pet his hair. "All I know is that he's not good enough for you. Maybe for Joonie." Lower standards, Namjoon was kind of a mess. He still had hopes for his brother.
And whatever else he might have said was interrupted by the doorbell and Tae's immediate reaction of yelling loudly and then running to open the door with such enthusiasm that he skidded along the floor and banged right into it.
"...ow." He rubbed his elbow and looked at Namjoon woefully. Why was life so unfair to him? He was at a disadvantage. However, Agust D was still coming to his Christmas party, so he opened the door to a slightly worried looking Yoongi.
"Are you okay?"
Tae nodded his head and then burst into tears, hugging Yoongi's leg. Too many emotions at once.
Oh God. Of course this was the introduction to a Kim family Christmas. Of course.
Namjoon rushed forward and pried Tae from Yoongi, lifting him up and hushing him. "He just sort of -- flew into the door. He's very excited. And overwhelmed." Clearly. He gestured for Yoongi to come in but it was hard to deal with him and Tae. Luckily. Jimin was on the case and ran over as swift as he could, sliding between Namjoon's legs.
"Hello, Yoongi-hyung!" He bowed before holding his arms out. "May I take your coat?" He might drown under it but he was determined to be polite and lovely.
Namjoon set Tae on the counter and checked his head and his elbow, they were very minor bumps but he assumed it hurt and everything was a little much for him. "We discussed running indoors. There's a reason we don't do it. Kim family curse, kiddo. I tell you all the time." He kissed the top of Tae's head even so. "Would a fun band-aid make it better? Jinnie-hyung always has them."
"Sure?" Yoongi wasn't sure if he could, but he took his jacket off anyway and carefully handed it to Jimin, just to make sure he wouldn't make another little boy cry. He took his shoes off and ran a hand through his hair, feeling quite sheepish. He looked over to Namjoon and Tae, who had calmed down a little, although he nodded at the offer of a band-aid. If he had a cool band-aid, he could show Yoongi and make up for how uncool he had just been.
Yoongi lifted the bags he had with him and Hobi walked over to help him with that. "These are for under the tree, yeah? Whoa, Kookie, look! Yoongi-hyung really knows those elves."
"Hey, Jungkook." Yoongi waved at him and hoped there would be no more tears. Making Tae cry had been a bit of a shock.
"Hello, Yoongi-hyung." Jungkook smiled a little, less shy this time. Every time he met someone, he got better and better. He came over to him and tugged on his pants so he could get him to come down a little, talking quietly to him like he had a secret. "The elves really came and I have presents under the tree. Did you give them tickets?"
He assumed Yoongi had somehow worked his magic and saved Christmas. Seemed like a solid theory.
Jimin could not hang up the coat to save his life so he just hid it behind the coat stand and skipped over, hugging Yoongi's arm while he spoke to Jungkook, getting no shortage of positive kid attention now. "Do you know Santa too?"
"Jin, can I get a bandaid please? We have a patient in urgent need of care." Jin had a brother, he knew how magical bandaids could be if a kid had an accident and Tae was a little fragile right now so it would probably really help. "Then we can go see all the cool presents you guys got." And he could maybe talk to his boyfriend for five seconds. God, kids.
Yoongi ended up just crouching on the floor with one arm around Jungkook and one arm around Jimin, wondering a little how that had happened, but whatever. At least no one was crying. "Yeah, the elves are gonna be there next time I tour in Russia. And maybe they'll bring along Santa... I'm not sure if he likes my music."
Jin found a band-aid quickly, and since it had little doggies on it, Tae approved. He held still so Namjoon could apply it, missing out on how Hobi finished setting all the presents under the tree. Suddenly there were a lot more presents, that much was for sure. Yoongi had sent an assistant to take care of it, but he had carried the bags up himself and he had told them what to get, so he figured it still counted as a good deed.
"Hyung, hyung!" Tae squirmed until he was off the counter, then walked over to Yoongi quickly to show is elbow. "I got ow, but I'm a big boy."
"Really cool band-aid, Tae." Yoongi nodded his approval and Tae beamed. Christmas was saved.
"Okay, let's maybe not all overwhelm Yoongi, yeah? Less people at once." He currently had three kids on him, all holding on in their own way and looking at Suga like the actual Santa. Adorable but he really didn't want Yoongi to be freaked out or anything.
"Then you go away." Jimin suggested helpfully, smiling at Namjoon like an angel. Looking at Yoongi, he beamed even brighter. "Thank you for saving Christmas and getting Jungkookie presents from the elf."
So brave, so strong, his hero.
Namjoon came over and laughed, knowing he could not win right now. "Hey." He nodded his head at Yoongi, smiling a little. "Welcome to our chaos."
"Are you going away?" Hey, Yoongi just wanted to know, mere curiosity. Tae was a bit uncertain whether they were being serious, so he reached out to hold on to Namjoon's pants just in case. He wasn't a baby, but he needed Namjoon for Christmas.
Yoongi smiled at Namjoon, unsure how to get rid of any of these children in order to actually touch his boyfriend. Ah, well. Family Christmas, he supposed that was what he was in for. "It smells really good here."
"That's because of Jin-hyung," Hobi enthused, "He's a big fan of your music!"
"It's okay," Jin said, since he supposed he had to now.
"I have to stand my ground or Jimin will walk all over me." Namjoon decided to free Yoongi by swiftly grabbing Jimin and lifting him upside down, making the boy scream and giggle excitedly. Namjoon carried him over to Hobi and waited for the other to hold him. "Merry Christmas, have my love rival."
"Jinnnnnnnnnnnnn!" Jimin whined as he flailed. "Be nice to my boyfriend. He is the best."
"He's my boyfriend but agreed." Namjoon held his hand out to help Yoongi up and Jungkook clung onto his jacket suddenly, latching on tight and just expecting to be held. Well. Christmas. It was impossible to avoid kids. Especially when a cool new, guy was here. "Me and Tae got you a present, Yoongi. You're gonna love it."
They went out and bought him a hoodie together. It wasn't fancy or expensive but they both liked it and thought Yoongi would look cool in it. Then Tae got him a toilet seat cover... he wasn't sure why but Namjoon wrapped it all up for him. Badly. They couldn't wrap. "It's under the tree."
"It's the ugly one." Jungkook felt the need to point it out.
Hobi wrapped his arms around Jimin to make sure he stayed close, tickling him playfully and figuring he should give the couple a little bit of a chance at least, even if Jungkook looked ever so content being held by Yoongi. "It's so sad, Kookie. It's Christmas and suddenly you don't care about me anymore."
He made as sad a face as he managed, resting his head against Jimin's as he adjusted the kid on his lap.
"I can't wrap either." Rapping, that was one of Yoongi's very, very few skills. "I'm lucky they do it at stores." He finally got to hold Namjoon's hand and so he did, while Tae was back to bouncing.
"I care! I gave you a present." A mysterious present Jungkook kept mentioning all day but still hadn't told Hobi what it was but apparently he already gave it and no amount of asking could help or he'd get upset. So he didn't feel bad for wanting Yoongi. Jungkook was just happy to be held and there was no option to put him down, not even for presents.
Namjoon didn't let it deter him. He leaned in to kiss Yoongi's cheek, smiling a little. "Merry Christmas. I'm so glad you came."
He would have said more but Tae was yelling. They were going to need another volume control discussion. "Okay, presents. Check the labels before you open but go ahead." Jimin wriggled free and took off for presents, so did Tae but Jungkook just set his head on Yoongi's shoulder. Comfy.
"I have a child now," Yoongi told Namjoon, unsure what to do about it. In the end he just kept holding him. Seemed like the best option. "Merry Christmas. Sorry I was late, got busy."
At least he hadn't been all that late.
Jin and Hobi were overseeing the gift opening and mostly making sure everyone opened the right gifts, while Yoongi just walked over carrying Jungkook and holding Namjoon's hand.
"Are you going to open your presents, Kookie? I'll tell the elves if you like them."
"You can open, I'll watch." Jungkook wanted to just stay as he was and he had decided this was exactly how things should be so little would deter him. Namjoon knew well enough not to disturb Kookie too much. He made up his mind and he stuck to it. Unless Yoongi protested, he didn't want to upset the boy.
"Kookie, look at this one, it's yours and it's big!" Jimin pushed it forward excitedly, just happy to help everyone get the right stuff more than open things. Honestly, they all played together, they shared well and all of these would belong between the three of them.
"And this is Tae's." Namjoon passed the boy a big present too, pulling Tae into his lap as he sat down. "Woah, so many presents this year. Santa loves us."
Yoongi sat down and tried to coax Jungkook to sit in his lap, so he could also open gifts, but he wasn't sure whether that would work either. It seemed to be a clingy time. Whatever, he could deal with that. The kid was a cute little toddler.
"Jiminie, so cool!" Tae admired the presents Jimin was getting, almost forgetting about his own but then finally making a move to unwrap the present Namjoon had given him, careful with the paper and then just ripping it when he got impatient. "Whoooooa! It's what I wanted, Joonie-hyung! Look!"
"Yeah, it's a -- a really expensive transformer. Woah." Namjoon was a little shell shocked as he looked it over himself and then got a tiny bit excited too. Well, he adored toys too. "Woah, Optimus Prime. This is so cool!" Namjoon grinned at Yoongi and his clingy new friend, who was slowly half sitting on Yoongi's lap, half clinging.
"Oh! Jinnie! Look, dolly." Jimin presented the doll he got to Jin with a bright smile. Now he had an actual baby, instead of just using Tae! "I'm an appa."
"You think the elves got you good presents?" Yoongi asked Jungkook quietly, to hopefully make him curious enough to open presents, then he focused on Tae instead, who was just staring at the transformer in awe and forgetting that there were other things left to be unpacked.
"Try that one," Yoongi indicated a smaller package with a pretty recognisable wrapping paper, at least for someone as fashionable as Tae.
"Gucci! Namjoon, Gucci!"
"Ohh, you are an appa! You'll have to be so responsible, always taking baths and brushing teeth without arguing." Hey, Jin figured it'd be worth a try. He smiled at Jimin, always happy to see the joy on his face. "Cutest appa!"
"I don't have to, I'm an appa now. I'll make sure my baby does." Jimin smiled at Jin, knowing that he was being awkward and loving it. Even so, he set the doll in his lap and reached out, pushing a present into Jungkook's hand so he didn't miss out. Jimin liked to make sure they all got fun toys and good things!
Jungkook opened it very, very carefully and focused way harder than anyone ever had at opening a present.
"Let's open the expensive Gucci carefully, yeah?" He got his little boy Gucci... woah. Namjoon laughed and looked at Yoongi, gesturing at Tae. "He grows out of things real fast, you know? Kids in Gucci. It's just -- weird."
"I'm wearing Gucci." Jimin informed him happily. And he was. Jin and him loved being fashionable and expensive.
"Well, whatever. You sell it when he's done with it." Yoongi shrugged his shoulders and then made sure to admire Jimin. "You look very fashionable."
He adjusted the gift Jungkook was opening so he would have an easier time, then watched his face to make sure he actually loved the toy bunny. He had told the assistant to pick the cutest, he was sure she'd have done a good job. However, before Jungkook's reaction, Tae was there, loudly whopping and pulling out the jacket jumping up and down excitedly and almost falling over as he tried to put it on at the same time.
"These kids will make us look like garbage," Hobi told Namjoon, then he frowned, sighing. "Actually, only I will! You with your fancy new clothes."
Jungkook looked over the bunny and then slowly looked it over, it had a little pair of overalls on and it's ears were soft and patchworky in places. It felt so nice, he slowly snuggled it close to his chest and set his head on top of it's head, smiling at Yoongi with such happiness. "I like bunny."
Tae's noise didn't disturb him, he was in his own little world now.
Swiftly, Namjoon reached out to stop him from falling down, helping Tae get into his clothes before turning his head to huff out a laugh. "Well, you know, we all at least know your boyfriend is looking good." Because that's where all Hobi's money went these days. "Get a better job, lazy."
"Lazy? Pshh. You dare say that next time you need me to emergency babysit Tae because you have to facetime Agust D right then and there." Hobi shook his head, tsking. "That disrespect."
"We didn't raise him well," Jin agreed, "Namjoon, where are your manners?"
"Look, look, Jiminie, I am gucci now too!" Tae spun so Jimin could admire him properly and Yoongi nodded his approval as he watched him.
"You should wear that when we fly to Japan." Hey, couldn't hurt to make a good impression. He ran his fingers through Jungkook's hair and smiled. "Bunny is your favourite, huh? The elves must have known, I bet Santa remembered."
"Look at you two, you can dish it out but you can never take it. Babies." He balled up some wrapping paper and playfully threw it at Jin, watching it bounce off his head. "My hyungs are so needy." Smiling at them both, he laughed and no, he didn't mean any of it, none of them did. That was why he loved them so much, they had always been so easy and fun to be around, a great contrast to home.
Jungkook tilted his head back, looking up at Yoongi with a small smile. "He did. He knows cause I was a good boy all year round. I try hard to be a good boy."
"And you do a good job." Namjoon assured him, ruffling Kookie's hair. "The rest of us kind of suck at it but we're cute."
"I'm a good boy!" Jimin pouted, looking at Jin. "Aren't I? I'm real good."
"...you are a cute boy. Cute. Sometimes good." That good was very debatable half the time, if Jin was to be honest, but it was Christmas so he just blew his brother a kiss. "You are the best."
Tae spun around a couple more times and then landed on his butt, smiling happily. "I'm a mess." And he didn't really mind that, Namjoon loved him anyway.
"You must be a pretty good boy too, so many presents." Yoongi smiled, definitely overwhelmed, but mostly in a good way. He hadn't had people to properly spend Christmas with in a while.
"So, Yoongi, is it nice to have a Christmas off? I bet you don't normally." Namjoon shuffled a bit closer to Yoongi, just wanting a little bit of time to talk to his bae, even if he had to lean forward and rescue Tae from running into the tree. He set a present in front of Tae and hoped to keep him grounded and focused.
Why couldn't he sit still like Kookie was doing, mesmerised by his new bunny and mouthing names under his breath to try and name the thing? So much simpler.
"Eh, you work hard too. I just do weirder things and get paid more." Yoongi shrugged his shoulders and smiled at Namjoon. "It's nice to have time off. It's nice seeing you."
Tae busied himself with the present and also made sure that Jimin was watching, because things were just better when Jimin paid attention. Simple fact.
"I have to do some events after Christmas too. Hope you get more time off." Yoongi looked at his boyfriend, worrying his lower lip briefly. "Maybe we can arrange for a date again."
"I go back to work on the 27th, which is annoying because Tae is off until the 2nd. Still, it's just my gas station shifts so they're short and only three days out of the four." Pretty good, all things considered. He was pretty thrilled. Smiling at Yoongi, he moved his hand in close and gently stroked the back of Yoongi's hand. "Another date would be really cool."
Or, you know, he could have said it in a less dorky way but whatever, here he was, smiling like a dork and calling a date 'cool' instead of nice or romantic.
"When do we have a date?" Jimin asked, looking away from the present and up at Yoongi. "I'm free after bath time but before bed time and I have weekends off."
"Er... I think I'm usually busy until way past your bedtime, I'm afraid. And especially on weekends." Yoongi rubbed the back of his neck, unsure how to deal with this. "But I'll send you flowers?" Maybe that worked?
"Jiminie likes flowers!" Tae felt it should count, he was all for it. "Yoongi-hyung, can I stay with you when Namjoon-hyung works? I'll be quiet! I can help!"
"My work is a bit boring for kids, you know?" Yoongi turned his head to look at Namjoon for help.
