"Look at you two, you can dish it out but you can never take it. Babies." He balled up some wrapping paper and playfully threw it at Jin, watching it bounce off his head. "My hyungs are so needy." Smiling at them both, he laughed and no, he didn't mean any of it, none of them did. That was why he loved them so much, they had always been so easy and fun to be around, a great contrast to home.
Jungkook tilted his head back, looking up at Yoongi with a small smile. "He did. He knows cause I was a good boy all year round. I try hard to be a good boy."
"And you do a good job." Namjoon assured him, ruffling Kookie's hair. "The rest of us kind of suck at it but we're cute."
"I'm a good boy!" Jimin pouted, looking at Jin. "Aren't I? I'm real good."
"...you are a cute boy. Cute. Sometimes good." That good was very debatable half the time, if Jin was to be honest, but it was Christmas so he just blew his brother a kiss. "You are the best."
Tae spun around a couple more times and then landed on his butt, smiling happily. "I'm a mess." And he didn't really mind that, Namjoon loved him anyway.
"You must be a pretty good boy too, so many presents." Yoongi smiled, definitely overwhelmed, but mostly in a good way. He hadn't had people to properly spend Christmas with in a while.
"So, Yoongi, is it nice to have a Christmas off? I bet you don't normally." Namjoon shuffled a bit closer to Yoongi, just wanting a little bit of time to talk to his bae, even if he had to lean forward and rescue Tae from running into the tree. He set a present in front of Tae and hoped to keep him grounded and focused.
Why couldn't he sit still like Kookie was doing, mesmerised by his new bunny and mouthing names under his breath to try and name the thing? So much simpler.
"Eh, you work hard too. I just do weirder things and get paid more." Yoongi shrugged his shoulders and smiled at Namjoon. "It's nice to have time off. It's nice seeing you."
Tae busied himself with the present and also made sure that Jimin was watching, because things were just better when Jimin paid attention. Simple fact.
"I have to do some events after Christmas too. Hope you get more time off." Yoongi looked at his boyfriend, worrying his lower lip briefly. "Maybe we can arrange for a date again."
"I go back to work on the 27th, which is annoying because Tae is off until the 2nd. Still, it's just my gas station shifts so they're short and only three days out of the four." Pretty good, all things considered. He was pretty thrilled. Smiling at Yoongi, he moved his hand in close and gently stroked the back of Yoongi's hand. "Another date would be really cool."
Or, you know, he could have said it in a less dorky way but whatever, here he was, smiling like a dork and calling a date 'cool' instead of nice or romantic.
"When do we have a date?" Jimin asked, looking away from the present and up at Yoongi. "I'm free after bath time but before bed time and I have weekends off."
"Er... I think I'm usually busy until way past your bedtime, I'm afraid. And especially on weekends." Yoongi rubbed the back of his neck, unsure how to deal with this. "But I'll send you flowers?" Maybe that worked?
"Jiminie likes flowers!" Tae felt it should count, he was all for it. "Yoongi-hyung, can I stay with you when Namjoon-hyung works? I'll be quiet! I can help!"
"My work is a bit boring for kids, you know?" Yoongi turned his head to look at Namjoon for help.
Oh boy, these kids were good at overwhelming adults. "TaeTae, I already asked, you can come with me. My work is fun. We can be back stage." He leaned in subtly and whispered into Tae's wear. "Rumour has it that TOP will be back stage and we might run into him at some point. How cool, yeah?" He just needed to get Tae onto team Namjoon and work with him, not Yoongi.
He couldn't do that to Yoongi, it wasn't possible. "Yoongi is super busy."
"Too busy to take me on a date?" Jimin pouted up at Yoongi and hugged himself. "Is it because I'm ugly?" Oh God. Namjoon turned his head and gave Jin a panicked look because if Jimin started crying, the end would come and Yoongi would definitely leave.
"No, he just has to send you flowers first. And chocolates. That's how it works with proper dating." Jin bent down to wrap his arms around Jimin, hugging him close. "You are not ugly, Jiminie. Worldwide handsome like your brother!"
"It's true, Jimin, you are very handsome." Yoongi offered a smile, very unsure how to proceed with anything here, although at least Tae seemed happy at the rumoured run-in, which he took to be a guarantee.
"How about that rap contest, huh?" Hobi figured a change of topic might help. "Do the contestants get some prep time or should we go right into it? Do we do food first?"
Jimin was intent on clinging to Jin and nursing his broken heart, debating if the sent gifts were good or not but overall, the chaos was not as bad as Namjoon expected. Jungkook reached out and petted Yoongi's face before sliding free, dragging his bunny along with him. "I'm already prepared. I'm always prepared."
Such a serious little boy. Especially when it came to rap.
Namjoon playfully took off his cap and placed it on Tae's head, adjusting it a little. "You go out there and you make me proud, yeah? High five!" He held his head up, knowing that Tae would not. Poor boy, he just could not rap.
"Yes! I'm wack!" Or whatever. Either way, he gave an enthusiastic high-five and then took Jungkook's hand so they could walk over to the rug that usually functioned as their stage together. Even if it was a contest, whatever. "Jiminie! Come ooooon!"
Yoongi shifted so he could lean his head against Namjoon's shoulder, wondering how in the world one judged a children's rap contest without making everyone cry.
"Now, shall we start with the oldest or the youngest?" Hobi walked over, already looking through his playlist.
"Okay, so, the key to not fucking this up is to tell all of them they won and then encourage them to pick a winner and pick whoever they want." Namjoon whispered to him, wrapping an arm around him. "Usually we all pick Kookie but Tae might get sensitive this year so I got this, it's okay."
Tae really, really wanted Yoongi's love and approval. He just hoped that beat out harmony and peace during the contest. "Oldest first."
Jimin blushed and shook his head, hiding behind Tae. Yoongi was watching and Jimin couldn't rap. He didn't know how to! "I-- I don't wanna."
"You don't have to do it if you don't wanna. You can also go last if you want."
Jimin did sing and he sang very happily, he may have started off nervous but he ended up singing very sweetly and swaying back and forth. He smiled at the end and bowed, loudly cheered by both tiny boys. Namjoon clapped too, whistling and cheering for him. Well, they all like to support each other.
"Now my boy Tae is gonna rock the mic."
He gave him a thumbs up. "Show Yoongi how well Kims can rap." Tilting his head back, he lowered his voice and spoke apologetically. "I'm so sorry for this."
"I wish underground battles were more like this." Everyone was in a good mood, for one thing, huge difference there. Yoongi gave Tae a thumb up and tried to brace himself. He had gotten small tastes of his rapping before, after all.
And Tae insisted on picking one of Yoongi's raps and so he ended up mostly making up words, especially at the faster parts, and still not keeping up with the tempo, but hey. The enthusiasm was there the whole way.
"Woo! So good, TaeTae!" Yoongi had to hide his face against Namjoon's chest, because he couldn't help the laughing.
"Woo! Tae!" Namjoon laughed and he could feel Yoongi dying behind him. He clapped along excitedly and then leaned back, kissed Yoongi on the cheek and got up. Whatever. When Kim bros made asses out of themselves, they did it as a mean. Namjoon got up there and gave his bro a fist bump before being his hype man.
He filled in the blanks for Tae as best he could without upstaging him, dancing badly behind him and trying to hype up the 'crowd'. Well, you know, Hobi and Jin were definitely hyped so he was winning.
When it ended, he lifted Tae up and set him on his shoulders. "Rapmaster TaeTae is done."
"Yaaaay!" Tae beamed, very happy to be carried. "I can be on stage with Agust D!" He had decided. Although he supposed they might still talk him out of it, but he felt he could put on a good show. One day!
"Think you're too young for a contract," Yoongi told him regretfully, leaning back on his hands and turning his head to look at Jungkook. "What about you? You are always ready!"
"The one and only Kookie!" Hobi was ready to hype his young charge up.
"You're so good, Tae." Jungkook didn't know if he was or not, he didn't think so but he knew that today was important because of how much he loved Yoongi and Yoongi loved Namjoon. He hoped Tae got to win. He came to the front and pulled up his hood, getting all hyped up and then doing what perhaps Tae should have done.
Picking an Agust D song that he could keep up with. Not that he could pronounce everything right but he sounded adorable, he did a good Suga impression and he didn't fall on his butt this year.
Namjoon leaned back against Yoongi and beamed. "Ahhh, so cute. I can't!"
"He's adorable," Yoongi agreed, while Tae was torn between being happy for Jungkook - and hyped as well - and worrying whether Yoongi might like Jungkook better. If he did, would Jungkook get to go to Japan? Or would Yoongi break up with Namjoon and maybe date Hobi instead? All very serious worries.
"You are all so good," Yoongi said after Jungkook had finished, clapping for them all. "Everyone is a winner!"
"Tae was the best this year!" Jungkook said swiftly as he bounced up and down, trying to get their attention. He was panicking a little because he didn't want to win. For the first time ever in his life. He pointed at Tae instead and hoped that Yoongi said that next cause it was important. "He's really good, he can be on stage with you."
"He is! He's so talented. He was a tree at my last recital and he was so cool." Jimin added, coming over to Hug Tae and give him some support.
Namjoon nudged Yoongi a little. Like he said, the kids always picked a winner. That made it so easy for them. "Who did the best, Yoongi?"
"Tae was the best," Yoongi decided to just agree, hoping no one would start crying. Tae didn't cry - yet - but he just smiled and couldn't think of words and ended up just hugging both Jimin and Jungkook and telling them both that they were the best. Such a fragile group of friends.
Yoongi turned his head to look at Namjoon. "...he was a tree?"
"There's a loooong video of it," Jin said in a very unimpressed voice.
"Look, I'm sorry, okay? I was moved by it. Moved. He was profound." Namjoon protested, glaring back at Jin. "I'll show you later." And that would be a video no one would want to watch but Namjoon but whatever, he was good at ruining everything.
With the rap over, Namjoon came over and picked up Tae, nuzzling him a little. "He was so impressed. We're great. We should be a proper rap duo. Maybe a trio, we can ask Agust D to collab with us."
Jimin hurried over to Jin and flopped all over him. "Hyuuuuuuuuuung, I'm so hungry."
"I did tell you that we should record you at the studio some time." Although he only thought Namjoon had actual potential, but whatever. Yoongi got to his feet and looked at Jin, who was apparently in charge of food. "Can I help with anything?"
"Sure. You can set the table." Jin gestured to the table and Yoongi simply walked off to do it, while Hobi whispered to Jin.
"You can't just make a star set your dinner table!"
Namjoon set Tae down to go and wash his hands, making sure that Jimin and Tae would help Jungkook wash his before he joined Yoongi and started to help him. Or hinder him. Honestly, it was debatable. He was slowly placing down the knives and forks when the door knocked really loudly and Namjoon frowned, turning his head.
"Everyone I know is here..." For some odd reason, Namjoon looked up, as if he was debating who it could be instead of answering the door.
Whoever was outside was singing Christmas songs... slutty Christmas songs. But boy, what an angelic voice.
"Oh my God, why is he here?" Hobi got up and headed for the door, opening it to repeat the same question to his kind of boyfriend's face. "Oh my God, why are you here?"
"TEN!" Tae bounced and then hurried to get to the door, once more sliding but this time connecting with Ten's legs, which was softer than the door. He held on to him and beamed. "I won the rap contest!"
"Ah... I remember you mentioning him." Yoongi kept his voice low, watching the scene curiously.
"Oh God, not him." Namjoon almost faceplanted the table. His little boy was touching that fuckboy, what was he going to do?
"I got a phone call today from Santa's elf, sounded a lot like a certain toddler you know. He said I have to come, not be mean and be really, really nice and celebrate Christmas with you." Ten explained as he crouched down to smile at Tae. "You did? Little badass." Yeah, maybe he shouldn't use that word around kids. Whatever. "And look at you, all fashionable. You're fierce, you're killing it."
Tilting his head back, Ten looked up at Hobi with a smirk. "By the way, he butt-dialled me by accident and left a forty minute long message in my inbox so ... you may not have minutes."
Jimin came running out, Jungkook behind them, all of them rushing to Ten. For some reason. "TEN! Did you get us anything?! Ten! What did we get?"
no subject
Jungkook tilted his head back, looking up at Yoongi with a small smile. "He did. He knows cause I was a good boy all year round. I try hard to be a good boy."

Yoongi felt less unsure now, so he focused on finally getting to be close to Namjoon. It had been a while.
