"I don't know." Jin thought about it as he finished the first egg and put it on a plate, then got started on the second one. "According to their blood work, they are both clean." So at least they likely wouldn't spend money on drugs. Hopefully. "Honestly, I think that Hobi and Yoongi would use an allowance to buy stuff for the younger kids."
And that thought alone was making him melt. These kids would be the end of him. "Maybe you can take them to buy toys? If you have time today. Hobi and Yoongi will know what the others like. And I can clean up a bit and they can draw. Maybe I can get some studying done."
"Okay, we can do that. The boss gave me carer leave so I got about two weeks off now, I can do some stuff, set them up on a routine and then when I go back, it might be easier." Might. He wasn't going to get cocky over it. He heard movement from the bedroom and slowly, Jimin stumbled out, yawning and holding his bear. He came home not long after the other boys to recover here and while he was still pale and weak, he was improving a lot.
"I'm awake, Appa-hyung." Jimin informed Jin as he stumbled along, dragging his bear and rubbing his eyes. Of course he was, he always woke up first. Coming over, he needily hugged Jin's leg and Namjoon had to laugh.
"Oh yeah. It will go great." Jin said it drily, but then he bent to pick up Jimin and set him on the counter - away from the stove so there'd not be anything splattering on him. He put the teddy on Jimin's lap and smiled at him, opening the fridge to produce a juice box. "Can you drink that for me?"
He had to make sure Jimin wouldn't get dehydrated. The kids had a tendency not to drink enough, which made a lot of sense, given their previous toilet set-up. "Did you sleep well, Jiminie? Or did your hyungs keep you up?"
"No, they were asleep too." Jimin lied because he knew it was important. They did but they were making money so Jimin never told them. And whenever it was too loud, he got out of bed and just lay on Yoongi until he shut up. He shrugged and then grinned up at Jin, taking the juice and singing a special juice song in between sips. "I have the best hyungs."
"Oh yeah, for real." God damn, these kids were such a little unit. Namjoon shrugged, he had no idea what the answer was to this mess. Clearly they needed a contract meeting again.
"I still have a tummy ache." Jimin told Jin as he petted his own tummy. "When will it go?" He didn't like it. "Can you kiss it better?"
"Tell you what, Jiminie. After breakfast, doctor-hyung is going to make you a hot water bottle and then you and TaeTae and Kookie can make a nice cave on the living room couch and watch a fun movie." Seemed like a good offer. Jin bent down to kiss Jimin's tummy before he started on the next egg. "It's just your meds, they are upsetting your body a little, but they also helped a lot, yes? It will feel better soon. You have to keep eating and drinking properly, that helps."
Maybe he could find a good food to relieve the pain a little, but mostly he wasn't too worried. He would feel better soon. "Do you want to go and wake up the others?"
"Yes! Let's watch Nemo! I wanna watch Nemo!" Jimin declared, having sound the netflix account Jin had the other day and all the tempting, cute movies. He and Tae had a list. He wriggled on the counter and nodded. "Down!" Namjoon came over and set Jimin down, letting him run off into the bedroom.
"Antibiotics still in his system, huh? Those things can make you feel gross. When I'm on them, I don't have half the energy that kid does." Then again, kids were weird. They'd run around excited and then suddenly drop down and start crying. "Hopefully while they watch the movie, you can study."
In the room room. Jimin leapt onto Tae's bed and then crawled through it, pretty much jumping onto Hobi. "Wake up! Wake up! Time to wake up!" He climbed onto the ladder like an excited monkey and stopped at the top, hitting Yoongi. "Up! Up!"
"I'll make them a kid friendly netflix account today and then they can go wild on it for a bit, I guess. I don't want them to watch too much television, but as long as they can also draw and since you are buying toys... Just make sure to get some educational things too." Jin frowned, then laughed, shaking his head. "Look who I'm talking to. As if you wouldn't. I don't know, get them a toy keyboard or something."
They seemed to love music, judging by how much they liked dancing to it, so that seemed like a good idea.
Hobi sat up with a loud yawn and Yoongi opened his eyes, then pulled Jimin down and held him with one arm. Seemed like the best way to get a few more seconds of lying down. "You're feeling better, huh?"
"Yeah, come on, you're talking to the king of nerds here. What do you think will happen? They're gonna get books and maybe some cool science toys. And definitely music stuff." He grinned excitedly, already working on his mental list. "We won't spoil them every day but for now, they deserve it. I was looking into their options and God, it's driving me crazy."
He had found one care home that wouldn't take Hobi and Yoongi, one that wanted Jungkook in a different place because of his age and one foster family that wanted just Jungkook. No one else. They always wanted the youngest.
"I have a tummy ache but that's okay cause doctor appa kissed it better." Jimin explained as he curled up next to Yoongi and petted his cheek. "Are you sleepy, hyung? You were up so, so late. That's bad for you."
"Not easy, is it? I can see why, but... They won't take well to being separated." Jungkook still didn't talk directly to either of them and hardly ever at all in front of them. Only with Yoongi he sometimes saw Jungkook chatting away. And they wanted to just rip him from his family? Or any of the others, for that matter. "We'll... We'll see."
Jin laughed a little. "I want to just keep them. It's silly, I know."
"Hmm. We gotta make money, Jiminie. This won't last forever, they don't want us for long." Yoongi felt it important to remind him of that, even if he knew it would make him sad. This was a very temporary situation and him and Hobi had to plan ahead. They'd need money, no matter what happened next. "You think you can wake up TaeTae?"
"Nah, I know what you mean. Sometimes I forget we need to find them homes but... I mean, we can't. You're so busy and I am too. We've never get anything done and our poor boys would suffer. They deserve a good life with a good family." And he wanted to be that, he did, but they didn't have the time. He'd keep them until he could find somewhere else to put them, somewhere safe so they could stay together. "We just have to keep them as a set."
Somehow. It wasn't easy. They all wanted the youngest one and no one wanted the problem older boys.
"Nuh-uh, they'll keep us. Jin likes me a lot so... he's gonna wanna keep me." Jimin pouted as he looked at Yoongi, suddenly nervous and worried. He knew they'd get rid of them but maybe, just maybe, they'd be kept. Crawling off the bed, he slid down the ladder and padded over to Tae's bed, curling up on top of him. "Wake upppppp."
"It's a problem. If I hear one of my mother's friends tell me again that Hobi or any of them isn't "cute enough", I'll have to go and punch someone and I really want to avoid that. They all want Tae and Jimin, until they hear the story, then some actually don't want them? Like it's Tae's fault that his father--"
Jin stopped himself and sighed, turning off the stove and stepping over to hug Namjoon. "It's very stressful. I wish we had more time."
"Maybe they'll keep you." Yoongi figured there was a chance of that. Tae and Jimin, they'd some mutual attachment going. He got off the bed and walked over to shake Jungkook, in the hopes that he'd wake up, while Tae hid under his blanket and shook his head.
"I wish I could be surprised but I've seen it. I remember after I got away from my dad, I was this close to a couple taking me in... then another kid, a younger kid, he came in and that's the one they wanted. People want cute and easy. No problems, no baggage. Jimin and Tae are complicated. They have emotional issues and they have tantrums. No one wants that and it's not cute unless you're Kookie's age."
Sighing, he reached out and pulled Jin in close, hating that he had to see this side of the world. "I think Hobi is adorable. Such a little shit but he's cute." Just saying.
"TaeTae, there's breakfast and Namjoonie is here today." He wasn't at breakfast yesterday but he was today, it was exciting. Both hyungs here. "Get uppp."
Jungkook, meanwhile, rolled away from Yoongi and further against the wall, making a sharp whining noise. No. He didn't wanna. He was feeling fussy today.
"Hobi is adorable. Always joking around. He's over the top, but he's funny. He smiles and laughs so much." And around him, even Yoongi smiled and laughed a lot more than usual, when Jin had noticed that he mostly just smiled when he was deliberately being a little shit. "But it looks like him and Yoongi will be the hardest to find a home for."
"Namjoon-hyung is here?" Tae did sit up for that, yawning and then grinning at Jimin. "I need to show him all the drawings I made!" He had to explain them to him and have them be admired properly. Tae got up and reached for Jimin's hand, suddenly very motivated.
"What's for breakfast, Jiminie?" Hey, Hobi was hungry. Sleepy, but hungry.
And Yoongi petted Jungkook's hair. "Get up, please. Hyung will feed you breakfast, yeah?"
"He is so cute. They all are. You know. Yoongi acts like a little badass but he's so precious with Kookie and damn, did you see his face when that commercial for Kumamon came on? You can't tell me he's not still a kid." Yet people tried. Worst came to worst, Namjoon had already decided that he'd find a way to keep Yoongi and Hobi close. They needed love - Tae, Jimin and Kookie could find it at their age but those two? Less chance.
"So much! Jin hyung cooked eggs and pancakes and all kinds of stuff. It's so tasty looking. There's also juice." Jimin hurried along as Tae gathered his drawings, letting himself be led around as he spoke to his hyung.
Jungkook whined again and flailed his hand to bat Yoongi away. He was not feeling like co-operating today. "No." Today was the dreaded no day. Jungkook had days, when things were feeling off to him, that he'd just say no to everything.
"...go ahead." Yoongi said it to Hobi, who nodded and herded the two younger kids out of the room, walking into the kitchen. "It smells so good! Jin-hyung, you are the best! I want to marry you too."
"Nuh-uh, I'm next!" Tae figured he'd get his turn when Namjoon was done, that seemed fair. He let go of Jimin to throw himself at Namjoon's legs and hold up the drawings to him. "Hyung, you have to see! I drewed all the best stuff and it's really important. Research!"
He was learning all kinds of new words.
"Jungkook doesn't want to today," Hobi explained, "Yoongi will work on it." Whatever that meant.
"No one is gonna marry Jin, he's mine!" Namjoon grinned as he lifted up Tae and set him on his lap, clearing some space for all of his drawings. "Oh, woah! So talented, Tae. You did all this yourself? Such a little researcher. Gonna be smarter than me soon." It was nice to praise these boys, they never got any of it.
Jimin held onto Jin's shirt and tugged it insistently. "Did you see the bears?"
Everything was shaped like bears and he felt the need to show Hobi. Just in case he didn't see. "They're cute, aren't they?"
"What's up with Kookie? Can we help?" Namjoon looked up from Tae's frankly bizarre drawings, frowning at Hobi.
"I dunno. He just has a no day. And when he says no to Suga-hyung, it's a big no day." Usually Jungkook respected authority a lot and, more specifically, basically lived and died by Yoongi's word, so it was always a sign of him being especially fussy when he was even being difficult with him. "It happens sometimes. And, yes, Jiminie! The bears are so cute, like Min Teddy."
Jin smiled and put Jimin on his lap as he sat down next to Namjoon, starting to dish out breakfast for everyone. "I should get more shapes like this, shouldn't I? What other animals do I get?"
"I like hearts!" Tae grinned widely. "And tigers." Basically the same thing.
"Maybe we could also get aliens. And crabs for me, I love crabs. You never made me crab cookies any more." Namjoon pouted at him as he held Tae close and helped the boy with his utensils, making sure he had a good grasp of it. They were behind their peers in so many little ways but Namjoon was determined to help them play catch up.
"Kookie loves bunnies! When he has a no day then we used to use this cute bunny we had to make him be yes! And he was so soft and cute but Kookie lost him at the bus station." And they couldn't find the stuffed bunny anywhere. He'd never seen Jungkook cry so hard over something and, unfortunately, they had no money to replace it.
"We'll have to get him a new bunny then."
Namjoon looked at Jin, clearly concerned. These poor boys. "We'll get Tae a tiger too."
"And I'll make some bunny cookies." That wouldn't be too much of a challenge with some icing and if it could make Jungkook happy, that was very well worth it. "Hobi, you should go with Namjoon today, he wants to pick out some stuff for you."
"What stuff?" Hobi was eager to find out, even as he also managed to focus on eating. Well, it was always great, getting to eat until he was full. He was so not used to it yet. Tae was getting more used to it, but he still ate as properly as he could, even if fingers were much easier than chopsticks. He wanted to be a big boy.
"Stuff for these little mites and some stuff for you. You should get some new clothes, yeah? Maybe sneakers. And something fun. Maybe like a mp3 player or something." He shrugged his shoulders, not sure what Hobi liked but he had a feeling it was what every boy his age liked. Shoes, clothes and music. "Me, you and Yoongi can go out and get the boys something fun. Some toys."
"We get toys?" Jimin didn't understand, he tilted his head to the side and he didn't want to be a bother, he wanted to be cheap. Easy. Yoongi said that grown ups like easy kids. He looked at Jin with wide eyes. "I have Min Teddy, it's okay. I don't cost a lot." There. Sold himself as an ideal son. "I can also be really, really quiet!"
"Okay! I'll tell Suga-hyung... He won't wanna leave Jungkook, but it will be okay." Hobi really wanted to get all the things Namjoon was promising. His boyfriend would love it! He really had to try and find Ten, next time they left them alone at night. "I know what all the boys like, so I'll be useful."
"I wanna go with you, Joonie-hyung." Tae didn't understand why he didn't get to. "Why can't I?"
Meanwhile Jin was dealing with the other crisis. "I'm sure you can be." Jin smiled and ran his fingers through Jimin's hair. "But we want to give you some gifts, to make you happy. Wouldn't you like to have more to play with?"
"Because the older boys need some alone time and one of us has to take them. Jin hyung is very busy so you have to be a good boy for him." Oh, Tae. This was not his first time being a little too clingy but Namjoon was patient, trying his best to ease him. "Try talking to Yoongi and if not, we can find some other way. I'm sure Kookie will come around."
Hopefully. Maybe. Boy, these kids were difficult.
"Yeah but I'm cheap. I'm easy! I'm a good boy so you would --" Would find him a good child and maybe have him forever and ever. And then he wouldn't have to go back to the cold and be sick again. "I'll buy you something." He had no money but he could get some. He hugged Jin hyung, tight and needy. "What do you like?"
"He'll be fine, he's probably just upset because things are changing. He's never good with that." Hobi shrugged, unsure how else to explain it. "But he will feel so much better once I have an mp3 player." Clearly.
Tae held on to Namjoon's shirt, but at least didn't ask to stay with him any more. "Are you going to miss me when you're gone, Joonie-hyung? You will, yeah?"
"I like seeing you and the others happy," Jin offered, not sure what else to say. "Make sure to get me that rabbit shape, so I can make things Jungkook will like a lot." He really wanted to make the youngest smile the way he'd seen sometimes when he interacted with the others. Just never with him and Namjoon.
"Oh yeah, he'll be thrilled." Namjoon had to laugh. He really did like Hobi, he made him laugh. Reaching out, he ruffled the boy's hair and grinned. "You really are my angel." Someone who made him laugh when he was this stressed. He felt Tae tug at his shirt and reached down to gently ease the tugging before he ruined another shirt. He was good at pulling the buttons off. "I'll miss you the whole time."
With a sigh, he reached out and pulled Tae in close, cupping the back of his head. "Do you want some Joonie and TaeTae alone time tonight? We can read a story together and draw."
"Kookie will love you if you give him rabbit things. He loves bunnies. He is a bunny. He has two front teeth, it's so cute." Jimin made a nibbling motion, doing his best bunny impression.
Hobi beamed, honestly happy over the compliment. Usually people outside their group were more likely to call him annoying. He felt his heart beat a bit faster and caught himself. No getting attached. He was smarter than that. "I'll go shower, hyung." So he'd be ready to leave.
"Yes! I want Joonie time. We can have research." Tae was just happy to have learned a new word - namely 'research' - and he put it in whenever he thought was nice. "The best time."
"Then maybe you and TaeTae can help me make little bunny treats for him before you go watch your movie?" Seemed like a good idea. He was already thinking that he could maybe make him a little bunny themed breakfast with some ingenuity, so his no-day would end a little sooner. Especially since, at this rate, Yoongi wasn't going to get any breakfast either.
He frowned and got up, carrying Jimin with him. "Do you want to watch me make bunny rice balls? It's easy."
