"Jeon Hyun-Ae." Jungkook informed him with a smile as he did a little dance where he stood, squealing excitedly as he climbed up a chair so he didn't get wet while Yoongi mopped. "I have an appa! This means I won't be all alone. We can be together, hy-- appa. And I'll help you and you'll help me so we won't be lonely or sad."
And soon he'd get Dooly back and they'd be a whole family. He continued to clean the table, singing to himself as he did, By the time Namjoon came back, holding a boy in his arms, he looked around in awe. "Damn... you really cleaned. Man. I can see my face in the floor. Can you see yours, TaeTae?"
Namjoon tilted Tae playfully towards the floor, pretending to drop him.
"YES! Whoooah, hyung, look how clean things can be!" Tae only giggled at Namjoon pretending to drop, clearly not actually worried. He smiled at Jungkook, waving eagerly. "I watched your Dooly getting surgery! He was really brave and I held his hand so he wouldn't be scared. Now he's getting all clean!"
He had been very fascinated by the whole process.
"I'm good at cleaning." Yoongi looked around, fairly happy at how it looked now. The soup was smelling good now, so hey. He had done something productive today. And he might be about to do something really stupid. Yoongi looked at Namjoon, taking a deep breath. "Can we talk?"
"Oh, Tae, do you want to show Jungkookie where Dooly is? I bet he wants to see him already." He set Tae on the floor and went over to help Jungkook off the chair, making sure Tae was holding his hand tight. Jungkook smiled shyly and waved, nervous and unsure, giving Yoongi timid looks. He hoped his hyung would still be here when he came back. "Don't let go to Jungkook's hand, he's still little so go be a really good hyung and show him where Dooly is taking a bath. I'm sure Ji-eun will help you get him out to dry."
Ruffling Tae's hair, he adjusted his shirt for him so it was less wonky and gave Tae a thumbs up.
He looked at Yoongi, unsure where this was going but he needed to talk to Yoongi anyway. He wasn't sure where the boy had been found and he needed details if he was calling the cops. "What's up, hyung?"
"So." Yoongi had watched Jungkook walk away with Tae, to make sure that Tae was being a good hyung. He seemed to be, excitedly chattering away about how Dooly had been given an injection to be in less pain and overall seeming very excited that he got to be a big hyung, the way Namjoon had told him to be.
But now he had to talk to Namjoon and Yoongi took a deep breath, running a hand through his hair. "Turns out that when I was in my more partying wild phase, some years ago, I got really drunk and had sex with Jungkook's mother."
"... You said you were gay." So why did he fuck a woman? Namjoon stared at Yoongi for a long time, not sure how to respond to this sudden confession. "You said... you said you randomly found him. And he's like four, right?" This seemed off. Was he overthinking it? He was definitely overthinking it. Welcome to Namjoon. "You would have been -- 17?" Oh boy. That was definitely illegal.
He raised an eyebrow and then looked back to where Tae and Jungkook had disappeared. Hmm. He kind of wished he'd gone with them, it'd be a lot less confusing. "A gay 17 year old had a baby with a women he forgot until just now?"
"Well. I didn't tell her that I was seventeen. Or gay." Obviously. Yoongi wasn't sure whether Namjoon not instantly catching on to the very obvious ruse here was a good thing of a bad thing. "All I'm saying is that I'm Jungkook's real father. Or I could be, anyway. Can't afford a test, but hey."
He shrugged. "So you don't have to call the cops. I'll just... Figure out what to do. With my son. I'll get a job." Somehow. Maybe he could at least get clean clothes first. "I'm good at cleaning and cooking, so. I can get a job."
"Uh-huh. This is quite the u-turn." Namjoon couldn't say that he was upset over it but he nodded his head, just letting it sink in. He looked around the kitchen before looking back up at Yoongi. "We're ridiculously short staffed here. Want a job?" He could probably get him one, if he passed the interview. He could just ask the manager, she was in today and she always complained about the place being dirty. The cleaning service they hired never turned up half the time.
"You, uh, you can be paid for today. Maybe. Even if you don't get a job, I think you and your son need a hotel for the night." It was raining out, there was no way they were sleeping outside.
"...seriously?! Yes. Yes, I want that." Because he didn't want to have to spend another night having to worry about Jungkook trembling against him. Maybe if he got some money, they could get a room somewhere. He could get clean, so could Jungkook, and they could use those shampoo things they got for free at hotels to wash their clothes. That would be a good start, depending on how much money he could get out of it.
Yoongi frowned, suddenly feeling taken aback when he realised that the first thing he thought about was how to spend the money to help Jungkook rather than how to buy the most booze. Interesting.
"Good, I'll set something up for you. We can talk to the manager tonight when everything is closed. We're a bit busy right now." He had a lot of kids wanting his attention. Including his brother, who was very independent but had to come back often so show him things he'd found or done. "I'm glad that you are doing this... I mean, it's not easy but it's better than feeling like shit all the time, huh?"
He wasn't judging, he knew that feeling. "I learned that too." He smiled and got out a piece of paper from his pocket and scribbled down his phone number. "You can always call me, you know? If you need help with Jungkookie."
Yoongi nodded his head, almost offering Namjoon help with the kids. But that seemed like a lot. He wasn't good around people, he had already had a breakdown today. But cleaning a kitchen, he could do that. He reached out for the piece of paper, biting down on his lower lip.
"...listen. If I'm supposed to talk to a manager today, I... I don't look like I can clean well, you know?" He knew he was dirty and smelled like it too. "Is there anywhere I could wash?"
"Uhh... yes, sure." Namjoon gestured for Yoongi to follow him and out they went, into the chaos. Kids were playing, screaming, fighting, running around. Several tiny girls were already trying to show Namjoon their drawings as he led Yoongi swiftly through the sea of people. "Those are pretty, girls. I'll come back and see them properly." He smiled kindly and then ushered Yoongi upstairs. Above them was a gym some people liked to use and, of course, it came with showers.
Namjoon ran his pass through so Yoongi could get in without paying. "If you want to wash your clothes too, you can do that. We have a washing machine downstairs. We always have to wash stuff, kids make a mess. I wash all my stuff here, I'm too lazy to buy a washing machine." Namjoon smiled sheepishly as he stopped by the showers. "I hope you don't mind showering with other dudes but it's pretty quiet right now. Week days usually are."
"No, I don't mind." Right now he basically minded anyone being around him. His biggest problem right now was that the washing machine was downstairs and the showers up here, but Yoongi had already spotted a shampoo bottle someone had left behind and he decided that he could use that to temporarily wash his clothes a little. He'd just have to wear wet clothes until they dried, hopefully in time for that interview. And then, eventually down the line, he could have two sets of clothes. First Jungkook needed one.
His son should always come first. "This is great, thanks. Listen, I'm... I can be better than this. I can take care of Jungkook."
"I know you can, hyung. I know." Namjoon had always adored and idolised Yoongi when he was in middle school and Yoongi was a cool senior. He played piano, he seemed so carefree and dismissive and he'd actually given a shit when Namjoon hurt himself. He still remembered that. He blushed so hard on the way home thinking about it that he walked into another lamp post. "I'll bring you up some spare clothes, we keep some stashed in case of accident - you can use my spares but they may be a little big. Hopefully your clothes can be dried quick."
Namjoon bowed low to Yoongi and then looked up, smiling at him. "You'll do fine, hyung."
"I'll do my best." Which he didn't know would be good enough. Still, he could try.
Yoongi undressed once Namjoon was gone, making sure his memories were safe in his pockets. He could transfer things before he put them into the washing machine. For now he focused on finally showering, finally getting clean. It had been a while, he didn't even know how long. Yoongi ended up with a towel wrapped around his waist, staring at himself in the mirror.
The blond had almost grown out of his hair - he really needed a haircut - and he was thin. Still some muscle, luckily he had been in pretty good shape when it all happened, but the malnutrition was obvious. He pulled a face, really not happy with what he was seeing. Jungkook could be happy they weren't actually related.
Namjoon left some clothes out for him with his name written on a piece of paper just on top of them. He was downstairs, waiting for him, readying the washing machine after hanging Dooly up to dry. He sat downstairs, Tae in his lap and Jungkook on the floor, eating some snacks he'd been handed.
He was reading to the two boys, hoping to keep them cool and calm for when Yoongi came back.
"Here, this is the best." TaeTae fed Jungkook a tiny brezel, cause he did honestly think those tasted the best and he didn't want him missing out, other than that he mostly focused on the story, leaning back to better listen.
Yoongi walked into the room carrying his old clothes and wearing clothes that didn't fit him that well, but hey. Oversized was cool. He had combed his hair as best he could with his hands and then used the blow-dryer, so it looked better than it had in a long time.
"Hey, Jungkookie. Did you miss appa?" Might as well get him used to the appa thing.
"Ohhh, you look cool now!" Tae was easily impressed, in this case by the dual-coloured hair. His hyung looked boring by comparison.
Jungkook gasped and jumped up, beaming at Yoongi. "You look like a proper appa, appa. You're all clean and you smell nice!" He was very proud of his appa. He hugged his leg and giggled a little, dropping back on his butt so he could smile at Tae. "He's a cool appa. He's going to cuddle me by the Chinese place."
"... What?" Was Namjoon missing something? He frowned and then shook his head, dismissing it. "Yoongi-hyung, the washing machine is in that room, over there. Use as much fabric softener as you like and there's a dry cycle that'll speed along drying." He gave Yoongi a thumbs up.
"Your clothes will be all shiny and new. Like Dooly is!"
Yoongi nodded and ruffled Jungkook's hair. "Appa will try to find us a better place to cuddle. With a roof." Well, he would try. Maybe, if he could actually get money here today. If he could actually get the job. Maybe even if he didn't, Namjoon would allow them to spend one night here and then he could figure out what to do next.
For now he walked into the other room and Tae had a thousand questions.
"Why is your appa so young?! He is cool!" Well, he looked cool, so that was enough to convince Tae. "Do you live by the Chinese place? What's it like?"
"It smells like food and it's dry. We sleep there. Yesterday I slept in appa's coat! I dunno why he's so young but he's really cool. He's smart too and he--he cooks and everything." Jungkook bragged as he came over to Namjoon and tried to peer at the book, seeking out spoilers. Namjoon gently pushed him back.
"He is cool. I went to school with him, he's my hyung. He's very good at music and he's very clever." Even if he barely turned up to exams or turn in homework - though that did make him cooler. "I always liked him."
"Cause he's pretty." Jungkook said with a nod, thinking more from his own point of view.
Namjoon went red and his eyes widened with shock. "What?! No! No, no, no."
"You don't think appa is pretty?"
"Well.. yes, your appa is incredibly pretty but I don't -- I mean, I'm not. I'm ... let's just go back to the book, please."
"Joonie-hyung likes Jungkook's appa cause he's pretty, pretty, pretty~!" Tae was already singing, he liked making up songs. "Incredibly pretty appa~! Jungkook's appa is the prettiest~!"
The song was way better than the book. Well, at east right at the moment, because of how funnily Namjoon reacted. "Pretty appa, pretty appa, pretty appa~!"
Yoongi opened the door to walk back out, stopping in the door frame when he heard the song. Huh. "You have a nice voice, kid." Loud. Mostly loud.
"Thank you!" Now Tae was blushing too. Like brother.
"He's loud and annoying, you mean." Rolling his eyes, he set the book aside and started to play wrestle his little brother, tickling him into mercy and then looking up at Yoongi. Damn. He was really pretty. "Feeling better, hyung? Showers can work miracles for that kind of thing."
Jungkook smiled and ran over, hugging his hyung-appa and beaming up at him, holding his arms out.
He wanted to be held, he wanted hugs and cuddles. They were special when he got them from Yoongi-hyung. "I want to not be smelly too, appa!"
"Oh... We should get you a shower too." Yoongi thought about it quickly, because he figured he could toss Jungkook's clothes in with his if they hurried. "Namjoon-ah, are there any clothes for someone this little that he can borrow for a bit? Then maybe we can get you showered."
Jungkook wasn't in as bad a shape as he was, but he clearly needed a shower too.
"Jungkook can have a shower instead of me," Tae offered graciously. Well, cleaning was no fun. Unless it was bath time.
"No, you're also smelly, you're showering at home." Rolling his eyes, Namjoon lifted up Tae in his arms and carried him along as he walked towards the manager, asking her for spares. He came back with a duckie shirt and shorts, all they had available right now. "It'll be a bit chilly but this should do while the clothes wash."
"Duck!" Jungkook pointed at the duck and smiled at Tae because yes, he did know all of his animals, he was that cool. "Quack."
"Yeah, that's a duck. Do you want to take him into the showers or wash him in one of the sinks? He's pretty small and they're pretty big. It's like a small bath." Just an option, he wasn't sure if Jungkook had ever used a shower before or not.
"The sink should work. There's one in the room with the washing machine, Jungkookie, so you can get clean where your clothes get clean."
Yoongi took the clothes Namjoon had brought, then took Jungkook's hand. "You can make a really good duck sound. Can you make a cat sound too?" He walked through the door with him and closed it behind them.
Tae looked at Namjoon with a wide smile. "Jungkook is so cute! He is all tiny, but he's really smart."
He had taken to the boy, maybe because he had been entrusted to him. "At first his appa looked scary and smelled scary, but now he's all nice and pretty. Is he a fairy? Cause I think it's magic." Had to be.
Jungkook was happily meowing as the door shut and Namjoon had to laugh. What a cute kid, Tae was right. There was no way he was letting them back outside today. Well. Only if they were going somewhere. He was thinking either getting them a hotel or they could cash at their place, maybe. "He's very tiny and he lost his eomma so he needs you a lot, Tae. You're gonna be a really good hyung for me, aren't you?"
He smiled and ruffled Tae's hair, leading him away from the door so they could sit down.
"Yoongi-hyung was having a very bad time but he's trying his best now to be a really good boy so we have to help him. He's not a fairy... not that I know." Hey, he couldn't say for sure. "But he is gonna be an appa so we have to help him with that. Being an appa is so hard."
