Namjoon had bought a lot today. So much that Yoongi had to sit in the front with him cause the backseat had all kinds of crap on it. Books, toys, kids bedding and teddy bears. He pushed the boat out, like he promised he would, and the boys had been so helpful telling him what they did and didn't like.
Now it was their turn to get stuff. "Okay, I got a spending limit of one hundred and fifty each for both of you. I'm trying to hold it back but -- uh, I'm real bad at that."
As they learned when Namjoon spend a good ten minutes trying to put some stuff back so he didn't go over his limit... and then ended up with more. He found a load of alien toys! He had to get them. "We're pulling up to the shopping mall so we'll get clothes and shoes, anything left over we can just get fun stuff, yeah? Whatever you want."
Yoongi exchanged a look with Hobi, honestly not sure what to make of all this. This was an insane amount of stuff, neither of them had expected anything even close to this. Why was Namjoon investing this much money? How much money did Namjoon have? One hundred and fifty on each of them? Yeah, officially insane.
"Thank you, hyung." Yoongi wasn't sure what else to say.
"Yes, thank you!" Hobi decided that this was ultimately pretty cool. "Hyung, can we go into the music store? They have one on the second floor."
"Oh yeah, of course. But remember not to blow all your money in there. You both seriously need shoes. And some shirts. Don't worry about the coat, I'll get that outside your limit cause coats can be pricey but you need a good one to get through winter."
He parked the car and set his parking pass in the window, opening the door and waiting for the boys to get out before locking up. Sticking close to them, he shoved his hands into his pockets and smiled.
"When I was your age, I got my hands on twenty five bucks and I was like 'I'm definitely gonna buy food with this' cause, you know, I was hungry. I came to this mall, went into that store and blew it all on a G Dragon album, a walkman and some cheap headphones that broke like three days in. Worth it." He'd been such an idiot once. "I know how easily money goes in that store."
"I like G Dragon." Yoongi could understand the impulse. He had done stuff like that, before he had four younger boys to save up for. But that didn't keep him from longing for the music store. He walked next to Hobi, who wrapped an arm around him and pointed things out excitedly. They hadn't been to the mall for a while, Jimin being sick had kind of occupied all their time.
When they were in the store, Hobi let go of Yoongi to head over to the CDs in the clearance bin, calling out to Namjoon. "Hyung, look! They have G Dragon too." Obviously older stuff or it would be in here.
Yoongi wandered off, heading for the back of the store where they kept the instruments.
"Aww, sweet. I got all his stuff at home. You two can borrow my collect any time... have you seen my collection yet? Damn, I should show you." It was massive. Namjoon stayed with Hobi for a while, just to praise him and show him how interested he was in him. He put an arm around the boy as he watched him pull out CDs, grinning widely. "You have such good taste in music. Us three are gonna get on great, huh? You just stick with hyung."
Walking aside, he wandered along the aisles and then to the end, eyeing up Yoongi with a frown. Why was the boy sitting at the fold away piano they had at the back?
Hobi managed to tear himself away from the CDs to walk over to the headphones, because - taking the wrong lesson from Namjoon's story - he was now already looking at a pair that cost a hundred. He didn't need that much money for clothes, right? He didn't see that Yoongi started playing, but when he heard him, it didn't surprise him.
Yoongi had been playing piano since before he met him and there were quite a few music stores where they had been banned for looking the way they did and hogging the piano. But Yoongi could play, Hobi knew that. He smiled and walked over so he could watch his friend, leaning against Namjoon. "You'll have to make him go or we're gonna be stuck here for too long."
"He really loves that thing, huh? All people should have a passion. I didn't realise his was a keyboard." That was pretty interesting. He did this a lot? Well. Suga had a lot of depth he didn't know about. He looked over at what Hobi was holding and huffed out a laugh, shaking his head. "Nah, don't blow all your money on those. Come with me."
He lead Hobi back over to the headphones and pulled out a pair of Beats, they were fifty but he assumed it was a good compromise. "Cool brand and great sound. You're getting a good deal. Those Sony ones aren't better, they just jack up the price cause they're new. Gangs wear Beats, yeah? Totally dope. Trust me."
Looking back, he heard Yoongi still and frowned a little. "I guess he doesn't play much these days?"
"Dunno. I mean, we didn't get much time off with Jimin being sick and all, but usually we'd just head to a mall once a week or so. So if you let him play for half an hour, that's kinda the usual." More or less. Hobi didn't exactly look at the time that closely, ever. "He still gets to write songs without playing, so..." Wait, he probably shouldn't be talking about that. To distract, he quickly tried on the sample headphones of the kind Namjoon had recommended and now he couldn't hear him. Ingenious.
"What do you mean-- oh, you little shit." Namjoon had to laugh, reaching out to ruffle Hobi's hair before he slowly walked along the shop and over to where Yoongi was playing. He eyed up the price tag of the keyboard curiously. It wasn't that price, actually. Surprisingly. He leaned on the top of it and watched Yoongi for a second before speaking.
"You're so talented, did you know that?" He really hoped he did. "You play beautifully. I love it. I could listen to it all day."
Yoongi scoffed, looking down at the keys and flexing his fingers a little. "I'm out of practise, I sound like shit." But he did like playing, when he got to. Even if he couldn't always make it sound the way it did in his head. He had meant to take out his notebook, but now Namjoon was right there and he'd just have to do it some other time.
He bowed his head a little. "Sorry, hyung." For the language. It just happened. "I'm glad you like it."
"Don't worry about it. Look, you know, with all things in life, it's practise. You gotta work on it. If you sound this good rusty, you must be beautiful when you've played more." He eyed up Hobi playing with headphones and decided they should probably pay up before they spent all their money.
"Come on, Yoongi, let's go pay up what Hobi and you have. Then definitely clothes, yeah?" He smiled and gestured for Yoongi to get up and follow. "Hobi! Stop playing and come on."
"I liked playing a lot when I was a child." Definitely past tense here. Not a child now. Yoongi nodded his head and walked on over to Hobi, checking out the headphones he showed him. They immediately agreed that they'd share them, because it seemed like a waste of money otherwise, even if they could only listen one at a time that way. Yoongi looked over Hobi's CD choices and frowned at a few of them, leading to quiet arguing, but in the end they headed to the check-out as a unit, Hobi wrapping his arms around Yoongi as they waited for Namjoon.
"Not too expensive, right?"
"Nah, that's not even eighty." Left them with plenty of money. "I don't know why you're spending money on us, hyung."
"I love music lovers. That's my weakness, I gotta encourage it. I like spending money on you guys anyway, it's fun. You're having fun, yeah? Cause I am." Namjoon set the stuff down, looked it over then walked off, silently returning with another set of headphones. Whatever. He had enough money, they could afford to be a bit eccentric. Jin would want them to be.
"Yo, Namjoon! Back again?" The cashier laughed as he scanned Namjoon's stuff through and Namjoon nodded, clearly they knew each other well. "Who are your friends?"
"They're, uh, they're--" What did he call them? Ah. Fuck it. "They're my boys. Good taste in music though, right? I love it. Also, hey, how much is the keyboard over there with delivery and how long does it take?"
The two talked numbers and Namjoon held out his card. "You'll get an email before it arrives. About two to three working days."
"Brilliant, thanks." The two bumped fists and Namjoon held out the bag to Hobi to carry. "Come on, kids."
Yoongi stared, only slowly putting together what was happening and still unable to comprehend it. Hobi grabbed the bag, smiling at Yoongi and hoping he'd smile back, but instead Yoongi just stared and didn't even really seem to realise that they left the store.
"Hyung? Suga?" Hobi shook his shoulder a little and finally Suga moved, but instead of doing anything Hobi expected, he turned around and ran off. Hobi frowned and tried running after him, then hesitated, looking at Namjoon. "...I think you made him cry."
That was his theory, because he figured it made sense, given everything. "Sorry about that. You are too kind, hyung!" He smiled, hoping Namjoon wouldn't be angry at Yoongi for running. "He'll be back, he's just gonna hide out in the bathroom." Educated guess.
"I should follow him. Hey, look, can you maybe go chill out at the Starbucks. Here you go." He gave him ten bucks and smiled at him, trying not to be too concern. "Get me an Americano and if you get yourself and Yoongi coffee then please, just get decaf." He ruffled Hobi's hair. "Good boy."
And with that, he took off running so he didn't lose Yoongi too much.
He figured that Hobi was probably right and he went for the bathroom, noticing one locked stall on the end. "Yoongi?" He walked along the bathroom and tried to work out if he was there. "You in here?"
Yoongi held his breath, sitting on the toilet lid with his feet pulled up as if that would somehow make the locked stall less obvious. Why did Namjoon care? Why did he have to follow? Why did he keep doing this? He rubbed at his eyes and tried to breathe calmly, because he couldn't let Namjoon hear him sob. He hoped his voice wouldn't sound like he'd been crying. Was crying. "Yeah."
"Look, I'm sorry if I made you sad but you played so beautifully, I couldn't let you not have it. It belongs to you. You know, I wasn't sure at first but it's all so crazy. I mean, I really like you. I hope that's... I hope it's okay. Cause I think -- I want to keep all of you. Somehow. Some way." Namjoon laughed cause he knew how crazy it all was, he knew it was stupid but ... he was too attached. He knew that. Tae, Yoongi, Hobi, Jimin and Kookie had his heart already and he didn't know how to leave them.
"I'm gonna too. Gonna find a way." Reaching out, he idly knocked on the stall. "Can you come out please, Suga. I want to see you. Please?"
"You don't like me. Why would you do that?" That'd just be dumb. People liked Jungkook for being adorable and usually quiet, Jimin and Tae for being adorable, affectionate and entertaining and Hobi for being sunshine. Yoongi didn't really see why anyone would like him. Keep all of them? That'd be...
He got up and walked to the toilet door, slowly unlocking. He didn't feel like being seen. Still, Yoongi finally stepped out, hands in his pockets as he stared at the ground. "Hey."
"Why would I like you? Cause you're passionate, intelligent, talented and God, you have such a big heart, don't you? You love those boys so much. And it must have been hard, yeah? To be their dad. And you're so young." Namjoon reached forward and pulled Yoongi into a hug, his heart aching for this poor boy who felt like he wasn't lovable. He cupped the back of his head and pulled him in properly, shushing him a little.
"I also like that you're a cocky little shit too. You and Hobi. It's funny, it annoys the hell outta me but it's funny. I like how you just deadpan at me and snark." Surprisingly. "You're a cute kid. I do like you. I promise."
Yoongi closed his eyes and at first tried to count to wait for it to be over as a way to distract himself from what was happening until it was over, but the problem was that it wasn't over. It wasn't over and he hadn't been hugged like that by an adult in... He didn't remember that ever happening.
And so it wasn't surprising that he finally broke down, because he was a child and everything had been a lot for a very long time now and he was trying not to feel the things he was feeling, but he couldn't help it and he was sobbing in Namjoon's arms.
"It's okay, yeah, come on. It's all okay." He pulled Yoongi in close and stroked his hair, kissing the top of his head and just trying to make him feel safe and loved. Poor boy, he must have been holding this in for so long. "I got you, yeah. I'm gonna keep having you. We'll be a team. All of us. It's gonna be tricky as hell but we got this. We're all hyungs."
He would talk to Jin, maybe Hobi and Yoongi could help watch the kids or they could get a sitter. "You don't have to be alone, Yoongi, not any more. I'm here for you." Pulling him back a little, he held him by the shoulders and tried to meet his eyes. "If you want to be with me then I want you to be with me too, yeah? Does that sound good?"
Yoongi did meet Namjoon's eyes, but ultimately just for a second or two before he looked past him again, just glad that he finally managed to stop crying. He hadn't meant to get like this and he hated that he couldn't control it. Could he really trust this? He wanted to. He wanted to so badly. "Yeah. Sounds good."
He finally caught on to the fact that Hobi wasn't there, so he blinked. "Where's J-Hope?"
"Yeah, I sent him to starbucks and I think I accidentally gave him a twenty so I'm terrified to find out what we're going to see when we get there." Namjoon laughed and he put an arm around Yoongi, holding him protectively close because he was fragile, probably embarrassed, he needed to make sure he comforted him or he'd close now. He'd never do it around him again. He just kept it light and easy, smiling playfully.
"Let's go stop Hobi from drowning in frapps, yeah?"
"He'll be drowning in girls," Yoongi prophesied cryptically as they left the bathroom. He knew his friend well enough. Really high time he met up with Ten again, at least Ten knew how to control him. He hoped his crying wasn't too obvious, but he just tried not to think about it. There was a tightness in his chest that had lessened a little now. Maybe life could be easier for once.
Easy the way it was for Hobi to sit right at a table of girls at least four years older than him, telling jokes and laughing after having bought them all drinks. They thought he was adorable and that was just fine with him. He was currently encouraging one of them to play a song on her phone and the moment the music started up, he started dancing. Hey, the girls were cheering.
"J-Hope," Yoongi told Namjoon, as if that explained anything. "Hope on the streets."
He spent his money wooing girls? Oh, yeah, no. This would not stand. "I'm gonna go ruin his rep cause he's way too tiny. Wish me luck." Namjoon winked and then came over, badly dancing across to him before throwing his arms around him and giving him a kiss on the cheek. Nothing worse than a dorky dad dance and a kiss. "There's my little boy! I thought I lost you. I was gonna put up an announcement."
While Hobi was stunned, he grabbed his arm and led him back over to where Yoongi was, shaking his head. "Don't hit on older girls. You're tiny! And besides, you said you had a boyfriend."
He tutted and shook his head. "Be a good boy or I'll dance again."
