It was so fun to be backstage right now, to hear Agust D perform and the crowd going wild. He didn't get to see it or concentrate much on it, he had a lot to do but it was still so fun. His boss was up after Agust D and had asked for one thing from him for his performance - some water to be left on the side of the stage for when he was done. And that was easy to do, Namjoon could do that.
He filled a bottle of water and hurried through the backstage area as he heard his boss performing - the set was ten minutes, he had time but even so, he was worried he'd fuck it up.
As he was moving, he looked in front of him at all the faces and no one really stood out - stage hands, make up artists, managers and -- oh God, it was Agust D! He was suddenly right in front of him, about to block his path and Namjoon wanted to move to the side but somehow, someway, he ended up just throwing his arm out and lobbing almost half of the bottle of water all over Agust D.
He was sure he heard a gasp and several people turned but Namjoon didn't notice, he shot forward and essentially started to rub at the man's chest, trying to wipe the water off. "Oh no! No, no, no. I'm so so sorry!"
Yoongi hadn't expected water to be tossed at him. Obviously not, there wasn't really any reason to expect that. It was, honestly, not entirely unwelcome, he had just finished his set, he was tired and it had been hot and the water was cool, but it was weird. Very weird, made weirder by some guy having his hands all over him. Sorry?
Oh. Okay. Almost in a trance, he just shook his head. "It's fine. Okay." What had happened how? He assumed an accident. With a lot of water.
"I'm sorry!" Namjoon saw a flash go off - maybe a few, he wasn't sure - he was very overwhelmed and he could see now that Agust D's manager was looming and people were watching. Perhaps in panic mode, he just sort of gave up trying to clean him off and just sort of hugged him to try and appease him so he wouldn't be mad. Was that an insane thing to do? Yes. Yes, it really was.
But he had already done it so he couldn't take it back so now what? With a terrified smile, he looked at him, eyes just as wide as Agust D. "... I'm your biggest fan."
Oh God, why was he liked this? "I really love you, I'm sorry!"
"Cool." What did he do? This wasn't some insane fan who had gotten backstage, Yoongi assumed, given he was wearing a staff badge, so he tried to not feel alarmed, although he definitely looked confused and a little bit scared. "It's fine. It's water, it will dry."
There, what wisdom. He tried a bit of a smile and just shrugged. "See you."
What a dumb thing to say. It wasn't as if he knew the guy!
"See you too. Thanks. I'm sorry!" Namjoon didn't know what else to do, he pulled back and petted Yoongi's chest before walking away from him with his half a bottle of water and a dazed expression, not sure what had just happened. He was insane. He was insane and stupid, he was so fired. He closed his eyes and groaned, making himself promise to not embarrass himself again.
And while he was cursing himself with his eyes closed, he walked right into another person and stomped on their foot. Opening his eyes, he made a panicked noise.
"Ow." Minjun sounded amused more than anything. There he was, with his custom NIKE's, which might now be richer by one more custom feature. Luckily they were well cushioned, so it hadn't actually hurt. Anyway, it was probably his fault, he had watched that entire scene between that guy and Agust D play out with too much fascination to get out of the way.
"Hey. I'm Kim Minjun." Rather obviously and famously. Most children knew his name, all knew his stage name.
"Hello, hi. Hello. I'm Kim Namjoon! I-- You're awesome. Hi." Why did he keep saying hi? What was wrong him him? He was just so stunned. From one hero to another. And he had less than five minutes to get the half a bottle of water to his boss before he lost his job and why was this all happening now? He looked almost dazed, grinning at Minjun and then reaching out to shake his hand. Was he crossing a line? Yes. Yes, he seriously was. Should he stop? Also yes.
But he couldn't help it. He was touching Minjun. THE Minjun. GD. The king of kpop. "Hi."
Minjun wasn't sure what he had expected to happen, but given everything he had witnessed so far, this seemed about right. He shook Namjoon's hand, because why not? With a smile of his own, he wondered how often he'd say hi. How long his hand would be shaken. "Hey. Nice meeting you, Namjoon-ah."
Well, he was definitely too adorable to call him anything else. "Are you here often?"
"No, I'm new. Very new. I may not be here next time either, I'm really bad at my job." Well, he had to be honest and he had to laugh at himself, there were no other options. He quite a good job for this and he was fucking it up all over the place. Everything he did was wrong and he knew it, he could see the disapproving looks from the other staff members.
Realising that he was just standing there, holding his hand and shaking it on occasion, Namjoon quickly pulled his hand back and laughed nervously. "I'm sorry. I'm really nervous! There's so many people, it's wild."
Minjun's phone had buzzed a couple times a while ago, but he was too focused to care too much, so he hadn't checked it yet. He was working on a track, sitting in the chair with one leg up and his chin on his knee, watching the screen as he tried to figure out what was bothering him. Just didn't sound quite right yet, but he wasn't sure what should be changed.
He had no idea what time it was, but it also didn't concern him much. He wasn't tired yet, so what did it matter? He did, however, notice when someone appeared in the doorway, because he did know that it was a bit too late for most people to still be here. He swivelled around in his chair and smiled when he saw Jungkook, waving his hand. "Hey, Kookie."
"Hey, GD-hyung." It took months to get him to remember it was hyung and not nim but he was finally getting used to it. It was weird to say - hyung. Hyung to the greatest star of all time. It was surreal. Jungkook shuffled awkwardly into the room and looked around before bowing to his elder. "What are you up to? You're here later than usual." It was normal to be late but it was super late for Minjun.
Jungkook too but he had a lot to learn and he was afraid of messing up so the only solution was practise, practise, practise. "Did you get any food today or anything? I can bring you something."
"We're dropping teasers for a new album soon, announcement's gonna be next week, so I'm getting perfectionist. Guess you weren't around for the last time that happened." Most people knew what it was like, which was why his members gladly left him to it right now. "Relax, Kookie, just sit down. You aren't a waiter. If I get that hungry, I can just order food. Or, you know, I think there's some snacks in that cabinet over there. Feel free to check."
He assumed Kookie was hungry, he remembered being that age. "What are you up to?"
"I might back up dance on a live performance so I'm making sure I'm good just in case." He didn't want to fuck up his first chance at doing something at a performance level. He had only trained so far so back up dancing was exciting. He wasn't like Minjun, he wasn't album ready. Not even band ready. He wandered over to the cabinet and opened it up, eyeing up the candy bars but fighting against taking one. Eating his hyung's food felt rude.
"How is the new album looking? You guys have worked overtime on it." They all knew about it, every trainee had seen the work going on around them. Especially the way Jiho rushes around the studio.
"I don't know. Right now, I think all of it is shit." Wasn't the right time to think about it rationally, but Minjun tried, while leaning back in the chair. "Come on, bring some snacks over. You can keep hyung company."
Such an awkward little bunny. "I'm sure you'll be fine for performance. Your dance skills are up there, I've seen you." He had trust in that, but he got how nervous Jungkook would be.
"This album is... It's more personal, for the most part. Really important for Gyungho especially, I think. I'm sure it will do well. I'm just not sure how good it is yet."
Jungkook grabbed some candy bars and walked back over to Minjun, holding them out so he could pick first. He liked his hyung to pick first, then it allowed him to relax more. He was more at ease around Minjun these days but little things still got to him. He didn't want to be seen as greed or as someone using Minjun so he was just very careful about it.
"I bet it's really good, you don't make bad stuff, hyung. Besides, I know Gyungho-nim has been working on it a lot too - with you two working, it'll be a masterpiece."
He found it hard to believe that Minjun and Gyungho would have made something bad. And even if they did, it'd sell amazingly so who cared?
"It's probably good. No, yeah, I do think it's good. But it will be dicey. See--" Minjun reached for a candy bar at random, then ran a hand through his hair as he thought about it, biting down on his lip. "I don't really care about what critics think. Not these days. Love me, hate me, I know they'll write about me anyway. Doesn't matter. My fans are there. But Gyungho, he's-- He'll be different. Especially with this album. He'll read all the articles and he'll obsess over them. That's just how he is, you know? He can't not care. He can act as if he doesn't care, but he always cares."
"That must be really hard when everyone is always talking about you." There were always things about Gyungho in the media and it was strange to think of him as being effected when he always said he didn't care in songs. He hoped it did well, he hated to imagine Gyungho being sad over this. Or Minjun. "Is he scared that people will hate him or ... is it just scared that people won't like his art?"
Or was it both? He wasn't sure, he was just trying to understand.
