Ten was not someone who liked to be bored and lately, he was getting kind of bored. He thought studying abroad would interest him more and engage him more. He thought he could get into singing properly, maybe experiment with art, maybe meet a hot kpop boy but no, he was mostly just studying non-stop and being spoken down to for not being Korean. It wasn't exactly a thrill ride.
It was early morning and Ten was loitering out front, texting Win stuff he had to study and hearing the latest gossip from Thailand when his interest was peeked watching Min Yoongi head off the bus, holding his basketball and looking as thrilled to be here as Ten was.
Min Yoongi was like a year or so above him, he wasn't entirely sure the exact deets, but he knew one thing about him and that was his current deal. Girls could ask him out for a week and he would date them, be a good boyfriend and then always dump them at the end. He didn't believe in love so he proved it this way - by rejecting any girl who tried. It was, admittedly, really entertaining.
Without thinking, he started to follow behind him as he pondered why a guy would go to such a length to disprove high school love. He knew it was a dare but even so, he was still putting himself out there. Maybe he had some hope. Ten hurried up so he could fall into step with Yoongi, walking alongside him with a smile.
"Hey. I'm Ten, nice to meet you." He grinned playfully and then bowed to his older. "You're Min Yoongi, right?" Just wanted to make sure. "The guy who does the dare?"
Yoongi let out a short groan, but then just nodded his head. Yeah, he was doing the dare. And he really hated that he was doing the dare and it was the biggest motivation ever to stop drinking so he couldn't agree to any other stupid dares, but he wasn't about to lose this one, even if it was often annoying and embarrassing.
"Yeah. I'm Min Yoongi." He looked at the other boy, then nodded his head to be polite. Younger than him, foreigner, but pretty good Korean. He couldn't remember ever seeing him before. Looking ahead again he spotted a few clusters of girls coming up and he tried to brace himself. Damn it. He honestly believed that this whole stupid dare had mostly been a scheme Gyungho had come up with to get him out of his shell and he also knew that the only reason he hadn't backed off it yet was that he didn't want to give in. He was too petty. He'd win this stupid thing, because the only thing more stupid than the stupid thing would be to lose the stupid thing. "Yeah. I do the dare."
"Cool, cool. So, you know, do you have a criteria?" Ten looked ahead at the girls and smirked a little, amused by how eager they all seemed to be. They really liked Yoongi and he kind of got it. A cool badass, loner who played basketball and piano. Very talented, very sexy, kind of a bad boy vibe in some ways. Probably the never giving a fuck air he had moreso than any actions cause he didn't really seem the rebel type. "Do you like the eager girls or the shy girls or those confident sexy one in short skirts?"
Ten sounded like any other dumb boy who came over to ask Yoongi about his sex life and the girls he was into as if to get an edge and copy him. To get some expert tips. Ten wasn't curious because of any of that. He was just trying to gauge his type.
As they got closer to the girls, he knew he had to say something that would get Min Yoongi to stop and look at him. "Is it always girls or do guys stand a chance? Cause... I heard you'd date anyone not any girl."
"Anyone who asks. First to ask on Monday, has to be older than fourteen, younger than eighteen, go to this school." Yoongi had recited the criteria that had been agreed on plenty of times before, so it was easy enough. The second question had him roll his eyes. "They are all wearing the same uniforms, so..."
He hadn't noticed a big difference in skirt lengths. Maybe some hitched theirs up? Maybe shorter skirts outside school on dates. Honestly, he wasn't into anyone who got too aggressive, mostly because it was terrifying. Yeah, that was the word.
As Ten kept talking, Yoongi's eyebrows went up and he turned his head. "...yeah. I know, I just figured no one else would realise that." People never seemed to think outside their straight boxes.
Ten smiled and reached his hand out to hold onto Yoongi's blazer and hold him back from the girls ahead, turning him so he faced him and only him. Playfully, he stepped closer to Yoongi and looked into his eyes. "It's Monday today and it's 7am. Has anyone asked you yet? I would be surprised, given you just arrived."
So that meant he could ask. Why was he doing this? He didn't know. He just was. He was just ... so desperate to feel alive and have some fun. To have company. To have a fun experience. Hell, gay kids like him never got to date a jock. They never got the cliché high school tropes all the girls did - he wanted them so bad.
Yoongi didn't meet Ten's eyes for long, but he also didn't turn his head away, he did look at him and - in retrospect - he really supposed he shouldn't have been surprised by the turn that took. Yet he still stared at him for a few heartbeats, said heart speeding up. This was different. He had obviously had girls come up with loads of ways of asking him out in the past several weeks, but none stood out. None were like this.
When he could finally think again, he just nodded his head. "Sure."
He did note some gasps and a few giggles. Oh, great. People were watching. "We are going out."
Well. What now? Yoongi glanced at the clock, then held his hand out. "I can carry your backpack to your first class?"
"It's okay, I can carry my own. I like that your hands are free. Makes it easier to do this." Boldly, Ten took Yoongi's hand and some girls were whispering and laughing, amused by the display. Some were mocking, some were just living out their BL fantasy. Ten didn't seem to care. He held onto Yoongi's hand and pulled him along because he didn't overly seem to be moving and he wasn't afraid to take the lead.
"My lunch break is at noon and my final class before lunch is Maths so I'm going to wait in the classroom for you, just so you know. You best be there to pick me up. We'll have lunch together." He grinned excitedly and then wrapped his arms around Yoongi's arm. "I didn't pack a lunch today but we can buy something at the canteen."
Maybe tomorrow we could order Yoongi a bento or something. That would be so cute.
"We can share my lunch, if you want." Yoongi didn't overly fancy having to buy for Ten, given he'd have to do that for a couple of dates at least and, well. It wasn't as if he had that much money. Another reason why this whole dare was idiotic, but whatever. He held Ten's hand and didn't seem bothered by being clung to. In fact, nothing so far seemed different from whether Ten would have been a girl or not.
He walked with Ten, ignoring anyone who might be watching them. Whatever, people always found something to talk about. "Do you want to take a selfie? I still need your number. I have basketball training this afternoon, but you can watch if you want to or we can meet up after."
"I'll come and watch. I haven't watched basketball in a while. I was on the team in my old school but I felt like being more creative at this school. I'm in the art club, it's a totally different vibe. More pretentious... more pot smell." He was digging it in his own way. He still loved basketball and he and Win still synced up games to watch online whenever the Bangkok Tigers played but he didn't want that to be something he got stuck with. The same hobbies made him bored in the long run.
"Pass me your phone, I'll take the picture." He took Yoongi's phone and took a swift selfie before adding his name and number in alongside it. "I saved myself in with the numbers, not the letters. It's 10. Then I'm at the top of your contacts, not at the bottom."
"Smart. Though I don't have that many contacts." Honestly. It helped that a lot of his social life lately was being eaten up by the most idiotic dare ever and he didn't keep any of those exes saved in his phone.
Slowing down now that they seemed to be on the right hallway, Yoongi turned to look at Ten, still holding his hand. "The rules... I'll be as good a boyfriend as I can be. You can dump me at any point. I'll be loyal and treat you right. All until Sunday night, then I delete your number."
That said he smiled, reached up and ran his fingers through Ten's hair. "You're very handsome, Ten. I'll see you at lunch."
"Seven days? I like it." Ten smiled and reached out to stroke his hyung's soft jaw, enjoying how smooth his skin was. What a catch. "I'll see you after maths for lunch. Don't keep me waiting." Ten reluctantly let go of Yoongi and moved away, smiling and waving as he left to go into his first class. All through the next two periods, people flicked notes at him and sent him text messages.
All in the same vein of: what the fuck are you doing?
He didn't respond to any outside of a smile or a smile emoji. He just waited until noon came around and sat there, watching the door, curious if Yoongi would actually come and pick him up. He did wonder when gay panic might begin.
Yoongi sent Ten a single emoji before he got ready to pick him up.
🍱
Then he made his way down to the floor Ten's classroom was on and ignored anyone getting excited over him going there. He stayed in the door frame, looking for his date and waving with a little smile once he had his attention.
"Always. It's one of the best Korean foods." With a smile, he hurried up to meet him properly and carried his bag along with him, walking next to Yoongi without holding his hand this time. The rumour was out, he didn't have to stake his claim any more. He liked holding hands but he also liked having his hand free so he could walk and text back some of his friends.
"I bet you're not doing so hot on money after dating all of those girls. One girl in my year dated you... did you really get her shoes?"
They didn't look that expensive but that was a lot of cash to use on a dare. "When do you get the mercy of ending this whole thing?"
"Not much longer. Winter holidays." At the time it hadn't seemed that long. But that had been at the beginning of the school year. By now it was fairly exhausting. But he was going to stick it out. "You don't have to worry about that though. Or about money. We're just dating, that's it."
Yoongi smiled at him and then it was him who took Ten's hand. Good boyfriend. "I made the kimbap myself. You better appreciate them, I wouldn't treat just anyone."
"You cook? Woah. That's so cool." He didn't even get how people got into cooking and loved to do it so much. His chef did it all and he never really had to cook for himself cause he just found it kind of boring. It was fun to occasionally do stuff with grandma when he was home and all but even then, he did just loved being with her. He didn't much care about the food prep at all - except for when he got to eat it.
"Are you more into cooking or baking? Cause I know how to bake but not how to cook." He knew how to make the Thai desserts grandma taught him and that was it. He held onto Yoongi's hand and turned, smiling at him. "I'm not the best in the kitchen."
"My family has a restaurant, so I cook a lot." Not that he really worked there properly, but of course he helped out at times. And of course his eomma insisted that he knew how to do it. Besides, there were times when his brother would absolutely only eat food that he made, even if someone else could make it just as well or even better, all making him a better cook.
"You should bake for me some time," he said lightly, because, well. They were dating, so why not? "Then I'll cook more for you."
"Works for me." As they headed into the canteen, Ten took a seat at an empty table and pulled out his bottle of ice tea, knocking some back as he watched Yoongi get his lunch out. Homemade lunch was such a neat concept. He always just brought lunch but to make it yourself? Fascinating. "So, you free after school today? I kind of want to go and get something tasty like bubble tea or ice cream. If you tag along, I'll buy you one."
He waggled his eyebrows playfully at Yoongi, hoping he'd be swayed. "I'll make it worth your time. Maybe we'll even get snacks to go."
"I'm free after training. We can go, but I'll pay." Well, he wasn't only the boyfriend, he was also the hyung. Honestly, Yoongi wished he had dated more older girls, that was a lot easier on his wallet. But whatever, he didn't mind treating Ten. He seemed cute.
He held a kimbap out for him, feeding him, aware but not giving a fuck about the people watching. Really a great day for fangirls, all in all. "Let hyung treat you."
"It's okay, hyung. Trust me. I wanna pay." Even so, he knew what age meant so if this guy really did insist then he supposed he'd have to cave. He opened his mouth and let himself get fed, chewing happily and blushed a little, reaching out to slap Yoongi's arm playfully. "I feel like I'm in a BL. You ever seen those? Usually in those, the gay boys get to just be, like, you know... normal. Mostly. There's usually some weird rape or step brother nonsense but generally it's a lot of cuteness. Like this."
Bouncing a little, he slid his chair closer to Yoongi's and pressed their thighs together. And no, he didn't care who was watching. "Thai has a lot of those but Korea, not so much. Sad, really."
"Hm." So Ten was gay then? Yoongi figured that didn't come as a surprise, but it was nice to have it confirmed properly. And, yes, he had watched BL, but he didn't have to openly admit to that. He wasn't concerned about anything they were doing, but that was different from openly talking about his watching habits. "So we are doing our own BL. Thai-Korean."
He would watch it, that much was for sure. "Yoongi and Ten."
"Oh yeah. I guess you're the cold, stoic type. That's interesting cause that trope can go either way, top or bottom." Ten just casually put out there playfully, smiling as he ate some more, unable to not tease. He did have fun with people who were open to some teasing - not all boys were but Yoongi was at least doing this so he was already way more progressive than most guys he hung out with.
"So tell me why the dare started? Was it like a challenge to find love or just a fun way to kill some time?"
"Somewhere in-between, I guess. Mostly you should listen to me and never drink. It doesn't lead anywhere good." That much he had learned for sure. Although he hadn't entirely hated this experience. "I'm not saying it's impossible to find love. I'm saying it hasn't happened for me."
And he really wasn't holding his breath. But he did lean forward to close the distance between them, voice low as he spoke close to Ten's ear. "Top."
"Never? Not once? Well... I can't say I have either so who am I to judge? Most people bore me. You don't." He had only known Yoongi for a small space of time and he was already intrigued. He played along, he seemed to engage in his own way, he seemed to enjoy playing the same and he knew what a top was. And, apparently, he was one. Nice.
Yes, he knew that this was probably a game and there was no real proof that he wasn't just being the best boyfriend ever for the sake of the dare but Ten had no problem enjoying the delusion. He rubbed his foot against Yoongi's calf playfully and looked down at his phone.
"You should come to my house tomorrow. I think it'd be nice to watch a movie and hang."
"Sure." Tomorrow, Tuesday. Yoongi went over his schedule. "I've time after school until six." Then he had to pick Kangwoo up from his martial arts class and there could be no break in routine there. No dare in the world would make him neglect his brother.
He allowed for the calf and foot action, because whatever, it wasn't making him uncomfortable. That was his rule, nothing that made either of the participants uncomfortable. "What movie do you want to watch? What do you like?"
"I don't know. I like musicals. I'll pick one. I don't know what yet. I'll try not to make it too lame if you're not into musicals." Ten assured as he already started to ponder, ignoring the fact that soon he'd have to get up and go to English class. He was like a year ahead on the material so it was a bit boring, honestly. "Maybe Disney. I love a good princess movie, even if I hate all that modern Disney stands for."
Playfully, he smiled at Yoongi. "Want to meet outside my class at 4 today? We can go get ice cream."
"You keep forgetting I have basketball training, huh? I'll pick you up, but you'll have to wait until after for me to get you ice cream." Which he wasn't against, he'd be burning off a lot of calories, so ice cream after seemed like a good idea, honestly. "I like musicals just fine. Just don't make me watch any horrifying romantic movie that's really not romantic."
"Oh yeah, basketball. Okay, I'll be your cheerleader first. I'll find some pompoms." He let that hang so Yoongi could ponder whether or not it was going to be real. He stood up and sighed, shaking his head a little. "Straight romcoms have gotten wild, right? I watched one recently and man, they're grasping to be outsiders. Tall, too pretty, too undead, too straight... it's a tough life."
With an amused little grin, he reached out and ruffled Yoongi's hair. "I'll cut you the effort and meet you at the basketball court. I'll be on the bleachers, checking out all the hot boys in tight shorts."
Yoongi tilted his head and then stood up as well, shoving aside the knowledge that people were paying attention to them. He wrapped an arm around Ten's waist and leaned in so he could press their cheeks together, all so he could speak close to his ear. "You are mine, yeah? You only check me out."
There was an advantage to only being a boyfriend for a week. No need to rule in any possessive base instincts. "Don't forget that."
"Sexy. Same applies to you. No other girl or boy. Just me. I'm ten out of ten. What more do you want?" With a playful wink, Ten grabbed his bag and headed to the door, looking at the people watching them with a smug expression. Well, he was at least making things interesting. Not many people at this school could say the same.
Usually, Yoongi didn't pay much attention to what was happening on the bleachers, even if in recent practices, there had been a new girl sitting there each week more often than not, watching him. Kind of got samey very quickly.
But today felt different. Maybe because it was a boy or maybe because it was Ten?
He honestly wasn't so sure. But he did run over to the bleachers before training started properly, so he could drape his jacket - the cool basketball captain one - over Ten's shoulders. "Gets cold in here when you're not running around."
"Nice touch. You're really good at this." A little too good. It felt fake when he tried like that but far be it from Ten to refute the dream. He liked playing pretend and he liked the game, the whole 'perfect boyfriend' routine was pretty entertaining. Looking at Yoongi, he smiled and reached up to run his fingers along his jersey, feeling the soft mesh of the top. "If I'm still cold later, you'll have to give me your shirt."
Leaning back on the bleachers, he nodded towards the court with a determined expression. "Go kick ass. I wanna date a handsome winner."
"I'll do my best." And he wasn't making any promises. Yoongi smiled a little and then ran back onto court, calling people to focus and actually getting the training started. There were quite a few girls in the audience, plenty of them whispering about Ten and wondering, more or less subtly. Nothing surprising there.
Ten didn't cheer until Yoongi's side was definitely winning and then he really went for it. He had no shame, he yelled out Yoongi's name, he gave him a thumbs up and waved whenever he caught his eye and he brushed off any comments or speculations from the people sitting around him. Some were just curiosity and some were more offensive but whatever, Ten didn't care. He was dating a jock for a week.
A cute, soft jock at that.
He hurried down the stairs when the practise game was over, standing on the edge and waiting for Yoongi to come over and greet him.
Yoongi discussed some things with a few of his teammates and then bowed to his coach after accepting his comments, then he ran over to where Ten was waiting, a little out of breath and with his hair sticking to his face. Usually he'd have gone straight for the showers, but with Ten waiting right on the edge, he didn't want to just leave him standing there. "Was I good enough? Enough of a winner?"
"Enough to earn yourself something tasty. You were awesome. Go get changed and I'll wait outside the lockers." Ten picked up a towel off the side and used it to dry off Yoongi's sweat soaked hair before leaving it on his head, laughing so slightly. "You're cute, hyung. Cute boys get extra treats. Promise."
He was so going to get him a shake and an ice cream. He played so well. Totally not a loser.
"I'm lucky then." Yoongi smiled and he realised that it was a real smile, which was a little weird. Usually he didn't get that much into this. He cleared his throat and then walked off, joining his team on their way to the lockers.
A shower and a lot of inappropriate jokes that he stomped down on hard later, Yoongi came out, hair still a little wet, but at least he was no longer sweaty and gross. He smiled at Ten and reached for his hand right away, not demanding his jacket back. It looked good on Ten, honestly. It was nice that he was dating a boy actually shorter than him.
