Yoongi ignored that pointed look. It was easy, really, he did it all the time. "Why is Hobi letting his people date such trash?"
"I assume they get to date whoever they want," Jin said reasonably, because, well. Seemed kind of obvious. "Don't your people get to date who they want?"
He certainly wasn't about to let Yoongi intervene in his love life. Yoongi frowned, realising he had been slightly hypocritical, because for the most part he really couldn't be bothered to care one way or another. Hm. "Not Jungkook." Just saying. "He's young and impressionable and has terrible taste."
Clearly that allowed for interference.
"Right." Jin rolled his eyes, although he made sure Min Yoongi wasn't actually looking at him. He might have known him as Suga, but he still knew that there were lines not to cross. "I need to get back into the kitchen. Please don't shoot anyone."
He blew Namjoon a kiss, leaving him with Yoongi's decreasingly lacklustre attempts to not just outright stare in Jimin's direction.
"I'll call you later, if I'm free, I'll come over. I'll bring dinner." Maybe. Late dinner. Midnight snack, really. But he really loved the noodles at this one place by Jin and he was determined to spend some time with him soon. "We won't shoot anyone, scout's honour." He crossed his heart and then blew a kiss back.
Turning his head, he watched Yoongi and then slowly looked over at Jimin. Oh boy, they would not do business well tonight. "Okay, focus up. We have to go over all these forms."
He pulled out the documents and tried to reign focus in, tried to keep them on track as he showed Yoongi the wages they'd paid, who got a raise this year and the pension scheme he'd devised. He jumped a little when he heard a smash and just sort of assumed it was him, somehow, because he broke everything.
Checking around himself, he soon heard hasty apologies and turned away. Jimin had knocked his glass off the table by accident.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" Jimin apologised readily, dropping down to get the pieces. "I will pay for it!"
"Fuck, you are so clumsy." Cheon clearly sounded annoyed, while the waitress hurried to clean it up, bowing deeply and assuring Jimin that it must be her fault for putting the glass in the wrong place. "Must be an issue of two idiots colliding then."
Yoongi lowered his head, his hand twitching. No one got to talk like that to Jimin. But he did his best to rein himself in, staring at the forms in front of him and pressing his lips together.
"Namjoon, what did you do now?" Jin called from the kitchen door, obviously suspecting his beloved too. Stood to reason. When he saw who it had actually been he was quick to smile and bow. "Don't worry about it. It happens all the time."
Jimin blushed in embarrassment and desperately tried to handle the situation, cutting his finger a little on the glass. "I'm so sorry, Cheon. I always fuck up." He tried to laugh a little, licking his hurt finger as the manager came out.
Wait, Namjoon? He knew that name. Suga had a roommate called-- oh no. He turned his head and there they were, Namjoon and Suga. He stared for a few heartbreaking seconds then swiftly looked away, frozen in place on the floor.
Oh no, no, no. This was a nightmare.
"It wasn't me!" Namjoon held his hands up, apologetic and playful that he so often caused this, not noticing that Jimin had realised it was them but assuming he'd know soon. "Not me for once."
"You are an embarrassment." Cheon shook his head, looking away from the mess and figuring he'd just pretend it wasn't happening. When would Jimin be ready to be taken anywhere in public?
Jin personally put down a new glass for Jimin, smiling politely. "Please don't apologise. It was probably our fault and it is not a big deal. Bring him a band-aid, quickly." He addressed that last part to a waitress who immediately rushed off, while Jin leaned down to put a hand on Jimin's shoulder. "Are you all right?"
Unable to resist, Yoongi turned in his seat to get a better look at Jimin, even though his heart was breaking further in his chest. He was a gangster, couldn't he just steal him? He clearly wasn't happy.
"I'm just really sorry. I didn't mean to cause any problems, I'm just really clumsy." God, he wanted to cry for so many reasons but he knew Cheon hated that in public. He slowly pulled himself up and back into his seat, looking down sheepishly and taking the bandaid when it was offered. Suga was here. He was here and he was breaking his heart as always. He couldn't handle this right now.
"Cheon, I'm really sorry." He didn't want the other to be mad at him. "Can we please leave? I want to go home." He knew everything he wanted hinged on Cheon and if he didn't feel like it, he was stuck here. And he didn't want to be.
"That guy sounds like a piece of work." Namjoon rolled his eyes and looked away, not sure what they could do. It wasn't like they could get involved. "Good thing Jin is there, he's good at neutralising tension."
"Please, it's fine. Can I bring you a free drink?" Jin realised that whatever was going on here was unlikely to have anything to do directly with the glass smashing, but he still didn't want people to be this unhappy in his restaurant.
"We are staying," Cheon said decisively and Yoongi was back to pressing his lips together. It wasn't as if he wanted Jimin to leave, this was the closest he had been to him in entirely too long, but he sounded so upset. If it had been up to him, he'd have taken Jimin away immediately and wrapped his arms around him. But of course, it wasn't up to him. It was up to that asshole, who was now getting up. "I'm going outside to smoke. Try not to ruin anything until I get back."
With that he turned and walked off, wanting Jimin to learn that he couldn't dictate to him how they were doing things. Yoongi swallowed, everything inside him screaming at him to comfort Jimin, but he had no idea how to go about that.
"...do you want dessert? I've just finished some that's delicious." Jin just wanted to help this customer feel better. He looked so young.
"Wait, Cheon, please. Please. Don't!" Jimin hissed under his breath, desperate and upset, trying to grab onto Cheon but he was fucking gone. And everyone here had seen it. They seen what an idiot he was and they were staring at him, he felt so mortified. He lowered his head awkward and shook it slowly, trying his best not to cry. He was trapped in a room with his exit, he couldn't leave it and his boyfriend was being the biggest dick.
"I'm okay, thank you. I'll just wait for Cheon. I'm really sorry about everything." Maybe he could find a way to tip higher than was expected.
Namjoon looked over at Jin trying to resolve the situation but there was literally no way to resolve this nicely. Holy shit. He atmosphere in the room their side of things was tense and Namjoon slowly turned his head back to look at Yoongi.
He looked ready to kill someone. "Stay calm, Yoongi. Please."
"He's outside the restaurant now. There's no rule about not shooting there." Yoongi was just saying. He wasn't moving, although it cost a lot. He knew that going over there was likely to only make Jimin more upset, not less. Right? Right.
Probably.
"Let me know if you need anything." Jin smiled, trying to decrease the tension in the room. So he straightened up and cleared his throat. "We will be bringing something to each of you shortly to thank you for your patronage. Just a small treat. I hope you enjoy it."
He bowed and there was some polite clapping, especially from the female patrons, then Jin headed back into the kitchen to actually find something he could send out.
"...check on him, Namjoon." That was better, right? "Please."
"Oh, Jimin? Oh. No. Please don't make me do that."
He didn't know what to say and the kid looked so upset, he was going to fuck it up. He always fucked it up. He wasn't like Jin, he had a way with people. Namjoon had a way of saying the wrong things, as he always did. With Kookie, with Yoongi and even Jin sometimes. Still, Yoongi was giving him that look. "... Fine, I'll do it."
Getting up slowly, he awkwardly creeped over and came by to Jimin, crouching down by his table and trying to get his attention. "You okay?"
"Yes, sorry." Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit. "It's all good, I'm just clumsy. I'm an idiot, please, leave me alone." He didn't want anyone else drawing attention to it.
"If you ain't okay, just come talk to us. Yeah?"
The offer had been made, Namjoon tentatively placed a hand on Jimin's back and ignored now he flinched under it, clearly a bit upset right now. He came back over to Yoongi and sat down. "I just told him we'd talk if he wanted. We can't do more." What a mess. "I may have to go help Jin in the kitchen."
"...what? Why? Do you hate Jin?" Yoongi felt that was a justified question. "He would be better off with me coming in there." Not that he ever would or would even really be able to, he was Min Yoongi after all, but still. What an idea. "If you want to get a make-out session in, just admit to it."
He had no doubt that that would be less hindering than Namjoon actually trying to give Jin a hand.
"... Okay, point." God damn it, he was not wrong. He eyed Jimin and then decided that they really did have to do work so he tried to redirect focus. Hard but needed. "Look, we should focus on numbers. I just need you to improve this. We've entirely reworked the sick pay, I got a lot of feedback from Jungkook. I think it's pretty solid."
Work was easy, they could do work. Keep their heads down and try to be fine with what happened. "I want to take some from these people but you really need to look it over and tell me which deserves to lose and which doesn't."
"Yeah." Wait, what? Right, focus. Yoongi's heart was beating up to his chest and he had to force himself to not look over at Jimin again. Jimin, who was sitting alone and likely felt awful for several different reasons, some of them directly his fault. Who cared about numbers right now?
He supposed he had to. He took a sip from his drink and looked down at the papers Namjoon was showing him, picking up a pencil to circle a few of the names. "They haven't delivered as of late and they know I don't like them much, so you can take from them, they'll roll over and take it. Just try to get back in my good graces."
His tactic was working. Yoongi frowned suddenly, lowering his voice. "Namjoon. The Dark Dragons do human trafficking. They do it by proxy, but I'm sure of it. All those girls from Thailand."
"Good idea. I was thinking of taxing these guys a bit higher, they don't treat their workers well though and I don't want to make it worse. Maybe we can take directly from the men at the top." He was very conscious of workers suffering because of what they did. The men in charge, he liked to watch them squirm and lose cash, not the people just trying to earn a living.
He frowned and looked up, nodding his head a little. "So I've heard. I'm pretty sure that's their main gig. They traffic humans, do prostitution and all the other shit we won't touch."
There was a market for it, after all. "Why does that matter?"
"Yeah, I prefer that. Everyone should know by now that I give bonuses when their men are treated well, but old habits die hard." And some assholes were just insistent on staying assholes. He was sure that Cheon guy was like that too.
"It matters because Jimin shouldn't be dating him. You think someone like that treats anyone decently?" Evidently not. Couldn't he just make them break up? Maybe he could call in a favour with Hobi. Was that insane? Yeah, probably. "I could ask Hobi to make them break up."
"Come on, if he was that dangerous, Hobi would have at least advised or tried already. The guy isn't a total dick, even if he runs against us. If Jimin is with Cheon then ... he's with him. We can't do anything about that." If he loved a jerk, he loved a jerk. What could they do about that? He just had to live with it. "Besides, you can't ask for anything from Hobi."
As much as Namjoon thought Hobi was a fine enough guy, bit weird and scary but plenty fine, he knew that even mixing with him would make everyone think they'd gone weak and soft. It wasn't an option.
"I know this will hurt to hear and I hate to be the one to say it but Jimin has nothing to do with you now. You broke up." And that meant he had no say in his life.
"You think I don't know that?" Of course he knew that. He just didn't want to accept it. He didn't want to let go of Jimin and being mere feet from him, knowing he was unhappy, how was he supposed to get over that? Yoongi got himself under control, knowing that he couldn't show emotion. They were in public, he was Min Yoongi.
He wished he could be Suga again, just for a day. He got his phone out and started busying himself with something, but focused back on Namjoon to get him off his back about it. "I don't think we should run into any trouble implementing this. We're getting where we need to be within the clan. No one would dare disrespect me and things have improved. Overall, a better life, but they still know to fear me. It's a good balance."
Namjoon didn't overly feel hungry and he didn't want to harass Jin, he debated asking to leave but he doubted Yoongi would leave until Jimin did. Settling back, he sipped his drink and looked at his boss, feel a spike of sadness. God damn it, that dick was making the most out of his smoke break, really making his boyfriend wait around.
"We should head off soon." Worth a shot. "I'll have to talk to Jin first though."
"Then go talk to Jin," Yoongi said dismissively while he finished ordering the yellow roses he had picked for Jimin, dropping any pretence of sitting here for any other reason than to keep an eye on Jimin, so to say. "We can go when I'm ready."
Hey, he still had a sip in his drink.
Cheon finally made his way back and Yoongi resisted the urge to glare at him. It'd be better if the guy didn't notice him, or he'd come over to pay his respects and then Yoongi felt he might not be able to resist the urge to shoot him.
"On it." Namjoon got up and headed over to the bar, leaning forward and talking to the waiter there. "Rough night, huh? If Jin isn't busy, ask him to come see me. I just want to say bye." He sat on a stool and waited, watching Yoongi carefully to make sure he kept his shit together.
Jimin just really wanted to leave. He wanted to ask again but he feared Cheon would make him stay longer so he just sipped his drink and tried not to look behind him. "Did you enjoy your smoke?"
"He says he's never too busy for you." The waiter grinned at Namjoon, knowing that Jin preferred the tactic of constantly reminding his lover that he was very, very busy, but hey. "I'll go get him."
"Eh. Did you stop looking like you are about to cry?" Cheon felt it was a fair question to ask, because he didn't come here to hang out with a crybaby. All over dropping a glass, seriously?
"Aww, so cute. Thanks. I'll wait." Namjoon grinned, knowing that Jin was busy but he had time. They couldn't leave until Jimin and Cheon left anyway so here they were, just loitering around like they had nowhere better to be.
"No, I won't. Like I said, I'm really sorry." Jimin plastered on his best smile, just wanted to get through this and leave. He tried a different tactic and reached out, covering Cheon's hand with his own. "I'll make it up to you. I didn't mean to make such a mess of dinner."
The waiter walked off quickly and it really wasn't much later that Jin appeared, even coming around the bar so he could stand next to Namjoon, brushing shoulders. Anything more wasn't exactly appropriate in the middle of his workplace. "Is there a problem?" He knew something was bothering Yoongi, which meant that Namjoon was bothered too. That was how it worked, even back when Yoongi had been Suga.
"It's fine." Cheon took Jimin's hand in his and offered him a smile, not wanting to be too hard on him. For one thing, he didn't really want a scene in public. That would be very hard to explain to Hobi, should he ever get wind of it. He knew he had to be more careful with Jimin, that was part of the fun. "You still look very sweet at least."
"No problem but I gotta go soon. We were supposed to be in a meeting but we won't go until they go." Just to clarify. He nodded his head straight forward and then shrugged his shoulder. "The boy is Yoongi's ex, don't tell anyone. It's kind of a secret but ... yeah, this has been rough." He knew he could rely on Jin to keep it on the down low. Even the bar staff around them would.
"I do? It's probably thanks to you. You have good taste." Cheon dressed him today, his other outfit was too idiotic. Like he was trying to hide his beautiful body. Sometimes, it was just easier to let Cheon pick. "Do you have to work tonight? Maybe we can do back to yours and have fun." He didn't feel like it, he didn't want Cheon around right now but anything to leave this place.
"Oh. His ex, seriously?" That made no sense and Jin kept his voice down. "He's with the Jung family, that's... Wait. You mean he was dating him while he was Suga?" What a mess that was and he didn't even know the details yet. "Oh boy." That did explain the mood Yoongi seemed to be in. He reached for Namjoon's hand, giving it a squeeze. "Sorry you have to deal with that."
"I have to work, but I can move it to later if you got the time. Always nice when you're in the mood." Cheon didn't mind going for it when Jimin wasn't in the mood yet, he could talk him into it, but he wasn't about to complain about him being eager. "We should get going, huh? Is that why you wanted to leave? You should have said."
