"Do I look very glowing to you?" Minjun smirked, shaking his head, joking around while he tried to think of a good way to describe it. "It's nothing physical. It's just... You look at them and it pulls at you? It's painful, really. First time I saw him, I almost started to cry."
That would have been nice and embarrassing. "And touching him, being that close, it felt right, but also not enough. I didn't want there to be any space between us, you know? Not in any way. But there was so much, because he doesn't even know. I couldn't stay that long, it hurt too much. To be with him, but not have him."
"So how do the government know when you're together? Like I'm with you and they dunno if we're soulmates or not." They weren't but he was just curious. Mostly wanting to help Minjun avoid getting caught and enlisted. Or, worse, getting his bae into danger and losing him. He really didn't want him getting hurt in any way.
"I guess it doesn't become obvious unless you do magic but -- maybe you could just not do magic and date him?" Seemed like a better option, honestly. If they could get away with it. "You could save revolution for your next lifetime."
"They can only know if you let them know, you are right." Minjun glanced at Sangwoo, smiling sweetly. "You are cute." He knew that Sangwoo didn't want him to go through with his plans. He could understand it even. But it was exactly that... "Sang-ah, wouldn't you want your next life to be in a better place? That's what I want. For everyone's sake."
Minjun leaned back and shrugged his shoulders. "I know I'll probably not survive it, but that's what it takes to change the world. I'm ready for that."
"I dunno. I don't think it's worth your life. I mean, look, I know I'm as low as it gets and I did jackshit to be this low but I'm happy. Believe it or not." He had Minjun, cheap beer and an apartment. Sure, the mark marred his life, made it near impossible to date or get a better job but he was content. He didn't ask for a lot and that was enough for him.
"I wouldn't be so happy if my friend offed it so... you know. Just saying, you don't have to be the hero all the time. It's okay, society sucks. Can't you just accept it?" He knew the answer but he still wished it could be another way.
Minjun moved over to rest his head on Sangwoo's shoulder. He closed his eyes and thought about the picture Gyungho had drawn, the picture that was supposed to be him. That kind of man wouldn't ever hesitate from his conviction. Dangerous, wild, all of that. He wished he didn't know about the voice inside him that wanted to just let it be, the way Sangwoo was saying. He knew now that whatever he'd have to do, he'd have to do it alone. Of course he felt some hesitation, because he wasn't just that drawing.
But it was what he aspired to. What he thought was needed. "I'll find you in the next life too, Sang-ah."
"You're such a dumbass." He supposed there was no going back. He just needed to find a way to help him. He had some magic, he could use it. "I'll fight alongside you, magic or no magic. I don't care." He didn't think he had a soulmate and if he did, he doubted they ever wanted to meet him. The way he was? Anyone could do way, way better.
"You won't die without me, you selfish jerk." He wouldn't let it happen. "Just tell me when and where, I'll be there."
"I will. I have to think still. Make plans. It was a lot easier when I didn't daydream about him constantly." Minjun shook his head. Maybe seeking out Gyungho had been a mistake for them both, but the power he had unlocked? He couldn't deny that would come in very handy. "I almost hope it happens to you too, just so you can stop rolling your eyes at me. Wonder what your soulmate would be like. Are you certain you haven't had dreams?"
"Not really... I mean, yeah, I have wet dreams about hot boys but like, it's not my soulmate or anything. I don't think I have one and if I do, I bet he'd want to avoid me." Just saying. No one wanted to get stuck with him, he was bad for everyone. "Only you're dumb enough to hang out with me, you fucking idiot. I never got why you did."
But he'd never cared. He didn't know why, he just never did. "You're crazy, Jun-ah. I bet your soulmate is too."
