"I'm not a traitor! Did you not see how much I suck at poker? Why would I set myself up like that?" Of course this was scary, of course, but Minjun knew he had to ride this out. He couldn't just give in, he couldn't let Kangwoo see it as that black and white. He had to make him see the truth about Cheon, at least begin to doubt him. "I haven't talked to the Min Clan. I've talked to Jimin, the person that Cheon is holding captive in there. And that's how I know that Cheon has been using Jimin against the Min Clan. I don't think he's bothered to tell you about it."
"It's blackmail. I know the gist. You think I'm that ignorant? You talk about me like I'm an idiot." And it was starting to bother him. "I'm the one who noticed Hoseok was stealing our business and I asked him to handle it." And if that means was sending a whore then he did it. He just didn't know that the reason Hoseok was getting all their whores was because he was paying them and they weren't. He rubbed at his temple and the world got too much, too loud, too everything. He fought through his meltdown to keep it together.
"Jimin is Cheon's issue, he's not mine! I don't care what Cheon does. He's my friend! And at least I know he's loyal."
"You told me that you don't mess with the Min Clan. So excuse me for assuming that you actually don't." Minjun could see the frustration in Kangwoo and he sighed. Loyal? He didn't think Cheon was all that loyal. "I'm sorry, hyung. I know it's stressful, all you have to handle."
And all he had just learned. "I understand now why you think it's dangerous to mess with the Min Clan."
"It's-- things are always hard. I-- Cheon handles some stuff I wouldn't really like to do. He's essential for that reason alone." He stole people for him or attacked people on his behalf, blackmailed and killed. For him. Right? Why else would he do it? Just like the money. He was sure he was going to get it back... right? He just -- he didn't know. It was hard to find about.
"I'm going home." Kangwoo huffed and turned away from Minjun. "You coming?"
"Of course I'm coming." Minjun hurried until he was next to Kangwoo and then he brushed shoulders with him, for just a moment. "Hyung, do you remember when we were little and we went to the store or when we were on the beach and got ice cream and all that? Do you remember at all?"
He had a point to make, but he wanted the affirmation first.
"I don't forget much. I have a good memory." So yes. Kangwoo put his hands in his pockets and made some distance from Minjun. He didn't like to get too close to anyone, really. Sometimes people won him over but that was mostly just people like Jin - he had a way that just made touch pleasant and welcoming. His heart ached a little. "Why?"
"Because I used to do things for you too. Talk to people. Answer questions. Make sure you got the ice cream scoops in the order you wanted them in and with the right colour spoon." Anything for his hyung, Minjun had always wanted to keep Minjun from having to be upset. "So I can do stuff for you now too. I'm sorry I upset you today, hyung, but I need to understand things. Get to know people. You know me. I was always like that too."
"You did like to talk more." Abeoji always said it was because he was a retard who couldn't just learn to talk like a normal kid. He most made noises and pointed. Right up until he was six, he'd point and whine until he got what he wanted. "It's funny because I was the hyung but abeoji always said I should be more like you. And then suddenly, I should be nothing like you." He balled his hands up into a fist, tense at the memory.
"You didn't upset me, I don't get upset." He did. Clearly. "You embarrassed me."
"I embarrassed Cheon, mostly. And I get that you like Cheon a lot, he's your best friend. But he did some stuff he shouldn't have kept from you, so he got angry at me. That is upsetting. But it's only embarrassing for him, not you." Minjun put his hands in his pockets, feeling a bit cold. Really should have brought a jacket. "I love you, hyung. I really do. That's why I want to work with you, not against you."
"I don't love. I can't." That's what he always heard and that's how he felt. He didn't feel connected to anyone or anything. Not even Jin. He just always felt odd and off, he couldn't understand people at all. "I can't feel." Well. "I can feel anger pretty easily." Kangwoo smiled a little, unable to help it. He only ever felt angry or unhappy. "Cheon was upset and angry, that reflects onto me. Right? So we work together. We feel the same." When Cheon was embarrassed, he was too... or so it seemed.
"Of course you love, Kangwoo. Come on. I'm not saying that you love me, but you can love. You do love. You love your brothers. You don't always show your love well, but that's a different matter." Sometimes Minjun wondered whether showing Kangwoo the diagnosis would be good or bad. He just wasn't sure. "Come on, Kangwoo. Imagine right now, someone taking your brothers away. Someone hurting Kangwoo. You want them safe and with you, because you love them. That's why TaeTae smiling makes you feel so much."
"I think they're okay." Kangwoo was willing to share. "Tae is way better now he likes Star Wars." But he didn't want to admit anything about love. He stopped at the car and leaned against it, giving Minjun a look. "I would protect them because I'm the hyung. And I want to do it. Baeks do that... I'll protects you too. Even if you piss me off and I might kill you myself eventually."
"I know. You are a good hyung. You always were to me anyway and now you are to your brothers too." Minjun moved forward and hugged his hyung, just holding on to him for a little bit. "I love you and I want to make sure your interests and reputation are protected. I'm sorry that means pissing off Cheon sometimes."
"It's gross and weird when you hug me." He pushed Minjun back and gave him a look before, admittedly playfully, slapping his cheek a little. "Stop being so soft." That was what got people killed. He opened the door for him and gestured for him to enter. "Go on and stop telling me you love me, you weirdo."
