It wasn't the first time Tae had woken up, he was in and out of it every now and again, but his awareness level was very questionable, something probably not helped by the meds. So when he woke up once more and this time realised that he was in a hospital and that something must have happened to bring him here, he looked around, eyes landing on Namjoon.
"Where's Jimin?" Was Jimin safe? Priorities still the same as always.
"He's okay, he's fine. He fell asleep so I sent him home. He's barely left your side, he's going to hate me for sending him off." Namjoon smiled as he came in close. He'd spoken to Tae a few times but mostly he never remembered it. They said that Tae was going to be fine, the swelling had gone down and now it was mostly recovery and rest. Him being awake and alert was such a good sigh.
"Everyone is fine, you're the last one to wake up. As always. Lazy Tae."
"I'm not lazy. You are dumb." Not exactly the most spirited comeback, but his head hurt and so did his left thumb, a lot. He looked down to check on his hands, remembering dislocating his thumbs to accomplish pretty much nothing. He was not in any hurry to repeat that trick, it was a lot easier to read about than do himself.
"What happened? When are we?" ...wait. "I mean. How much time passed? Not that we time travelled. I'm guessing."
"South Seoul Hospital. It's been a week, you've been very in and out. You're a lucky bastard, they almost put you in an induced coma but I was like nah, my boy is a fighter and you proved me right." It had been a fifty-fifty shot and they weren't sure but Namjoon was. He knew that Tae was going to be fine. He just had faith in him. "I've never been more proud of you. I hope you remember me saying it this time cause I am, yeah?"
He knew that often Tae forgot or just passed out during but he seemed a lot more alert. "And I'm sorry we didn't time travel and nothing exciting happened while you were out. Well, no, Yoongi got a new hat. That was kind of exciting." It was cute on him.
Tae smiled a very goofy smile when Namjoon told him that he was proud of him, although after a few seconds he frowned instead, debating how much he was deserving of anybody being proud of him.
"What colour?" The hat, obviously. "Did he buy it himself?"
He hoped Jimin bought him a hat instead, because he could only imagine the kind of hats Jimin would pick out for someone he insisted was as cute as a puppy.
"It's yellow and it has kitty ears. Jimin got it, obvious. I love Jimin so much." He only saw Yoongi wearing it once but he was hoping it'd become a thing. He really liked the idea of that being their gang's 'thing'. Maybe they could become the Seoul Kitty-Cats.
Namjoon sat back down and moved his book aside so he could properly focus on Tae.
"We didn't kill the kid. Didn't seem right but, uh, Yoongi is meeting him today so we'll see how that all goes down." Given Hobi was claiming him, he was sure he was living. "But we said you and Jimin got a say in that so if you're not okay with it, we'll talk it over."
"...so, did you actually see Suga wear that hat or did Jimin just send a picture?" Because it was a hard thing to imagine actually happening in public.
"I don't know. Ten wasn't the one that punched me." He thought for a moment. "I'd have preferred that, he doesn't look as strong." If he had to choose between what beating to receive anyway. Tae tried to feel his own face, wondering just how messed up he looked. Wondering whether there was permanent damage and a little too afraid to ask.
"I shouldn't have gone with him. Definitely not with Jimin. It's just... I saw his wrists and thought maybe Hobi was hurting him." Which would explain why he didn't want to party right there. "I put it together by now."
"I saw a picture. Jimin sent it out before I think Yoongi deleted it. I assume it was him. Either way, he may have deleted it but the image is in my mind forever." And he would never, ever let Yoongi live it down. He might die because of it but he didn't care.
Leaning back in his chair, he considered the situation and hell, he got it. "If you thought Hobi was hurting Ten, you should have talked to me. I could have assured you it wasn't the case."
Hobi did tend to hurt the people he slept with but he didn't do what Cheon did. Those marks he saw on Ten, that was just straight up abuse. "Ten was very damaged by Cheon. I'm sure you worked that one out by now. We don't blame him but you're allowed to be pissed at him and you're allowed to want revenge, if you do."
"I don't know how I feel. Maybe I'll know when I see him." It was a hard thing to gauge. He had felt protective of Ten a little and he still did, but Ten was also the one who had gotten them into this mess. "He reminds me of Jimin sometimes."
But only sometimes. He had no idea what it would be like to actually see Ten again after all this. "...what happened after I passed out? I sent you messages, I remember that."
"We got in there, we took down Cheon and drove him off to a warehouse. We're ending him. Slowly." Namjoon wasn't involved, he couldn't do it, even with a monster like Cheon. Yoongi and Hobi could, Kookie too, they took great joy in it - even if it was painful in some respects too. "Jimin was fine, he used him as a hostage but we neutralised Cheon before he could do anything. He went home that night with Yoongi, just a little bit of shock and his ear to contend with."
He knew that Tae wanted to know the most about Jimin so he tried to focus on that.
"Ten woke up and tried to leave on the second day. Which was a mess because we had to argue with a nurse to get him discharged." He wanted to leave, the hospital insisted on counselling and Namjoon had to step in to negotiate. As always. "He went home with Hobi, I'm sure you know what his injuries were. Everyone is recovering well. You're the last one left to heal, everyone has been so worried."
"Okay." He supposed that was good, on the whole. Such a mess, but good. He was glad Jimin was all right. If he was well enough to make his boyfriend wear kitty hats, he couldn't be that badly off and that was what mattered the most to him. Ten was a different matter. He still remembered hearing... It was the last thing he remembered before passing out. Could have been Jimin.
A nightmare indeed. He didn't think he could be too mad at Ten, not after all of that.
"Am I healing? I mean... How bad is it?" He frowned, touching the side of his face. "Am I still cute?"
"You're still adorable." Namjoon teased as he leaned in and pretended to inspect it before nodding approvingly. "Nothing too bad. You're just bruised. Most of the damage went to the back of your head, hence why we all freaked out so much. Your face isn't so bad." It wasn't great but damn, it could have been worse. He reached out and playfully touched the least bruised part of his face, smiling playfully. "I could pinch this cheek. You're lucky I don't."
He knew Tae had been through a trauma so he wanted to take it easy with him, play around a little and have some fun.
"You're a hero, Tae. You know that, yeah? I don't care if you think it's your fault, it wasn't. You saved Jimin and you put others above yourself. You're brave and I wasn't lying before. I could not be prouder." Jimin owed Tae his life. Even Yoongi had been pleased. "I got you a present."
"Yeah, he kind of banged my head against the wall when he hit me. I was trying to stay away from it, but my thumbs hurt." Also he was about a quarter of Cheon's size, if that, but Tae decided blaming his thumbs was slightly more badass. He held his cheek protectively, smiling a little before frowning again.
"I'm always going to keep Jimin safe. Even if it wasn't for Min Yoongi." Which he supposed he didn't really have to clarify, they had all seen proof of that. He was smiling once more, although now he also looked curious. "What did you get me? ...it's not a book, right?"
"Oh please, like any of you kids read any more. I swear, the literacy of your generation. Not even Kookie reads and he was top of his class." Namjoon ranted like the bitter old man he was, crouching down and pulling out a gift box. It was beautiful, sleek and black - the perfect gift for Tae inside. "I chose it with Jimin while waiting for you to recover and I purchased it. Yoongi handled the shipping and taxes. It's a thank you from us and a way of saying how much we appreciate you."
He opened the box for Tae and held it out, at a distance, so he could see it. It was not just a new gun, it was gold, shiny and looked cool as hell. They put so much effort into picking the perfect gun for him. "We'll train you up on it. I need you in the field more with me. I need brave men like you."
"Just make Suga hand Jungkook a book. He'd read a phone book if Suga handed it to him." Tae was just saying. He was fairly sure that Jungkook would only ask 'how high' if Suga asked him to jump. Not that he blamed him, but still.
Tae watched the box curiously, his eyes widening when Namjoon opened it. He tried to sit up, but regretted that quickly. Right, he got hit in the stomach. So he stayed where he was, resisting the urge to ask to hold it. He couldn't use his thumbs properly, he was fairly sure that disqualified him from gun-holding. Namjoon's words and the sentiment behind them brought tears to his eyes, so he pressed his lips together and swallowed.
"It's way cooler than Jungkook's." Because that was the important thing here.
"I hope so, I spent a fucking fortune on this." Well, he had no boyfriend and no other expenses, this was worth it to see Tae smile and look like that. He closed the box and set it down gently on the side, not wanting him to hold it until he could actually hold it. "I told Kookie about it and he sent this, by the way."
He pulled out his phone, scrolled through his messages and held it up for him. There was a picture of his new gun captioned 'for Taetae!' and Jungkook's reply.
he earned it but i'm still jealous. gdi :|
"You're gonna be the envy of the gang, kid. Especially when we get you firing that baby."
"Whoa." V wished he was better at estimating cost and such things, so he could properly appreciate everything, but he supposed he could ask Jungkook later, he didn't want to seem ignorant in front of Namjoon. "Thank you, hyung."
He didn't even attempt to bow, too much pain and he was hooked up to things and he didn't want to make a mess. "It was easy to be brave, I was sure he'd kill me anyway. But I'm really glad he didn't kill me."
Tae tried not to think too much about that. He was pretty used to being the expendable one, but it had never been so clear to him as in the situation Cheon put them all in. "I'm glad I'm still alive so I can make you use up your money, hyung."
"I'm glad you're alive because I like you. I was so freaked out when I thought you could be dead. Who'd annoy me then?" Namjoon reached out and gently place a hand on Tae's shoulder, already worrying a little about so many aspects of his recovery. "I think you should come home with me while you recover, especially since Jimin moved out. I don't want you alone. I have all the stuff kids like these days. I have a PS4, X-Box one, wifi and soda."
He waved his hand around vaguely, dismissive. "I also have books." He doubted Tae would be as interested as he was but that was just the burden he had. Being literate.
"When can I use my thumbs again? Cause that's kinda tied in with how interesting I find your books." Well, at least he was going for honesty. Mostly he liked the thought, because being home alone right now... He didn't fancy that all that much. He could deal, but it was pretty great to be offered an alternative.
"I'm okay with that. Since you need to be annoyed." He smiled a little. "Thank you, Namjoon-hyung. I think I need to go back to sleep, is that okay?"
"You have to rest it for six weeks but they should be usable in two weeks. If you're careful." And that meant actually being careful and not using it excessively when the time came. Of course, they'd discuss that more later. He smiled and nodded, pulling Tae's blanket up a little for him.
"It's always okay. Go, sleep. I'll be here when you wake up. I'm going nowhere, I got my boring books." He sat back down, picked up a book and opened it. "Sleep."

After all, Ten did drug and screw them over.
