Jungkook had been up on and off for about a week now but today, he felt awake enough to move a little. He reached up and pulled down his oxygen mask, coughing a little as he breathed on his own, feeling more capable than he had last time. He looked at Yoongi, sleeping in the chair next to him, wonder if he was doing all right.
Yoongi wasn't always a light sleeper, but when in an hospital, on a very uncomfortable chair, waiting for his boy to wake up? Oh yes. He sat up very quickly, pushing the hair back from his face, his shades still on, scooting over to be closer to Jungkook. Only then did his brain catch up properly to the question Jungkook had asked.
"...seriously? You are the one in a hospital, hooked up to five different machines and you're asking me if I'm okay?"
He tsked and shook his head. "Put that breathing mask back on, you need more oxygen. How are you doing?"
"The mask itches." Jungkook didn't put it back on, stubborn that he was. He did drop back down from an aborted attempt to sit up through, lying still and just looking around. He was hooked up to a lot of stuff right now. He tilted his head back and looked at his IV, frowning a little. "I dunno. Feels like a dream, I don't hurt... shouldn't I hurt? I got shot."
That was the drugs, working just fine.
"Is everyone okay? Is my dad okay? I don't want to scare anyone." Of course he did. Jungkook was a perfectionist, he hated anything that could count as a failing and he hated to let anyone down.
"Your dad is fine. I sent him home so he could sleep in a proper bed, these chairs aren't made for anyone his age." Or anyone period, certainly not for sleeping. Yoongi rubbed the back of his neck and looked Jungkook over. "You are on pain meds. Trust me, you'd be hurting otherwise." That much was a given. "You are expected to make a full recovery."
He had only gotten that diagnosis out of a doctor a little earlier this evening, but he was certainly holding on to it. "I expect you to make a full recovery."
"I will, don't worry. I want to. I don't like missing work." Even when he was sick, Jungkook dragged himself to bed. Hell, he used to haul his sad, pathetic body to work when he had the flu or lost his voice. He was not one to miss a day. "I should have been more careful, maybe I could have dived and knocked us both down. I could have done it so much better. I didn't mean to freak everyone out."
He really wished he could have had more time to think it through but he really didn't think at all. "How did the stand off go? I didn't get to see it."
"Jungkook. Both Hobi and Namjoon agreed that you saved me. It was the only way and you did it. I owe you my life. Stop deriding that. That's an order." Mostly he wanted to stop thinking about it at all, but obviously that wasn't an option. "You should think more about what you want as your reward. I owe you for this."
Yoongi leaned back, crossing his arms lightly. "We won. We got all of them except the man who shot you, but he's a dead man walking. We'll track him down."
"As a reward? Huh... you could finally sit down and watch a movie with me." Jungkook talked about what he watched all the time and Yoongi stayed indifferent. Well this time, he could make him care. Just a little bit. With a smug little smile, Jungkook laughed weakly and coughed again, pulling up the mask to take some oxygen in. Damn, laughing was hard. "I dunno, boss. You always hit a home run with my gifts. I like your taste and your judgement."
He'd been trying to copy both all of his life.
"The guy who shot me escaped? Bastard." That wasn't fair. "We'll get him, Yoongi."
"I'll make the time." He certainly didn't have the time, but who cared. Right now, he'd have promised Jungkook a trip to Disneyland if he had asked for it. He frowned when he coughed, worried and wondering if he should alert someone that Jungkook was awake, but finally he just nodded his head. "I already have something in mind for you. I want people to know that I'm proud of you." If he had to deck him out head to toe for that, he'd do it. He knew it meant a lot to Jungkook after all.
"Cheon. That's the guy. We are honing in on him. He's the same guy Tae was protecting Jimin from when you beat him up. Nasty asshole all around."
"I bet Tae and Jimin are thrilled to be able to be outside, huh?" They were such whiny brats about being locked up. He found them amusing in some ways, they had a carefree way of being that in some ways, he really envied. He wished he could be a bit like that, he just forgot how. He was too busy being the best to have that much fun. "Hopefully we'll get Cheon, I want to, ah, make him suffer."
He moved to sit up and pulled his wound, sinking back down and wincing. Nope, not ready yet. "I'm okay, I'm okay. Just testing."
"We'll get him and you can help make him suffer. He's a popular guy, even Namjoon wants to hurt him." Not surprising, between him shooting their Jungkook and how attached Namjoon was to Tae and Jimin. "The word is out. People know I want him." And he made it a habit to get what he wanted. Yoongi reached out to put a hand on Jungkook's shoulder, gently but insistently keeping him down.
"Tae and Jimin are working at Hobi's place. Haven't been there since they started, but I assume it's going well." He hadn't really been anywhere, any free moment he had was spent here. But Jungkook didn't need to know that.
"Namjoon wanting to kill someone? Man, you know they're a dick. He's always Mr Peaceful when it comes to conflict." Well, physical conflict. He could argue non stop if he wanted to but he couldn't pick a fight with just about anyone. Barring, apparently, this guy. "I don't get why he's so attached to those punks but that's Joonie, you know?"
Of course he wanted to help and take care of them. It was very Namjoon.
"You should go there, make sure they haven't trash the place. Get a drink for me." He wanted Yoongi to get out and have fun. To stop feeling bad about this. "You don't need to be here."
"I'm not just hanging out here. But I promised your father I would tonight, so shut up about it." It was a lot more time than he'd normally have for anyone, but he didn't care. This wasn't normal and while he couldn't put that into words, he could certainly act accordingly. "We are going to go after their club in a few days. Namjoon is getting me the blue prints. You are going to plan the operation with me, I want to avoid any casualties other than the pigs."
Which meant a lot of planning was necessary, but all the better. He wanted Jungkook to have a way to occupy his mind.
"I get to help plan it?" Jungkook had done that before a few times but it was rare and usually for training. This was a proper big time operation and his eyes lit up at the idea of getting to play a hand in it. His excitement bubbled and he couldn't help the smile on his face. "That'd be so cool, hyung! I can't wait. I want to screw them over so bad, we deserve their club. They're such scumbags."
And they shot him! He was kind of taking that personal.
"They know they are in deep shit for hurting you." And Yoongi wanted to ensure that Jungkook knew that too. That he knew that Yoongi was taking it personally, not because they had tried to shoot him, but because Jungkook had gotten hurt. His golden boy. He wanted to make sure people knew how important Jungkook was and he definitely wanted to show what would happen to anyone who hurt him. "We'll wipe them out. Take over their territory and their businesses."
Maybe Jungkook would want a club to run? Whatever, he could ask him some time.
Jungkook smiled and reached out his hand, wanting Yoongi to hold it. He looked at the other, a mixture of sadness and excitement, so many feelings and he just wanted to cry all over again. He really wasn't a crier though. "I didn't get to say it properly before but... I love you, hyung. Thank you for always having my back, I'll keep on trying to have yours."
There was no one he cared about more than Yoongi and Namjoon. They were his idols, they were all he wanted to be like and imitate. "You're the best boss I could ask for."
"I love you too." Yoongi said it and squeezed Jungkook's hand and he smiled briefly, wishing that he could tell him how he really felt, tell him that he never wanted him to do something like that again. But he knew he couldn't do that, so he just held his hand and sighed. "Go back to sleep, Kookie. I'll tell your father and Namjoon that you're doing better. Namjoon's been crying his eyes out."
"Tell them not to worry. I love them and I'm happy. I did the best I could." He smiled and closed his eyes, content to sleep away the time and not get too worked up. Soon he'd be better, then he could start moving. Until then, he put the mask back on and lay back, ready to fall back asleep.
