"That's true." Since Jungkook's whispering was way too loud, Yoongi knew he had to address it right away. "They will come home with me instead, if that's all right with Jiho and Tae." He had no idea where it would go from there, but he knew he couldn't separate them. They were too attached to each other.
He watched as his eomma fed Jiho and smiled. Yeah, he definitely couldn't break these brothers apart. "My place is near the school, so it would be good, yes?"
"You have to tell him to clean up more. Yoon-ah is a good cook though, he will take care of you." Eomma nodded her approval. "And I will come visit." She had just decided, even more so when Yoongi looked like he wanted to protest.
"I can stay with you? What about ... about my appa?" He was his appa, after all. Did he have to see him again? He didn't know if it was a good idea to leave his appa but he did hurt TaeTae a lot. He really didn't want to have to go back. "Are you sure you want us?" Kangwoo always said no one else would want them.
They were too annoying. No one wanted brats.
He finished half a kimbap and set it down, not really hungry and a bit stressed again because everything was changing and he felt anxious. He bit his lower lip and looked over at Tae. "I have to ask Tae first. We have to -- to talk about everything."
"Of course he wants you. You are such good boys. I want you! Yoongi is just lucky he saw you first." His mother smiled a little and just petted Jiho's head. "I'm sure you and Taehyung can discuss it all when he wakes up. There is no hurry, you are safe now."
"She's right. You are definitely safe." Yoongi nodded his head, hugging Jungkook a little tighter. It hurt his heart to see how worried Jiho was. Maybe he could make him think about something else? "Jungkookie, Jiho is one of my best students. He's really, really good at piano."
"He's the one that doesn't make you wanna cry. Yoongi always got sad after teaching cause his students sucked! I don't suck. I'll play piano soon." Jungkook smiled brightly, excited by the idea of being able to play piano with his hyung. "I have a special piano and I'm great at it!" It was a toy piano that played music when he pressed a button so he could pretend play along.
Jiho smiled, Jungkook had such a sweet smile, he looked a bit like Tae in that respect. Jungkook got up and bowed to his new hyung, saying hello properly cause eomma taught him well. Jiho bowed back wincing as he did so. "Nice to meet you, Jungkook-ah."
"Don't bow right now, Jiho! You are hurt." Yoongi looked concerned, shaking his head before looking at Jungkook. "Jungkook is my brother. He's a lot younger than me, because my parents missed me so much they needed a new son."
"We realised that we had to give it another try after watching how you grew up," his mother suggested, smiling and still petting Jiho's hair. "Hmm, if you stay with Yoongi in the end, you and Taehyung will be like my grandsons. I'll be a really young looking grandmother, right?"
"You look pretty." Jiho told her. He liked that she looked like an eomma and she gave good hugs. He had so many hugs lately. He felt so loved. His heart almost hurt. He smiled a little and looked over at Tae, hoping he woke up soon and got some eomma hugs too. He needed them. These past few days were such a nightmare, he really wanted Tae to wake up and smile at him, to hug him and show him that everything was okay.
"I'll be an uncle?"
Jungkook's eyes lit up. He grinned and looked up at Yoong, bouncing. "I'm an uncle, hyung. That means I have to be TaeTae and Jiho's hyung cause I'm an uncle. I'm realllllly big."
"An uncle, huh? Then you have to play with them and buy them presents." Yoongi laughed and smiled at Jungkook, amused by him. "And uncles are really big, so they always brush their teeth properly without complaining."
"That's true," their eomma agreed, going back to feeding Jiho. She had to make sure the boy ate enough, he was too skinny! "When your brother wakes up, you have to make sure not to hug him too tightly, yes? Because his ribs are hurt, you don't want to hurt him more. But you can definitely hold you. Hugs can make it so people heal faster."
Hence why she was hugging him. Ancient wisdom. "Is my son a good teacher? You can tell me if he's not, I'll scold him."
"But the tooth paste is icky! Our uncle is missing teeth so I can miss them too." Jungkook pouted as he climbed up the chair next to Yoongi, having a great time exploring the room. What a neat day out! He liked going outside.
Jiho took a bite when offers, not wanting to say not to an eomma. He chewed slowly as he thought about what she said, smiling a little to himself. "He's really good. He made me like school." He hated school before but now he had Yoongi, Jin and Namjoon. They were nice to him and they made him not feel dumb. "Yoongi can speak music."
"You are a very smart boy and you are right. I love music too, you know? I taught Yoongi how to play and maybe I get to hear you some time? You can come visit us, we have a piano." She smiled, feeling that this little boy was actually a lot like her Yoongi had been. "I hear that you are really talented, so I can't wait. I will be grateful to get to hear you."
"You'll be lucky to hear him. One-toothed uncle here will be lucky too." Yoongi grinned, tickling Jungkook's side. And then he saw from the corner of his eyes how Tae stirred and he frowned, getting up.
"Hyung?" Tae whispered it before he even opened his eyes.
Jungkook giggled and batted his hyung away, almost leaping on Yoongi to hug him, pausing when Tae stirred. Jiho was up from the bed and moving before anyone could stop him - thank God they'd taken the IV out earlier or that would have been a mess. He hurried around to Tae, crouching down by his bed. "Hyung is here!"
He reached out his hand, gently stroking Tae's hair. "You were sick so we had to go to a hospital. Yoongi-hyung brought us. My teacher."
"He has nice eyes." Jungkook mused quietly to Yoongi.
"Uh-huh. He's a pretty boy. Hobi-hyung says all the eommas that see him want to take him with them." Yoongi whispered it quietly to his brother while Tae just looked around in confusion, but quickly fixated on his hyung and then ended up in his arms, almost ripping out his own IV. He didn't care, he needed his hyung.
"Hyung, I was with eomma! She really loves us and she thinks you are the bestest hyung and you are!" He had apparently had some vivid dreams. "Hyung! I don't like appa, appa is so scary."
"I know, I know. Shhh. Hyung is here, he's here to protect you. I'm so sorry, TaeTae." He stroked Tae's hair gently and hugged him softly, climbing onto the bed and trying to keep Tae down and restrained. He didn't want to cause fuss and get them scolded. He was on edge with almost every adult here - except Yoongi and his eomma but they were different. He could always trust an eomma and Yoongi was special.
"We don't have to see appa any more. They took him away for being a bad man. It's just us." Jiho smiled at him. "Me, you and the castle. We slayed the dragon, promise."
"They know a dragon? That's so cool. Is it like Toothless?" Jungkook asked his hyung, not getting the metaphor.
"Nah, I don't think so. I think they mean their appa, you know? Because their appa is like a monster." Yoongi still kept his voice down, not wanting to make the situation more difficult. Luckily Jiho had been right about his brother being 'mostly a good kid', because instead of throwing a tantrum, Tae quieted down, simply wrapping his arms around his hyung and sniffing quietly a few times.
"Do we have to live alone now?" Cause that was also a scary thought. But better than appa.
"Aww, sweet boy. Here, you need some food." Yoongi's mother handed the box with kimpab to Jiho. "Can you feed him? He needs strength."
"You will stay in hospital for a bit, TaeTae, but then you and your brother will go home with me. If you want to." Yoongi smiled. "We can make it work." He really had to tell Namjoon.
"We can stay with Yoongi, he'll be nice and take care of us so we don't even have to be apart, yeah? As long as we're together, we can do this. We got this." He smiled at Tae and took the kimbap, gently helping Tae sit up and letting him hang onto him, knowing he was scared. He got it, he'd been scared too. It was a lot. "Yoongi's eomma made us kimbap. It's so tasty."
He showed Tae and then he made some airplane noises like he always did when Tae was reluctant to eat. "You gotta open the hanger or where will the plane go?"
Hopefully it'd work.
Jungkook kicked his legs playfully as he watched, turning his head to look up at Yoongi. He wanted airplane food. Why did Yoongi never do that for him? "I wanna eat a plane."
"You sound like Godzilla," Yoongi informed him drily, while also holding up his hands. "I have no food!" What was he supposed to do, feed him air?"
Tae opened his mouth and then chewed, a little less bouncily than usual, looking around the room and trying to figure everyone out. He didn't know the little boy, but he always liked little boys, so he wasn't scared of him.
Instead he took a piece of kimbap and tried to sit up so he could hold it out to Jungkook, making sounds that could be interpreted as airplane sounds. In Tae's head it was a UFO though.
Jungkook soon scampered over, struggling to climb up the bed but being really careful, getting a big bite of the airplane and giggling. He knew the food wasn't for him but he liked that it had airplane noises. It felt special. He chewed and swallowed, beaming at Tae. "Hi, I'm Jungkook. Eomma calls me Kookie!"
"Say hello, TaeTae, he's ... He's your uncle. Somehow." This was weird. "He's Yoongi's little brother."
"I'll take care of you." The youngest boy insisted, smiling at Tae and then petting his head. "Do you want to snuggle Dooly tonight? He can stay with you cause he's special and he gives good hugs."
"I'm too old for toys," Tae told Jungkook very seriously while looking hurt enough to have to lie back down and clinging to his brother's shirt with one hand, unwilling to let go of him entirely. Yoongi almost awed out loud.
"You are not too old," he quickly assured him, "I have toys at home too and I'm waaaay older."
"Toys are good company," his mother agreed, smiling, "You two don't have any toys, huh? Look at that, Jungkookie. These two have nothing and you whine that you want more and don't put away what you have."
"I don't know why I gotta put away my dinosaurs. They like to roam a lot. That's what dinos do." Jungkook protested as he slipped off the bed and towards his backpack to get Dooly. He pulled out Dooly and said a grand goodbye to him, giving him a big hug. Tae had no toys so he needed Dooly more than him. Even if he adored Dooly. He approached Tae and set Dooly next to him. "Be careful with Dooly, he's only a baby."
"We'll be very careful." Jiho promised as he stroked Tae's hair and stayed close to him. He leaned in close and kissed the top of Tae's head. "You hurting, TaeTae? If it hurts too much, I can make it better."
"It doesn't hurt like before." It hurt a lot, but it seemed better now. He could think past it, even if he was very sleepy. Pain meds were doing their job. Tae petted Dooly, holding him with the hand that wasn't holding on to Jiho and chewing the kimbap he was fed happily. Finally he felt aware enough to smile at the eomma.
"Thank you! You make the bestest food!"
"True that," Yoongi concurred, smiling at Jiho. "We will go outside for a little bit, so you and Tae can be alone. But if you need anything, you can press this button and a nurse will come. And I won't be far away either."
He did figure that he really had to update Namjoon, before he wondered where he was. Besides, he needed information on how long these two had to stay in hospital and how things were with the father.
"Thank you, hyung. We'll press the button if we need anyone. Thank you for visiting, it means a lot to us." Jiho bowed, ignoring the pain and the warning from before because he knew he should be polite. He lay down and put an arm around Tae to prevent him from trying, not going near his chest and instead putting an arm around his stomach. "We'll be okay alone."
"Okay! Eomma, I'm hunnnnnngry." Now that they were safe and had Dooly, Jungkook wanted to whine a little. He was hungry and he had been sitting still for too long. "Appa never came back with my juice!"
"Let's find your appa and scold him," Jungkook's and Yoongi's eomma declared as they walked outside, patting her little son on the head. "And don't worry, I have some snacks for you too."
Well, she couldn't entirely neglect them. They headed to the café, but Yoongi stayed behind to talk to the nurses and hopefully find the time to text Namjoon.
Meanwhile Tae snuggled against Jiho, frowning. "Is it really going to be okay? The eomma is so nice and so is Yoongi-hyung and the little boy is sooo cute." He wanted it to be okay.
"It's going to be okay. Yoongi said he'd take care of us." And he wanted to badly to believe it, he didn't want to think it wasn't true. He lay on his side, avoiding his back, pulling Tae in to snuggle closer. "I was so scared you were going to leave me. I didn't mean to get you hurt. I'll never fail you again, I'll be a better hyung."
Hopefully. Maybe. He just didn't want to lose his TaeTae. "And I think appa is going away for a while cause he was so bad so ... it'll be better, yeah?"
"Okay. Yoongi-hyung is good, so he won't lie." Seemed obvious to him. Tae nodded his head, hugging Jiho as tightly as he could, even if it hurt. "You are the bestest hyung! It's not your fault. It's just cause appa is so bad at being an appa. Appas are supposed to be all nice! Like Jimin's and Jin's appa, right?"
He knew it, like it was on television. "We will be much better without appa. No more hurting." He hoped. He really hoped that. "And we take care of each other. Eomma wants us to, she told me!"
"She did? I hope she's okay. I miss her so much." He remembered the way she hugged him sometimes, he ached so badly to feel that again but sometimes, when Yoongi did, he felt the same. That softness, the way he held him. He was a lot like eomma sometimes. He looked at Tae, pulling him in as close as he could without squishing him.
"She said that she is really, really proud of both of us! And she always listens when you play piano, cause you are the bestest player." Tae nodded, sure that it was true, even if he made his eomma sound suspiciously much like him. "And she is always there when we hug each other, so we have to be together forever."
That was really important. "She said you are the bestest. And she will make sure appa stays far, far away." Their eomma was a hero. "And she thinks you will do really good in school, cause now appa can't yell at you! And she would never yell."
