"I mean, I know. Of course I know what goes on where I live. I live there. Unlike you, I never left." Same place as when Yoongi went, he still lived on that exact street and he'd brought a property off someone who used to know his father. He was a dodgy man but he gave him cheap rent and Namjoon paid him with cash he made doing internet security. It was cheap, small and had a lot of black mold. Probably why he had bad skin.
"I'm not looking to die. I'm looking to do what's right. I won't stop trying. I have things I have to solve, people I have to protect. I can't do that if I'm hiding." Besides, he didn't have much choice. They literally dealt outside his house, it was hard to ignore.
"I won't make a mistake again so don't worry." Why did he even worry? Left over feelings, he guessed. "I've been doing it for a long time without you around."
This was really painful and Yoongi stared down at the table. Breathing, he could breathe. It wasn't as if he was panicking, it was just a lot. A lot that he hadn't expected. Was Namjoon angry at him for leaving? As if he had had a choice in that.
As if Namjoon had even bothered saying goodbye to him. He still remembered pushing his email address into Namjoon's hand and, after that, the weeks of always booting up the slow computer they had at home, opening his email account with his heart beating up to his throat only for it to be empty or filled with weird penis enlargement spam. Yoongi really thought that he'd be over his feelings for Namjoon by now, but here he was. His heart was beating fast again. "You should move in with your brother. And you should go to the police again, if you see something. Report it. Don't do anything like that again."
He looked up, hoping to catch Namjoon's eyes. "Please."
"I like my apartment. Besides, his apartment doesn't allow pets and I have a cat. I'm not moving in with him. His house gives me a headache too." The smell of weed, incense and all those weird painted walls? He felt like a hippie there. He nodded his head a little though and wrapped his arms around himself. "I won't do anything again like that and I will report my crimes. I promise."
But no moving. He liked his apartment.
"I'm sorry that me being me still causes you such pain but I can't stop being me. If I could, I would have stopped by now." He smiled sadly and looked up at Yoongi. "Can I go now?"
"You are the one who doesn't want to see me so badly that you couldn't even come here to report a crime. So, yeah, I'm sorry I work here. I don't know if I can get transferred just because I'm making a guy I kissed once uncomfortable, but I'll ask, if you want." All right, Yoongi knew he was being irrational and losing his temper, but it was like there was a wall between them, where Namjoon had to misinterpret everything about him, and that was beginning to drive him more than a little crazy.
"I didn't mean it like that... can I go? I really want to just go." Cause he didn't want to have a fight but Yoongi was gunning for him and he didn't know what to do. He was still not over it. Of course he wasn't. Namjoon should have told him what was wrong but he didn't. And now look where it was. "And I'm not uncomfortable because you kissed me." He was uncomfortable because he'd wronged someone.
And seeing them every day was going to be hard. "I just didn't want to come here. They've been trying to stop me for years now and I finally stop and everyone gets pissed at me."
"It's my job to protect you and keep you safe!" Yoongi realised how that sounded and, yeah, it sounded exactly the way he meant it, but he knew he couldn't let it stand just like that, so he clarified. "I mean. I have to do that with every citizen."
He just muttered it, he knew he didn't sound convincing. "I'm a cop." So there. And now he was a blushing cop. Damn it, this had gone about as badly as it could have. "...look. I'm sorry. I promise, I'll just avoid you when you are next here. You won't have to deal with me."
"Sure." Namjoon nodded and then he got up because he wanted to go out to Minjun, go home and curl up with Yoongi. The cat, not the man. "You can't protect me and keep me safe if you avoid me so it's a bit paradoxical." Just saying. He bit his lower lip and hoped Yoongi would take the hint and let him out of the room.
"I-- I'm sorry." What else did he say? He didn't know how to express all his regrets and sadness in such a small window of time while in an interrogation room.
"I'll just have to protect you and keep you safe from afar. Without you knowing." Or something. Yoongi got up and walked over to the door, opening it. This had gone even worse than he thought it would have. "Your brother was wrapping up things with Gyungho-hyung."
Both legally and, probably, in other ways as well, but he could let Namjoon figure that out by himself. "Your brother seems nice. By the way. For a fake lawyer."
"He's a bit much but he is my family-- and my only friend so I have to tolerate stuff with him. He usually makes a better fake doctor than fake lawyer." Just saying. He smiled a little and then nodded, heading into the hallway and letting Yoongi walk him out. "Now that I don't have to go to jail, he'll probably buy me lunch. That's the best part of my ... my week. When it happens."
Otherwise he just eats ramen and sits at his computer. "I'll see you around, Yoongi-ssi." He didn't know if he could call him hyung any more so he just bowed and headed off, hoping Minjun was done seducing a cop.
Yoongi wanted to tell Namjoon to call him hyung, hell, call him Yoongi. But of course he should really just take the hint. Namjoon didn't want to be familiar with him. So he just bowed. What could be even say now? "Goodbye, Namjoon-ssi."
That said he turned around and headed to the bathroom. Seemed like the safest bet, he felt like hiding.
