Jungkook giggled at the idea and pulled a gross face at him, ever amused by his silly appa. "We met at a dumpster, didn't we? It smelled." Jungkook nodded wisely. "All of us did. Me, you and Dooly. He had a bad tummy and you were all fally-downy." It was hard to believe it had been a few weeks since then. Yoongi was very different from when he first met him but he knew that Yoongi was special, even then.
Yoongi was his appa. His hero! The best in the world. "What do you wanna smell like this time, appa?" He looked at the options and then picked up one that was blue. He didn't know what it said, he just liked blue. "This one is pretty."
"You like that one?" Yoongi checked the price and then nodded his approval, taking the bottle and setting it down in the cart. "I think we'll smell good with that. The other kids won't stop playing with you now. Just with TaeTae, if he continues to not wash right."
Hilarious. Yoongi smiled at Jungkook and started walking again. "Sooo, what snacks shall we get? I know you like those seaweed ones we always get, so they are a must. Shall we try out something new again too?"
"He and Namjoonie-hyung yell about showering a lot but we don't. Cause I'm a good boy." He nodded with determination because he was a good boy. He always showered and he did what he was told. He didn't like to upset Yoongi or do bad, he was afraid of losing him. Which meant when he spilled his juice last week, he cried in horror and begged to stay but every plus had a negative sometimes.
"I dunno. Appa, what is tasty?" He looked up at Yoongi to impart his knowledge on him. "I want something tasty! You always have tasty snacks, appa."
"You are my best boy," Yoongi assured him, bending down so he could pick Jungkook up and carry him as he looked over the snack aisle. He picked up the seaweed snack that Jungkook loved and handed it to him, gesturing to their cart. "Can you throw it in?"
Well, he liked involving him. "Shall we get some tteokbokki crackers? They are a bit spicy, so you'll like them a lot." Yoongi picked them up to hold them so Jungkook could inspect and approve. "And then we should get something sweet too. Maybe something with chocolate?"
"I can handle spicy food cause I'm a big boy now." Jungkook bragged, he had a mild spice tolerance as most kids did but he was very determined to be on Yoongi's level. He wanted so much to be able to do anything Yoongi did. He dropped the seaweed and then the crackers, more gently this time, before turning to scan the sweet snacks.
"Maybe pocky?" They always had fun boxes and they could share them. "Appa, if we have money left over, can I have banana milk?" He really did love banana milk. More than anything.
"We have some money," Yoongi promised, "So you can have banana milk." He had a budget in his head, but there was some room, which was largely the 'Jungkook asks for something' extra bit. He didn't want to deny him any simple wish like that.
He adjusted their shopping so far, checking the crackers to make sure they weren't too spicy for Kookie. But no, they should be all right. Nowhere near as hot as the real deal, so he was sure Jungkook would enjoy it. he picked up one of the fun looking boxes and dropped it into the cart. "Looks good so far. Jungkookie, do you want to know a secret plan I have?"
"Uh-huh. I want to know." He and Appa had so many cool secrets already! Mostly when they accidentally made a mess at work or broked something. And whenever he spilled, Yoongi promised to keep it a secret so no one knew he was a bad boy. They were fast becoming partners in crime. Which was perfect in Jungkook's mind.
"Do we tell no one? Top secret. Like-- Like... spies!"
"Uh-huh. It's just for you and me to know." Yoongi looked around suspiciously, to make sure no one was listening in, then he whispered to Jungkook. "We will save up and then soon, maybe next weekend already, appa can take you to a bookstore and we will buy a book."
There were plenty of books to read at the centre, but Yoongi had noticed how much Jungkook enjoyed books and it was definitely something that seemed like a good thing to support. They could read it again and again, the way Jungkook seemed to want to do.
Jungkook's eyes lit up with excitement. The books were his favourite. He couldn't read by himself but he really loved being read to. He loved sitting in Yoongi's lap while he read to him, looking at the pictures and getting cosy. The idea of reading at home was exciting. He could have a bedtime story! Tae always got one and Jungkook didn't like to steal the books so he saved stories for day time. Not bed time.
"Can we? I wanna! Appa! We could-could read and then we could sleep and-- and TaeTae said that he does that sometimes." Jungkook was so excited, he forgot to breathe while taking and had to swiftly inhale.
"Yeah, that's the plan. Maybe you can even learn to read a little bit." Yoongi had no idea how to go about teaching that, but hey. If Jungkook wanted to learn, maybe he could at least teach him how to write and read his own name, that'd be useful. He laughed. "Don't forget to breathe, Kookie. But yes, we will. You just have to help appa by being the way you always are and then we will have enough money to buy a book."
Maybe even two, but he didn't want to promise too much. "Do you want to know what the plan is when we have saved so, so, so, soooo much?"
"So sooooo much? We'll have so many moneys for things. We could get .... eight banana milks." That was exactly the kind of money skills Jungkook had, he didn't really get money, he just knew that they needed it to get stuff and without the stuff, everything sucked. Essentially. "Will we get a .... car?"
He wasn't sure, he frowned. "Will we get ... a puppy?" Oh! He did like puppies!
Yoongi was steering their cart toward where the banana milk was kept, secretly amused at the idea of getting eight banana milks so Jungkook's little mind would be blown. However, that seemed like a waste of fridge space, so he decided against it. Maybe some other time. "We are saving up together, you and me, so we can get a flat. A place for ourselves. I hope we can get one that is close to the centre and maybe near the park too, huh? Close to where TaeTae lives."
"That'd be so cool. I like the park." Jungkook beamed and hugged his arms around Yoongi's neck, happy at the idea of living in a house like a proper family and growing up with his appa. It was like the stories he watched on TV where people were happy and stuff. He wanted that. He wanted him, Yoongi and Dooly - together forever.
"Yeah, we will." Yoongi hugged Jungkook close. "Until you are big and want to move out so you can live by yourself." Well, there was that. But it was hard to even think about that when he had his tiny little Kookie right there. He couldn't even imagine him being old enough to go to school right now. "We will have a kitchen, so we can cook in our pyjamas."
Wouldn't that be exciting. "Maybe we will even have a bathtub, like TaeTae does."
"I won't ever move out, hyung." Nope, not ever. Apparently. As they approached the check out, Jungkook squirmed around until he could be put in the cart. He loved his part. He sat in the cart and handed Yoongi stuff, Yoongi put it on the moving thing and then it all beeped! Thrilling for a toddler. Not for many others. He held the products over his head so Yoongi could reach them.
"I like being in my pyjamas. I have nice pyjamas now." Jungkook turned to the lady in front of them, who was watching them with amusement, and he beamed at her. "My appa got me bunny pyjamas."
"Uh-huh. There's bunnies all over." Yoongi didn't feel much like talking to some stranger, so he just interacted with Jungkook and smiled a little. The weirdest thing about becoming a father - something he really had not anticipated - was that women suddenly noticed him in a whole new way. If he hadn't been so gay, he could have really scored.
He got his wallet out, getting ready to pay. "Say goodbye, Kookie, yeah?"
"And they have carrots. It's silly but I like it a lot. I didn't have jammies cause I had to leave but now I do!" Jungkook explained to the woman who was smiling politely and nodding along. Jungkook was either very shy or very chatty with no in-between. He liked to ramble on, he liked to share and he was always excited to brag about his new appa to anyone who'd listen. "Goodbye, noona."
Jungkook waved as the lady finally made her leave and then turned around to watch Yoongi. "She was pretty. You should marry her."
"Yeah? Pretty sure she was already married, Kookie, she had a ring on." Yoongi paid for their purchases and then pushed Jungkook in the cart along, handing him a bag so he could put away all their purchases. He always loved doing that, so he let him, waiting the extra time it took the tiny boy to coordinate his limbs enough. It wasn't as if they were in any hurry.
"Besides, she is very pretty. But, you know, appa doesn't like pretty girls for falling in love. Or not pretty girls. Not my taste."
He did take his sweet time doing it, not on purpose, he felt like he was working pretty fast. He got some items tangled in the handle of the bag but mostly, he was packing at the speed of light and -- oops, dropped the butter. He focused on trying to cram it back in. "You don't like pretty girls... I guesssss. It'd just be nice to have an eomma again."
He did miss his eomma a lot. He looked up at Yoongi, trying to pack the milk at the same time... it didn't work at all. "You don't like pretty girls cause you like Joonie-hyung."
Yoongi leaned against the cart handle as he watched Jungkook, only reaching out to hold open the bag once. He had a lot of patience with this kind of thing, it wasn't as if he had anything urgent planned. All they had to do was carry home the groceries and get ready for bed, a few minutes more or less here wouldn't kill him.
Although that might. He coughed, raising his eyebrows. "I like Joonie-hyung?" Wait, what? "Who said that?"
"TaeTae said that some boys like boys and Joonie-hyung liked boys. And he doesn't like girls, just boys. And you always say you don't like girls so you like boys. Annnd you always spend time with Joonie-hyung and no one else." There, that was his deduction. Pretty on the ball for a tiny boy but Jungkook did a lot of thinking. He finally got everything into the bag and looked up at Yoongi, holding up his arms.
The shopping needed carrying and, apparently, so did he. At least he tucked Dooly into the bag so he'd be out of the way. "You should marry him."
"Yeah? I don't think I can do that, Kookie. For one thing, I don't have the money for a ring. An onion ring, maybe." Well. In all fairness, knowing Namjoon, he might accept that readily. He adjusted Jungkook to sit on his hip properly, held the bag in his free hand and started heading out of the store. Luckily it wasn't a long walk.
"Besides, Namjoon-ah and I are just friends, you know? You are right, if either of us did fall in love, it would be with a boy, but that doesn't mean that we fall in love with every boy, you know?"
"But then me and TaeTae would be brothers and we'd get a puppy called Sparkles and share a room." Clearly Jungkook and Tae had discussed this because he was very specific on what would happen going forward. He and Tae had talked about how cool it'd be a few times, Jungkook had it in his little head that they should definitely date for the good of all of mankind and puppies.
"What kind of boys do you like if you don't like Joonie-hyung? Do you think Joonie is ugly?" He was just wondering. "He smells good."
"Does he? Hm. I'll have to smell him some time." Oh, this was definitely a TaeTae and Kookie plan, the signs were obvious. Yoongi wasn't even surprised, these two came up with all kinds of things. Honestly, this might be one of the less weird, on the whole. "I don't think Joon-ah is ugly at all. He's very handsome. Kinda out of my league, really. That means he's more handsome than me, you know? Anyway... I don't know. I used to like dumb boys, but I've changed a lot since then. I don't know what I'd like in a boy now."
"You should like smart boys. Joonie-hyung is smart and he smells nice annnd he always has funny t-shirts on!" Sometimes funny on purpose, sometimes funny by accident and sometimes he just had a lot of spills and it made them giggle. He liked Namjoon, he was always nice to them and he always sat down to read a story. Jungkook and Tae thought it'd be a brilliant idea if they dated. It just made sense.
"Namjoon is smart but he's not all cool like you are so you gotta help him be cool and he can help you be smart."
