Yoongi quickly caught him around the middle and then pulled him on his lap, holding him close. He felt so warm and soft and he just wanted to keep him safe forever. So precious. "You don't need to give me anything, Jungkookie. I'm your hyung. Hyung takes care of you. But if you give me something, I'll be honoured."

He smiled and reached for the bag he had brought with him, pulling the present out. It was a toy bunny, cute and soft and fluffy. "Here. I remember when you were a bunny. Are you still a bunny sometimes?"

"Yes!" Jungkook giggled excitedly and reached out, taking the bunny and saying hello, polite and nice, using formal language to speak to the new friend. He cuddled the bunny close and then beamed up at hyung. "Thank you, hyungnim! I like the bunny a lot. My appa always says I'm his little bunny. Have you met appa? He's nice. Everyone says he's scary but he's not. He's silly."

Jungkook didn't get to see appa much but he came often to hold him, give him a pep talk and listen to him talk. Jungkook looked at his bunny excitedly. "Sometimes I dress like a bunny cause I am a bunny."

"You are a little bunny, aren't you? And now you have a bunny friend. You are his hyung and you get to pick his name." Their father, nice and silly? Yoongi tried to imagine that, but he fell short. He supposed the man must have really loved Jungkook. He knew that he'd never loved him, but he had never expected him to. He knew why he didn't. But it was nice to see that even his father had managed to be human with someone.

He stroked Jungkook's hair and smiled at him. "Just say hyung, Kookie. Not hyungnim. I'm silly too, you know? We can play together and have fun. Only outside, when people watch, then hyung has to be all scary."

"Like appa, I know. I know there are rules and we don't hug and play in public. If the tigers see, they'll gobble me up! Cause tigers eat little bunnies." And appa always said he had to be very, very careful or he'd get eaten by them. It made Jungkook scared, sure, but it also ensured he didn't forget his place and play with appa in public.

He snuggled his bunny and nuzzled his head. "When is appa coming home today?" He hadn't seen him for days. He didn't play much lately. He just kept telling him he had to be a good boy for the next leader. Whatever that meant.

Yoongi wasn't sure how to tell him. He wished that Namjoon was here. Namjoon would be better at this. And then he banned the thought to the back of his mind as quickly as he could, because he wouldn't cry in front of Jungkook. Later again, he was sure. When no one could see. Smiles he could do, silly he could do. But he had to be strong. He would keep Jungkook safe.

"I'm sorry, Jungkookie. Appa won't come home again. You are with hyung now. Appa... He died, Jungkookie. Do you know what that means?"

"Like when you watch movies and the person dies and then everyone is sad because they're sleeping too long?" His tummy felt bad now and he hugged his bunny close. He wanted appa to come and explain it, he wanted appa to take care of him ... he was sure that hyung was nice but he wasn't appa. He whimpered nervously and fidgeted a little, nuzzling up against Yoongi. He seemed nice, maybe he'd make it better.

"Is appa gonna sleep now for a long time?"

"Yeah. He will sleep forever now. We will say goodbye to him though and you can always think of him. I bet he watches you from above. Appa loved you very, very much, Jungkookie." Yoongi smiled a little bit, playing with Jungkook's hair. "And I love you very, very much too. I will take care of you now always. I can do some things appa couldn't, you know? Like... I can cook food. Do you like food?"

Dumb question. Whatever.

"I want to say bye to appa." Jungkook didn't get it. He couldn't see appa any more. That was too scary! He was eager to say bye and make sure that appa would sleep well. He turned around and hugged Yoongi, not worrying or hesitating. He just snuggled up to his hyung like he'd known him for years. "You're the new appa? Yoongi-hyung... Very good head on your shoulders."

Jungkook smiled a little, reaching up to pet his hyung's face. Appa always said that about Yoongi and this was the same, wasn't it? Big brother Yoongi. "You can cook? I like a lot of foods, hyung."

Good head on his shoulders? That must have been what his father had said about him. Yoongi wasn't sure if he liked knowing that. Honestly, he had no idea how to really feel about any of that new information about his father. He knew that Namjoon had told him how his father changed, how he used to be sweeter with Namjoon. Yoongi's father had never been like that with him. Maybe it had been easier, not knowing the alternative. Honestly, he didn't know.

Yoongi smiled and petted Jungkook in turn. "Yeah? What foods do you like, Jungkookie? Maybe hyung can make them for you and you can watch."

"I like kimbap." That was his favourite. He and Minwo would get little lunchboxes of Kimbap and go out places like the park and parties and then they could eat without risking something bad or icky happening to his tummy. Like poisons! He petted his new bunny and then looked up at Yoongi. "What do you like, hyung? Can you make ramyeon for me? I like beef!"

He loved beef ramyeon when he needed some good, safe comfort food.

"I can make you kimbap. And I can make you beef ramyeon too, maybe we have that tonight?" Surely he could get someone to buy the ingredients they needed, if they didn't have them in the kitchen already. He got up suddenly, carrying Jungkook as he headed for the kitchen so he could check it out. "We will make you really yummy food, yeah? Hyung loves to treat you. Do you think your bunny friend is hungry too?"

"He likes carrots." At the sudden movement, Jungkook latched on tight, bunny hanging over Yoongi's back as they moved through the long hallways. Once they were in the kitchen, he frowned and wondered if Yoongi knew his way around everywhere here. If he was his hying then he must have lived here. "When I was teeny tiny or when I was in eomma's tummy, were you here?" He was so curious about Yoongi. His new brother. "Did we play?"

"Oh yeah," Yoongi confirmed, setting Jungkook down on the counter and smiling at him in a way that was very Suga. Maybe one day Jungkook would hate and resent him too, but at least for now, he could give him a hyung he would feel safe with. So he ruffled his hair and told him. "I always played with you. I would come in late just to tuck you in. I would make shadow plays with my hands on the wall, tell you stories. Sometimes sing you songs. I will show you tonight, maybe you'll remember. And you'd show me how you can hop, tiny bunny."

"I remember little bits of so many things of so many people and I was so little, I can't remember it all because babies don't remember so good." He knew this cause he had already asked Minwo why he didn't remember having a hyung or his eomma and he said cause babies didn't remember stuff. They were kinda dumb like that. "I know this!"

He hummed a little tune he knew from his good night time waaaaay back when he was littler. He hummed it happily and then he beamed up at his hyung. "I bounced so well."

"You did, Jungkookie! You bounced really well." Yoongi laughed and wrapped his arms around him to help him bounce just a little now, carefully, so he wouldn't fall off. And, quietly, he sang the song that went with the melody that Jungkook was humming, his heart hurting a little bit as he did so. He had a feeling he would just have to get used to his heart hurting. Jungkook's smile made it better. "You are the best brother, you know? I missed you a lot."

"I'm sorry you missed me but I'm here now. And we're brothers so we can help each other. You can help me do some big boy stuff that's tricky... like putting on the pants that had claspies and buttons. And I'll help you by carrying and being tidy!" Jungkook explained, knowing they had to have a give and take. Appa always said the best way to help was a tidy room and being on his best behaviour. So he was. Always.

"You also gotta help me do bath time but after I have a bath, I can help you!"

"That sounds great." Yoongi smiled and then just leaned in to hug Jungkook close, simply holding him for several moments. There was someone who needed him to keep him safe. Someone whom he loved, someone he had to protect. Someone who hadn't been poisoned against him. And it was unlikely to last forever, but even just for the moment, it helped him relax a little bit.

He finally let go, just still stroking Jungkook's hair. "Hyung will cook now. You can watch, Jungkookie, but maybe some time soon you can help too."

"Okay." Jungkook let Yoongi move him closer to where the action was, watching him prepare kimbap and oohing and ahhing often. It wasn't until half way in, as he watched Yoongi roll the kimbap, that Jungkook beamed at him and smiled. "I like you a lot, hyung. I hope we play together a lot." Play and work... cause he knew, big boys worked. And he was a big boy.

Mostly. He wanted to be, anyway. "You're the bestest hyung ever."
