"Don't bow to me, Joon-ah. I'm just... I'm no one. I'm your hyung." He really needed to think of a name to use. He didn't think he should just use his actual name, that was bound to lead to complications. Reminded him that he also wanted to dye his hair. So much to do. "I'll get work. I can do whatever it takes. And I'm the hyung, I take care of you. Remember?"
He frowned, nodding his head. "We will go to the convenience store and I'll buy you cake and a book."
There, that made up for the science fair a little. Maybe? "Then you can wait for me there and won't have to watch basketball in the rain."
"I like watching you play. It's funny. Everyone thinks you're easy to beat cause you're short and suddenly, bam, you kick their asses." Namjoon was at that complicated stage of hating a lot about Yoongi but hero worshipping how cool his hyung was. And that made everything harder. He wanted to resent Yoongi but how could he? He was so cool and funny.
It would reach a point one day where one beat out the other but for now, Namjoon just kept on running hot and cold.
"It's weird to be equals, hyung." That's what they were right now. Kind of? "In a way. I'm still yours. Now and forever. But out here? People don't know it. It's weird, huh?"
"I like it better that way," Yoongi admitted. He wondered if Namjoon could understand that. Maybe? "I like being friends." It wasn't as if he'd ever had any. This was his one chance, for however long. This time right now, it was his once chance at a lot of stuff and he was determined to make the most of it.
"I like being equals." In a way, he supposed it was all he really wanted to have with Namjoon. He wanted to actually be on the same level. To be friends. It was probably unlikely to happen, but he could hope.
"We've always been friends." He didn't get it, he frowned at Namjoon and looked at him with a baffled expression. To him, they had been. Always friends, always together and happy. Recently things had been a little up and down but for the most part, the decision he made at seven had stayed the same for him. He was his friend - he was just also his property too.
"Just cause I have to be with you doesn't mean I hate to be with you. Mostly I just hate stuff like this." Where he had to leave home and take part in some dumb challenge or contest. "I can't wait to go home, hyung."
"I know. I'm sorry, I'm afraid it will be a while. But I'll do my best. And you can still go to school, probably. After the beginning phase. We want you to graduate. Korea's top student." Yoongi wasn't sure, he would have to figure it out, but he needed to graduate. Besides, Namjoon loved school. He would make it happen for him, even if it might be some weeks until he could organise it.
"Hey. Maybe once we have a place, we can order pizza." That would be so cool. People did that on shows! Not that he watched those but... He had caught some of it at times.
"Like in Friends. Two pizzas." That's the Joey special. He grinned excitedly, not thinking it was all bad cause whatever, it was fun. It was exciting. He just sometimes got upset and he didn't like to but what else could he do? Life with Yoongi? It was complicated. He realised that more and more as he got older and older.
Maybe there was a reason why his father told him he'd resent Yoongi one day - sometimes he already felt like he did. "Maybe this could be fun." Maybe.
