"I run a book club and they can't start without me, you see." It was a lie but he didn't see the point of talking honestly to any doctor here. They always screwed him over, every last one of them. "I didn't realise I would have to meet a doctor today, given they drugged me out last night so I'm not really in the right headspace to meet and it's clashing with my pre-existing activities."
And he didn't appreciate that. He lowered his head and looked Jin dead on. "There's no consistency. How's a guy supposed to relax and heal is everything is always in an upset? You should really ask me first before assuming I have time for this."
"I'm very sorry, Namjoon-ssi." This guy was something, but Jin didn't let himself be provoked. Instead he just smiled. "You shouldn't have gotten drugged. I'll look into that." He wondered whom he could ask about that. Maybe the orderlies, but he'd have to figure out which ones he could trust. He knew that Namjoon might easily be lying to him, but he'd like to make sure. "I'll give you a heads up now and tell you that you have another appointment with me tomorrow. And may I ask who's in your book club?"
Which he definitely assumed was a fabrication, but whatever. He was getting something from him.
"Another appointment? Oh boy. You think I got time to waste, eh? Well. I guess I do." Namjoon had to laugh, it was kind of funny. He shot Jin a smile with entirely too much teeth and then he slid his chair back, knowing he couldn't get up but he could make himself more comfortable. "My book club? Of course. Hobi-hyung, Jiminie, Tae and Ten. I'm promoting literacy in our ranks, reading is quite poor here but then, we have about twenty books and I've read them all about fifty times over."
These days he used the books for code only but it was a useful way to write out plans and have no one understand it. They all just thought he was rambling like a lunatic. "Would you like to join us, doctor?"
"There should really be more books... I'll have to look into that." Jin frowned. There were so many things lacking at this facility, no wonder that a lot of the patients seemed to be suffering. He had to implement some changes, little by little. "Please think of what kind of books you want to read. I'll try to get them added to the library." Maybe he couldn't get exactly those, but he could at least try and get some. He might just have to donate himself.
"I'd love to join the book club, but it seems fairly exclusive. Would I even be permitted?"
"I'll give you a list." They all started out like this, it happened every time. They came with good intentions and got corrupted. Every book in that library, if it could be called that, existed because Namjoon asked for it and every time, they soon forgot and moved on. The power trips always came not long after they settled and realised how easily they could abuse power here. Namjoon didn't blame them, it was pretty simple.
"You're permitted if you read the book. Don't turn up with spark notes or a wiki summary, I don't abide that bullshit. That's a way to get kicked out." He was a strict club leader, he didn't let people mess with his rules. "It's not a tea party you're asking to join, doctor. You should take it seriously."
"Oh, don't worry. I like to read. I always got extra credit on my reading assignments in school." Jin laughed a little and shook his head, checking the time. Well, he had told Namjoon he'd let him leave early if he could, so he got up and opened the door, calling out for the guard.
"Jungkook-ssi? Could you lead him back to his cell please? He's back tomorrow at the same time, we already agreed."
"Jungkook is very loyal, you'll like him a lot. He's a good boy." Namjoon informed Jin with a small smile, watching Jungkook unlock his cuffs and drag him to his feet, not fighting or resisting, playing along almost like he was willing every action around him to happen. "My brother loves when Kookie comes to visit."
"Don't call me that." Jungkook gripped Namjoon hard and dragged him to the door, trying to avoid getting roped up in a discussion. "I'll see you tomorrow, doctor."
