"Oh yeah, can't wait." This was not freedom. He watched Namjoon tell Hobi what he'd told Yoongi and idly considered how fucked he was. If Yoongi died, he was dead and odds are, they would die if Cheon had his way. And he usually did. He hurried after Yoongi and stepped outside, frowning as he looked around.
Shit. This really was the middle of nowhere. "I'm not running away." He tugged at the cuff. "I got nowhere to run to. I guess. I dunno." He shrugged. "I don't like nature." It was icky.
Jungkook sat down on a nearby tree stump and watched as Tae ran around like an idiot, posing for him. He huffed out a playful laugh and shook his head, it was hard not to smile around Tae. That's why he liked him. "So interesting! You're like a sunflower, turning to the light."
"I'm not the biggest fan either. Hate having to sleep outside." He could do it, obviously, he had done it, but he had never enjoyed it. Yoongi looked around to scan their surroundings, then looked at Ten again at long last. "A lot of the people that follow your father will follow me, once they believe I've survived."
He knew that for a fact. Most who grew up with his clan wouldn't be happy under the Dark Dragons. "I know what I'm doing. I've been working on this for a long time. I will win."
Tae turned around himself until he got a little dizzy, so he sat down next to Jungkook and laughed quietly, wrapping both arms around him. "I'll be all tan. You'll still like me then, right?"
"I know. Then you kill my dad and my boyfriend. I'm thrilled for you." What was he supposed to say? Yay, congratulations! He didn't like it. He wasn't even sure if he liked Yoongi. He just felt a moment of desperate fear and caved. He just didn't want the hood again. "Those people that abandon my father won't want me alive. I'm a problem."
He could rise up any day and get power. Or at least, idiots who didn't know him. He pouted lightly and looked down at his feet. "Keeping me alive is just dragging it out." He'd get every scrap of info from him before he shot him.
"I'd like you any way you are." Jungkook took his hat off and slipped it onto Tae's hair, figuring he needed some sun protection. As little as he could offer. "Keep the sun off your face, you'll burn." With a fond smile, he let Tae cling to him, watching a squirrel run around ahead.
"Not if you took my side. It would strengthen my position. Taking over the enemy, turning his own son into my friend." Yoongi thought that logic was sound, it should discourage dissent. "Especially since you aren't interested in the business. That would actually work in your favour here."
He doubted that Ten's disinterest was a secret. Such things never were.
Tae glanced up at the hat and grinned, resting his head against Jungkook's shoulder. "That boy, he really bothers you, yeah?" He was piecing it all together. "I'm sorry. I know you miss your father."
"I don't trust you." May as well be upfront. "It's hard to trust someone who would happily kidnap and torture you. I see no reason to stand by your side. Cheon isn't perfect but he's always good to me and my father, he doesn't have much to do with me but he would save me and protect me. All you do is hurt me. And use me." It didn't seem like a great partnership. He got it, he was a hostage but it sucked when Yoongi spoke to him like they were going to be rulers or partners.
"You're kinda a shitty guy and you're gonna get me killed." What else was new? "I guess I deserve it. I deserve a guy like you." He turned his head, smiling playfully. "Big dick."
Jungkook sighed, not sure if he wanted to really think about it all. "I do. I just ... I don't hate him, I hate what he represents and he's a constant threat as long as he lives."
"I haven't hurt you. I could." He had not treated him kindly, but why would he? It had worked out well enough the way he'd handled it. Yoongi was good at interrogation, one of his talents. He had been right to handle it the way he had, but of course it meant that Ten was far from broken. "You think you deserve me?" Yoongi flashed a smirk for a moment, shaking his head. "Oh, you wish."
"I understand." Tae sighed and just rested his head against Jungkook. "Don't worry, Kookie. I'll keep you safe." Well, he certainly intended to, even if he was very much still learning.
"Your thug slapped my face and I've been sleeping on a stone floor for a day in a straight jacket. I can barely feel my arms. It hurts." Yoongi always tried so hard to make him feel like a wuss, talking down to him and acting like it wasn't a big deal. He didn't have to get a beating to be in pain. Lowering his head, he huffed in annoyance. "I wanna go back inside now." The fresh air and birds were annoying him. Time to go back to hell. It was easier there.
"Oh please, I'll be the one protecting you." Jungkook had to laugh, wrapping an arm protectively around Tae and keeping him close. "I'll always protect you. Always have, always will. I got your back. Whatever happens here, I'll keep you safe."
"I guess. So I did hurt you, I'll admit it." He didn't apologise, but at least he didn't argue against it. He glanced over at Jungkook and Tae to make sure that they were being cute, then turned around to head inside. He'd have to figure out what to do about Ten for now, then he could think about what to do with him later. If he had to kill him, so be it. But maybe there was a better way. "Hobi?"
Yoongi held his wrist up and Hobi came over, unlocking the cuff on Yoongi's side. "Where do we put this?" 'This' being Ten.
"I want to stay upstairs. It's cold down there and it hurts."
"You don't get to make demands. You're a hostage. Just shut up and let the grown ups talk." Namjoon didn't even look up from his laptop, unsure when Ten would stop making demands and just do what he was told. Ten gritted his teeth. He didn't like being called 'this', he didn't like that he wasn't getting to stay upstairs and he eyed the door that was still open outside. His legs were free, technically his hands were free. He could bolt. He could try it.
He edged back and then he just went for it. He bolted back out the door and ran as fast as his legs could carry him. He wasn't much of a runner though.
Yoongi exchanged one look with Hobi and then just set out after Ten, since he was a little closer. Obviously any of them could have caught them, even Namjoon sitting in the other room, but Yoongi wanted to make sure he got to him before Jungkook could shoot him. He tackled him to the ground and immediately forced his hands behind himself, using the handcuff dangling off Ten's wrist to lock it to the other wrist and pressing his knee down hard against the small of his back, one hand on his neck to keep him down. He leaned down so he could whisper near his ear.
"Are you insane? My brother could have shot you, you idiot."
"I want to go! I hate you, you fucking bastard. You said if I helped you, you'd reward me but you talk about me like I'm nothing." Ten wriggled and flailed, not seeming to care that behind him, Jungkook literally had his gun trained on the area Ten had just been. Desperately, Ten tried to get out from under Yoongi.
"I'm glad my father wiped you out. You're a clan of cowards. You're pathetic." His eyes watered and he didn't want to cry but he was so fed up of this. "It's not my fault that your dad sucked at his job."
"Shut the hell up." Yoongi was not about to let Jungkook execute him right here and there, but part of him was tempted. He forced Ten up on his knees, which meant that he was actually kneeling behind him, but it also meant that he could pull him back against his chest, draw his knife and hold the blade right against Ten's throat. He kept his voice low, as calm as he could. "I'm treating you kindly, because your ignorance and naivety is not your fault and I take no pleasure out of crushing or breaking someone like you. But I won't listen to your disrespect. Clear?"
He knew he was right. He knew it. They were weak, cowardly, picking on him when there was so many of them. He felt the knife to his throat and he sniffed lightly, looking at the trees longingly. Was there a road nearby? Hobi drove here, there must be. "You don't treat me kindly. You treat me like a prisoner. Because I am one."
"Slit his throat, hyung." Jungkook came over, luckily missing whatever the fuck Ten just said but he could guess. "We got enough from him, why keep him around?"
"I'll do what I see fit." Yoongi didn't really need the commentary, but of course it was unavoidable. He would have to deal with it. Tae stayed close to Jungkook, a little bit behind him, watching with wide eyes.
"And you have no idea how much worse I could treat you and you don't listen to me." Of course, it was all to be expected. Little brat. He had no idea what suffering really meant. "I'm offering you your only chance at survival. Stop kicking it away."
"You're going to kill me. I know you are. You're just stalling until you know everything. Well, I won't tell you a thing more!" He didn't want to die, he really didn't want to die. He started to cry and he felt so pathetic but he didn't want it to end like this. "Why don't you treat me worse? Don't give me less pain and act like it's a kindness."
Jungkook gritted his teeth and tried his best to stay quiet. It was hard to hate the kid, he was so fucking pathetic. He knew nothing about real pain. About the world. Reaching back, he held onto Tae, just in case he got too close.
Yoongi got up, pulling Ten up afterwards, careful not to nick his skin, but not putting the knife away. He held on to the cuffs and pushed him back toward the house, his face showing nothing and Tae shrunk back a little, tightening his hold on Jungkook. He hated when Yoongi got like this and he hated even more whenever Jungkook seemed close to it. It scared him. He knew violence, obviously, but this was different. His father had never been controlled.
"Your brother is so scary." He muttered it once Yoongi had walked Ten inside, shuddering as he tried to even figure out what might happen to Ten now.
Inside, Yoongi moved Ten back into the basement, even if he had considered different things before. He finally let go of him, giving him a shove. "Get a hold of yourself."
"He always has been. That's why when he says no to me, I listen." Jungkook had never earned himself a look like that and he intended to keep it that way by being a good boy and not pissing him off. With a sigh, he turned back to Tae and put an arm around him, knowing that he'd been scared by so many people in his life already. Violence was usually directed at Tae, not from him. "It's okay. We'd never hurt you."
Ten stumbled down each step of the basement and dropped to his knees, snivelling as he crawled across the floor. He wasn't used to this. To wanting stuff and not getting it. To being hurt. Harassed. Treated so roughly. His knees hurt from the fall and he tried to wipe his face on his shoulders.
"No, I won't." He'd do nothing Yoongi told him. "You can't control how I feel, dickhead."
"I know that." Well, he knew that Jungkook wouldn't hurt him. He didn't know about Yoongi. He never seemed to get angry, not that he could see, which made it difficult. He still remembered the first time he'd seen Yoongi kill. "I'm just... Is he going to torture Ten now? Can't really blame him for trying to run."
"Guess you already forgot that I can control everything about you. I sure as hell could make you feel worse." Looking down at him, he made a face. "I could make you feel better too."
"Maybe. Look. Come on. Ten is a bad kid, he's being a dick. He could make this easier and he won't." Putting an arm around Tae's shoulder, Jungkook tried to smile. "Tae, don't concern yourself. Yoongi always knows what he's doing." Moving Tae back forwards where they were sitting, he sat him down.
Ten turned around so he could drop down on his ass, looking at Yoongi like he was crazy. "You can't. You do nothing to make me feel better." Well. Besides food, drink and outside time. "I was good!"
"...you tried to run, insulted my father and said you're glad my clan was wiped out." None of those things really fell in the 'good' category in Yoongi's book. He shook his head and wondered whether any part of Ten realised how much more trouble he could so easily be in, but he supposed he really didn't have that much self-awareness. It was bizarre. "What part of that was good?"
"I told you what you wanted to know, I was being good and then you brought me up there and your brother stands there, talking about how much he wants to kill me and everyone talks about me like I'm dirt. You wonder why I don't like your clan? I did something for you and you repaid me with other's hate." He didn't do anything to anyone. He didn't even run the business. Why did they all hate him so much?
"What do you care what they think? They won't do anything but what I tell them to. You should care about how I treat you. How I talk to you. How you talk to me." Which clearly was lacking a lot. Yoongi crouched down to be on Ten's level. "You symbolise something they hate for them. I have told you, we could change what you stand for." Not that Ten seemed to be willing to compromise.
"I care what they think because I'm alone here." And he had to rely on these people and they all wished him dead. He wasn't used to it. Usually he was loved. "You make a lot of promises but I don't believe you." He felt so defeated. He couldn't run, he couldn't rely on Yoongi and no one was coming. "I don't stand for anything. I just sit there and I look pretty." Essentially. Yeah. That.
"You could be a lot more than that." Yoongi felt bad for Ten, although he knew he should have despised him for how weak he was. How pathetic. If he'd been like this, Jungkook would be dead, as would he. But there was no use comparing them, they had lived very different life and Ten might learn yet. Slowly. "I haven't broken my word to you yet, have I?"
"You give me a bastardised version of it." He pulled his knees to his chest and sat there, looking at Yoongi and wishing he could do something. He wanted to fight but he didn't know how. "I know what you're thinking. You think exactly how your brother does. That I'm useless and a brat. Maybe I am. I never asked to be a mob boss."
He hated this business. "You can have it if you want it. Take my title, take my place, kill my father and my boyfriend. I can't stop you." He didn't even know if he wanted to. "I'll stay in this shitty, cold basement and I'll be good. Quiet. And you can rule all you want." Clearly that was his main desire. "Whatever you want, big dick."
