"I think your eomma is up there." Yoongi pointed up at the sky, not sure how to relay the concept of death to a child this age. Not well, he supposed. "You can't see her, but you can close your eyes and think of her and then it's like she is there."
Well, whatever. Maybe it would work. "But you will get an appa, maybe. A really nice man to be your appa. That's great, isn't it?"
Here was hoping. "Do you want an appa? Hyung will find you one."
"Appa?" Siwoo screwed up his face before reaching out to pet Yoongi's face and then slap it because his concept of strength control was not the best. "Appa." Yes, he had found him. His appa. "Appa!"
Namjoon laughed, he had to laugh, it was kind of funny. "Woah, Yoongi, you're already an appa. You've had quite the month." From knight to snake demi-god protector to war hero and now appa. Funny. Namjoon smirked and pulled a face at Yoongi.
Siwoo turned around, stared at Namjoon and then held out his other hand. "Appa!"
"Yes! That's a better choice, you got with Namjoon as your appa, he's married. I'm not ready for that yet." Yoongi was still wooing his prince. Figuring out how to bring him a star was so far not turning out too easy, but he was sure he would think of something. Bringing him a child instead seemed like a bad idea.
He tried to encourage Siwoo to latch onto Namjoon, laughing quietly. "Namjoon can be your appa and I'll be your hyung. Much better choice. Namjoon-appa is a king!"
Realistically a much better options. Yoongi might be a legendary hero in the making, but he did not have a castle. Or anything, really.
"Appa, appa, appa." He'd found a word he liked. "Appa, nom nom?" When was he getting food. He was hungry. And wet. And cold. And he wanted eomma but there was no eomma, only an appa. Two appas. He didn't let go of Yoongi but he did reach out to pet the furs that Namjoon was wearing. "Appa."
"Woah, no, Yoongi! I can't just have a kid. I'm busy and we -- I-- I can't decide that. Jin would have to. And I'm too young!" He was not ready for little kids. They were all gross and smelly. And he would inevitably break them.
Siwoo looked up at Yoongi, wide eyed and curious. "Appa?"
"No, I'm hyung. He is appa. He's a king too. Do you know what a king is?" Mostly he was hoping to keep the kid occupied while the food wasn't here yet, although he was hoping the man wouldn't be much longer. They had a hungry child to feed. "Namjoon, just hold him. You can ask Jin in your letter, give you a reason to write every damn day."
Seemed like a good deal to him. He looked up, smiling when he saw the man return, carrying a steaming bowl of rice in one and a basket in the other hand. "Nom nom is coming, Siwoo."
"I dunno... I don't wanna. He kinda smells. And my clothes are freshly cleaned..." Namjoon just kind of assumed that a tiny kid wouldn't know he was trashing on him but apparently he did because Siwoo was soon in tears and Namjoon started to freak. How? He assumed he was too tiny to care. Moving forward swiftly, he tried to soothe the boy and pet his face. "I'm sorry! Don't cry, little one. Please? I'm sorry!"
He looked at Yoongi, panicked. "See?! I suck. I already made him cry." Just as food was arriving too. The man set down food and bowed to them both while Namjoon kept on rubbing the boys back. "There, there. Do you want some nom-nom? It's really good."
"...well, be nice to him." Oh, his king. Such an idiot, as always. Never been the one to have social graces, why wouldn't that clumsiness extend to handling children? But luckily for Namjoon, this child was easily appeased, especially since there was food to be had. Yoongi sat him up on his lap and gestured to Namjoon. "Feed him, come on."
He looked at the man who'd brought the food and water and nodded. "You can go. Thank you."
A deep bow, all the way to the ground, and then he walked off again. Yoongi was focusing on the child anyway. "Do you like the food, Siwoo?"
Namjoon fed him carefully and Siwoo was too appeased because it was tasty. He gurgled and opened his mouth, excepting more rice. "Siwoo, do you know how old you are?" Well. The baby seemed way more aware than he'd predicted. The tiny thing flailed his arms happily when he ate, chewing before he tried to speak.
"Many." No, he didn't know his age but eomma always said he was so many. He wasn't sure how many any more but she knew. "Eomma knows." He frowned and then looked at his hands, holding up two and making bunny fingers like eomma did. "I'm bunny."
"So that's two?" Namjoon suggested as he fed the boy another bite. "That's so tiny."
"Two. If that. Very tiny." Yoongi smiled and leaned back on his hands, letting Siwoo sit by himself on his lap. He was ready to catch him should he have to. "Your first child should be a son."
He was just saying. It was what was expected from him - and Jin for that matter. A male first child. They had a big kingdom now, between Jin's and now this one, as Ten had told him himself that he wanted Jin to rule it now. Namjoon would be the most powerful ruler among all his brothers now, by far. He wondered whether that had registered with his king yet.
"Aren't I supposed to find another way to get a son? That whole magical ritual mix thing or -- adopt from one of our kingdoms? He's from Ten's kingdom." That might not be as accepted. Well. By his people. Jin's people seemed way more chill about it. He fed the boy another mouthful and watched him chew, content and happy, humming away to himself. "He's cute but he lives here."
Siwoo swallowed and reached out to pet Namjoon's face cause he looked troubled. "Appa. There, there." All better now.
"This is no longer Ten's kingdom. Ten isn't... He's not really of this world. You've seen that." As strange as it still was to think about it. Ten was a god now, or a demigod. Whatever it was, he wasn't of this world. "You can still do the ritual too. You can have two sons, why not? As long as you agree on who is heir to what. You have a great kingdom now, Namjoon. You and Jin will be ruling this land and Jin's."
He would be more concerned if he didn't trust both of them to be good rulers. Even if they weren't the greatest warriors. Luckily in these countries, that wasn't seen as a requirement.
"I guess this is our land now. I'm the king." It was weird to think of but he kind of was. "Which means I gotta take care of him, even if I don't keep him. I owe every citizen some extra help, huh?" He booped Siwoo's nose gently and the boy giggled, clapping his hands together messily and nearly tumbling from Yoongi's lap.
"So I need like... baby clothes, right? Diapers and stuff. And-- what else do babies have?"
"I'll send some men out to get the stuff we need. You are the king, that means you can let others handle the dirty work sometimes, huh?" Yoongi put his hands on Siwoo's hips, just in case. He did't want to risk him falling. "This land is in disarray and it will take time to sort it out. Whether you end up keeping him or not, it'd be safest to take him with us. And it might be a gift that Jin appreciates."
Which reminded him. "You are not planning on gifting him anything bloody, right? I still need to have a talk with Jungkook about that."
"No but good luck convincing your brother. He has a bag of heads ready to show off." Jungkook was very much of their culture and his romantic gestures were different from other people's romantic gestures. He smiled in amusement as Siwoo responded to him circling the spoon by following his every move with his head. Kinda funny.
"We'll see what Jin thinks of Siwoo before we decide anything." That was his final word on this. Though he doubted his bae was going to reject a tiny child.
"I fear as much. I planned on talking to him before the battle, but..." Well, stuff happened. "I wonder if there's a way to turn it into a gesture Taehyung would appreciate somehow... At least he knows more about our customs than Jin."
And it wasn't as if Jungkook could write him a poem instead the way Namjoon was probably doing. "They prefer small gestures. Simple and beautiful. And they really like things to not bleed."
Seemed fairly simple, yet it could obviously go very wrong.
"What if he just gave Tae the sword he cut the heads off with and we convince him to discuss minimal beheading?" Seemed smart. He looked at the bowl, all the rice was gone and Siwoo was already fidgeting, climbing up Yoongi and trying to squirm over his shoulder to look behind him to where eomma had been last.
Namjoon called out to one of his men to go and find clothes because honestly, Siwoo really shouldn't be in those dirty clothes much longer. "We'll have to give him a bath."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. You have to give him a bath. I have to, you know..." Well, sleep, mostly. He was tired, he had had a very busy few days and nights. "...pray. Devoted to my god and all that."
To be fair, he had fought Cheon in his dreams originally, so. "I've killed the same man twice, I have a lot of praying to catch up on."
Yoongi tried to hand the squirming child over to Namjoon. "We need to discuss who'll be honoured for this war. Obviously Jungkook has earned it, but there are a few names."
"What? No! What if I accidentally drown him? Or I mess up?" Namjoon panicked but Siwoo didn't notice, he was being moved around and he whined, annoyed by it and easily moving away from the person causing his discomfort. He clambered into Namjoon's lap and the king huffed, awkwardly holding him and stroking his back up and down.
"We should be a team, you ass." Namjoon winced as Siwoo stood on his thighs, stomping a little on his poor legs, Damn kids. "Hey, Siwoo, you want a bath with me or hyung?"
"See? Appa wins out. You be a team with Jin-nim, that's what you married him for." Even though obviously Jin wasn't here right now. Yoongi got up with a smirk, thinking on it. "I'll send one of the men to help you, a lot of them have kids."
He was sure some of them had some expertise that should be helpful. Yoongi turned and walked off, heading in the direction he suspected Jungkook to be. When he found him, he put a hand on his shoulder, lowering his voice so only he could hear him. "Have you eaten yet?"
No matter his age, he still wanted to take care of his brother.
"Yep. I already ate, hyung." Jungkook looked over to where Namjoon was holding a child and raised an eyebrow, he'd been watching from a distance every now and again but he didn't want to interrupt. Or pry. He just let it be. As he often did. Jungkook could be awfully chill sometimes.
"You should go sleep, hyung. You've had a really long day."
"You have a child, right?" Yoongi called out to one of the men, nodding when he got an affirmation. "Go help our king, he needs to take care of a little one. Make sure he doesn't drop him."
He watched the man walk off and then turned his attention to Jungkook again. "I will. Just sorting everything out."
There was usually a lot to keep in mind. "Jungkookie, what present do you have for your Taehyung?"
"My spoils of war." Jungkook remarked enigmatically. He didn't want to be judged by his brother and Namjoon had told him it wasn't a good idea but how else would Tae know what a strong and good provider he was if he didn't gift him the heads of his enemies. Of course, he knew Tae was gentle so he thought it over. He had another gift too. "I got him a pretty pebble too."
He liked pretty things and it was kind of shiny in the light. So that lucky boy was getting a pebble and some heads!
"...good." Well, at least he could trust Taehyung to be diplomatic about it. He was just glad Jungkook wasn't trying to woo someone like Jimin, he suspected that would go significantly worse. "They like shiny things. Simple but beautiful."
Only Ten and, of course, Jimin himself knew that he was wooing the prince so far, unless Jimin had shared it with anyone. Yoongi saw no need to, but he did want to help Jungkook out. "Perhaps you could use the pebble to craft something that he could wear. Like a necklace or an earring. You know, something beautiful, like what Taehyung gave Namjoon to gift to Jin-nim on their wedding day."
"Maybe. I'm thinking about it. I'll show him my very best, hyung." Jungkook looked up at Yoongi, still somewhat dirty from battle and looking clearly weary. He sighed and gestured over at Yoongi's tent. "Stop worrying about everyone else in the world and worry about yourself. You've been through a lot. Go lie down and chill out."
He heard the baby wailing in the distance, unsure if it was happy or sad wails. "I imagine there won't be a lot of peace on the trek back home." Not with that noise.
"He's a good kid. He will be quiet most of the time." Well, he was hoping. He sounded more excited than upset and he was pretty sure being rocked on a horse the way they naturally moved, he'd just fall asleep. Yoongi frowned, thinking as he looked around. War, of course. This entire country was war-torn.
He wondered how Ten felt about it. Rubbing the inside of his arm, he spoke slowly. "I might take a different way home."
Someone had to help these people and he felt it should be Ten, with all his divinity. But maybe there had to be belief first. If these people, his people, worshipped him, than maybe he could help them find their strength again, just as Ten had found his.
