"I guess. Maybe these days I prefer when someone smells the way you do. Clean, sweet. Too much time spent around sweaty men." Yoongi smiled as he saw the snakes, tightening his grip around Ten. "There aren't snakes where I'm from. Maybe it's too cold. That's why I was sure I'd never take you there for more than a visit. You belong somewhere warmer. Just likes snakes. Maybe like Prince Jimin too."
Perhaps that was just something they had in common. Beautiful princes and snakes. Weirder correlations existed. He took a hold of Ten's hand and pulled him forward so he could look under the desk. "There it is. Your name is just like it looks on my arm."
Ten dropped to his knees and crawled under, lying on his back with a smile and grabbing Yoongi, making him do the same. He checked both and then touched both with either hand. It was true. There was no denying it. "We both have some seriously ugly handwriting." Ten laughed and God, he didn't think he'd ever laugh like this again. He grinned and turned his head, looking at Yoongi.
"Thank you for making me feel like this." He missed being happy. "I don't like to be sad but lately it's hard to stop. It's so overwhelming. It's like drowning in black ooze. There's no light and -- it's hard. This makes it easier."
"I told you. I'll spend all my life trying to help you. Whether it's by making you laugh or fighting for you." That was what he swore every night and morning, after all. "I know what it's like. Being swallowed by darkness. You carry a heavy burden, Ten. I want to be there for you."
He kept holding Ten's hand, as he looked at their names under the desk. "Do you think you could get dressed here, in your room? I'm not sure if it will make a difference, but perhaps. I know that he-- He is powerful here. But this is your mind. Your dream. You are the one giving him power. Give yourself power too."
It was easier to joke than anything. He smiled softly and then he moved forward, climbing out from the desk and heading off towards his wardrobe. When he opened it, there were clothes for him to wear. He took them nervously, like they'd disappear any moment. "Cheon never let me wear clothes. He stripped me the first day and that was it. I tried to put some back on once and he -- it didn't end well."
He pulled his pants up and yanked a shirt over himself, swiftly buttoning it up. "Do we have to go face him?"
"When you are ready." Yoongi didn't know if there was a time limit to all this. He supposed eventually his body might starve and he knew he shouldn't be leaving Namjoon and Jungkook without him, but other than that, he didn't know. However, he knew that hiding forever couldn't be the option. He looked at Ten, then went down on one knee.
"I'm ready to fight for you. I'm ready to wait with you too."
"We should do it. I don't want -- I don't want you to die. If you think he's winning, retreat! We can fight later." If he lost Yoongi, he lost whatever shred of hope he had. He held onto Yoongi's hand tight and eyed the door. It seemed to get further and further away as his anxiety got worse but slowly, it stopped and he willed himself to move.
"Don't let them get me." That was all he asked. "I'd rather die."
"I won't let them." Yoongi at least intended to do whatever was within his power to help that. He took Ten's right hand with his left and walked with him, wishing that there was a way to do this without him there, but that was ridiculous. His dream, his consciousness, his mind he was battling in. And he was ready for the fight. Perhaps this was what he'd felt in the air tonight.
"Make sure to tell people about me, if I don't make it. I want a tiny statue in the temples they'll build for you."
"You have have big statues. I'll lie about both our heights. Giant men, we are." They crept out into the hallway and Ten kept close, gripping his hand just a little tighter now. "I don't want you to die. Please. If there's a problem, just run. We'll both run. We can try again later."
As they got closer and closer to the throne room, the place around them got darker and smaller. Ten's fear overrode a lot of the more logical ideas around them. He swallowed hard. "I don't want to do this." He just knew he had to.
"You are not alone, Ten. I won't leave you alone, no matter what." Yoongi tightened his grip on Ten's hand a little, doing his best to not feel too uneasy about everything surrounding them and what was to come. He looked at the doors to the throne room when they finally reached them, turning his head to catch Ten's eyes. "I'm with you."
That said he opened the door, trying to be ready for whatever might be waiting for them. Cheon, he expected that, but he had never even seen the man. He was going to see him in Ten's nightmare for the first time. It was an unsettling thought.
"You're with me. You're with me." He kept repeating it, kept telling himself it as he crept forward, nervous and afraid. He was shaking a little but he kept going, kept telling himself that he had Yoongi. He knew, as soon as they opened the door, that Cheon probably didn't look like Cheon but in his mind, he had warped his enemy into an inhuman monster.
His eyes were pure dark, he was so much bigger than he probably was in life and definitely taller. Just being near the nightmare creature, Ten's mind went blank and he frozen. This was a mistake. Why did they do this? They needed to run.
That seemed about right. Yoongi stepped in front of Ten to defend him, but kept one arm behind him so he could also keep holding on to him too. "Remember, you are the one giving him power," he muttered, wishing that Ten would give him some power instead. But he supposed that wasn't how it worked.
He looked at Cheon, wondering if he could just attack him. That seemed too simple though.
"Come here, Ten." Cheon's voice didn't sound human either, but it definitely sounded commanding, threatening and as if he was expecting to be obeyed.
Ten reached behind Yoongi and clung to the back of his shirt, trying to duck behind Yoongi and look smaller. He couldn't go to Cheon, he couldn't let him hurt him. "That's what he likes, Yoongi. That's him!" In his head, in his mind, this was Cheon and he didn't even think about what he did to him to change him. "Keep me safe."
He didn't want to go over there. He knew he should but it was too much. He looked at the monster then looked away. "Get out of my house!"
"This is my house now. You are mine. Have you forgotten that? Should I remind you?"
Cheon got up from the throne and took a step toward them and Yoongi was beginning to wonder if he could even see him, just when the man, the creature, finally appeared to notice him.
"You think you can hide behind someone? He'll abandon you like all your hyungs did. Just another coward. I'm all there is for you."
"You know that's not true, Ten." Yoongi looked at this monster, wondering where he would attack if that was what it came down to. Gigantic. Hard to find a weakness.
"He won't leave me. He--He said he wouldn't!" Ten was trembling but even so, he tried to keep it together, tried not to think about Jin walking away from him. They all walked away from him. They all left. They all left him with Cheon.
And like that, he wasn't by Yoongi any more. Yoongi was gone, he was gone! Ten cried out in fear and nearly fell over himself scrambling back, now closer to Cheon than ever. He left? No! No! He wouldn't have left. He must have done something. "Yoongi!"
He just needed to hear him, to see him, to know he was coming.
Without meaning to, Ten had accidentally sent Yoongi away. Back into the other room.
"See? I told you. There won't ever be anyone who can save you, Ten. Forsaken by your friends and the gods." Cheon grinned and reached for Ten, grabbing him at the back of his neck and forcing him down. "What are you wearing clothes for? You think you're here for anything other than being looked at and getting fucked?"
Yoongi didn't hesitate for even a second once he found himself in the other room, he immediately started running, out the door and toward the throne room, knowing that every moment might count now. He had to think of a tactic and first of all he had to show Ten that he wouldn't give up.
"He won't leave me. He promised he wouldn't! No!" Ten struggled against Cheon, as futile as it may be. It was harder in his dreams than even in life. With a scared little whimper, he kicked his legs and turned his head, hearing the faint sound of running, of the doors. Was that him? He closed his eyes and tried not to cry.
"He's going to come back. He's going to come back and save me." He knew it. He just knew it. His brave hero, impossible to defeat. Not a coward! He'd come back and destroy Cheon. "Yoongi?!"
Yoongi reached the doors, but when they wouldn't open he had to throw himself against them. It was strange to notice that his shoulder hurt, it would be bruised. A dream, but he wasn't there as only part of that, he had to keep that in mind.
"Weak, isn't he?" Cheon wasn't very impressed. "How often will he keep trying, before I just squash him. You know that he's nothing compared to me."
"Ten!" Yoongi yelled the name and then finally managed to break the door down, even if his shoulder was throbbing. He had used his left side, he could still fight. "Let go of him."
He reached for his sword without thinking and he actually held a sword, although it wasn't his. It looked almost golden, the hilt a snake's head. Yoongi looked at it for a moment, then stepped forward. "Ten, you have a God on your side. You have me. You are stronger than him. Stop giving him power."
Hoseok had promised him that Cheon would never get him and here was Yoongi, saying the same. He trembled under Cheon's grasp and closed his eyes, trying to do what he and Yoongi had done all over his father's home. "Yoongi is stronger than you. He's my knight. My shining knight. No one can hurt him, no one can kill him!"
Yoongi started to glow a brilliant, bright aura and Ten closed his eyes, he didn't dare look up, he just tried his best not to see Cheon. To give Yoongi the power.
"He's going to kill you." He clamped his hands over his ears, trying not to hear Cheon either. "He's going to kill you for hurting me. He swore it!"
Yoongi stared down himself for just a moment when he started to glow, not even sure how to process that and knowing he had no time to waste on it. He wasn't sure whether Ten had the strength of will to take power away from Cheon, but at least he was definitely giving him power. And so he moved forward, running to get between Cheon and Ten and swinging his sword.
He severed Cheon's arm from his shoulder, making sure the man couldn't hold on to Ten any longer, then he stood between him and Ten, sword raised, holding the hilt with both hands as he looked at that monster.
"He can be defeated, Ten. You have to believe that."
"I'll always have a hold of you," Cheon disagreed, his voice filled with anger and hatred, even as he held on to his shoulder and actually backed away, at least a step, "No one can save you."
He got rid of his arm. His arm was gone. He gulped hard and closed his eyes, trying to will Yoongi more power, trying to give him what Hobi had given Ten. A way to protect himself from people like Cheon. "You ... You can do it, Yoongi. Kill him! Rip him apart!"
Turning around, he properly looked at Cheon and even though it made his heart turn cold, he tried his best to stay brave and strong.
"Yoongi can save me. Yoongi always saves me." And that was what he just had to keep thinking. "Min Yoongi is stronger than any fighter this side of the world. He's the number one champion in our lands. He can kill anyone! Especially a coward like you."
Yoongi did think to himself that Ten might be overstating things a little, but he doubted it was the time for modesty, so he stayed firm and just waited for the right moment, whenever that would be. He wished there would be a clear sign, but maybe he had to create the right moment himself. This wasn't like it was in a story, just a dream and Ten was facing his nightmare. He took off running again and then sliced the sword first through the air and then through his body, cutting through his chest, trying to go for the heart.
It wasn't blood that came out of Cheon, but something so dark it couldn't even be called black any more. But he still fell to his knees and then Yoongi had time to go for one more blow, severing the head from the body.
Where he came from, taking the head meant something and perhaps it would mean something here too. He was panting, still not sure if it was really over, but he went down next to Cheon's slain body and reached for his head, picking it up by his hair so he could turn and hold it out to Ten, bowing his head.
"Is he gone, Ten?" He knew it was really up to him.
Ten was a bit shocked. He didn't know what to say. Was Cheon dead? Was he really, truly dead? He creeped forward in fear, crawling in the back ooze and not caring. Reaching up, he poked the head. He waited, curious, wondering what it'd do. Would it react? No. It didn't. It just hung there, dead and unseeing.
Dead. It was definitely dead. Cheon was dead. "You killed him."
"M-hm." Yoongi looked at the head and then at Ten, attempting a little bit of a smile. Maybe he was supposed to make a grand statement or give a speech, but he couldn't really think of one. "I hear I'm a good warrior."
A light joke might do instead. Perhaps not quite befitting the mood, but there it was. He looked at Cheon's head again, trying to memorise how he looked. He would slay the real one soon, if he had any say in how things would go. Looking back at Ten, he lowered his arm, setting the head down. It was heavy.
Ten got up, tentatively, holding his hand up and eyed the head. God, he wanted it to stay dead. "Come with me." He tugged Yoongi along silently as he approached the throne, standing in front of it. It was splattered with blood. His father had been impaled on it, a surprise attack. He never stood a chance. The blood almost discoloured the throne these days.
"I've never sat on it before." He thought he would have a chance. "Been fucked on it a lot."
Yoongi still held his sword in his right hand, but he held Ten with the other, letting himself be led. He looked at the throne, then at Ten. "It's yours, by rights."
Especially once he killed Cheon out there as well, which he fully intended to do very, very soon. "Do you still want to sit on it?" He wondered. There were still people alive in the kingdom, even if many of them were in hiding, having suffered huge losses. Just as Ten.
"He won't fuck you again. He won't hurt you again."
