Yoongi was mostly focusing on his coffee, but he glanced over at Jiho's phone screen, just to see what he was up to. Huh. "I don't think the views come in faster just because you're watching."
Seemed a bit like watching a boiled pot, honestly. He used the straw to move the ice cubes around, shrugging his shoulders. "They'll come if they'll come."
Or they wouldn't. He was likely to side with pessimism, seemed more realistic.
"I'm not expecting them to like treble or something but it'd be nice if the view counter moved or someone commented... I don't know. I promoted it pretty hard, it just irks me." He posted it on reddit, weibo and tumblr - he defied all his rules about posting publicly on social media for this! And yet, it was too slow. Yes, it was the first video but he wanted some traction already. He was too impatient to wait.
Putting his head in his hands, he stared down at the phone, almost willing it to do something.
Instead, it timed out and went black. Damn. "You deserve better."
"Better company, maybe. Stop staring at your phone." Yoongi couldn't be too bothered, but it was cute how eager Jiho was, so he couldn't help but smile at him. "I'm sure some people are going to check it out. You've done your best. If no one comments, that's probably because I wasn't remarkable."
Which, honestly, was probably not too far away from the truth. Although he felt his guitar-playing had gotten a lot better, now that he was practising every day. "You are a good manager, Jiho. Come on, be happy."
"I think we should film tonight. I have some location ideas, I know the areas where the most people will be - we should be able to get some momentum if we keep busking." And he was going to put Yoongi in a nicely lit, hipster-ish area and attract as much attention as he possibly could. He heaved a sigh and turned his head, looking at Yoongi and pouting. Not that he realised he was pouting, he thought he looked very serious.
"I thought you performed really well. You're an amazing artist, your song writing is as good as any idol company. We can make this work." People would want Yoongi, they just had to see him first.
"Aw." Yoongi reached out to pinch Jiho's cheek. It was hard to resist, honestly. What an adorable manager he had. He kind of wished he understood better why Jiho tried so hard for him. They hadn't known each other that long, although he supposed they were close. As close as he could be to someone who didn't know his background, anyway. Honestly, closer than he generally could be to anyone who did know his background. "Maybe you should be playing, manager, you've got the idol looks. I just look tired."
"I don't have idol looks, don't do that!" Jiho slapped Yoongi's hand off his face and huffed, reaching out to pinch Yoongi's cheek - he just wanted him to understand how much it hurt. "You're just as good looking, why else do you think I'd manage you. Can't promote ugly people." He didn't know why he took the manager thing seriously, he wasn't sure he would ever truly understand. It was just nice, a break from reality - he wanted to focus on anything but his own garbage life. He let go of Yoongi and rolled his eyes, reaching out for his coffee. "You'd look less tired if you slept more. I keep telling you to sleep and you never do!"
"Yes, eomma, I'll sleep early tonight." Yoongi grinned and took a sip of coffee, which he felt was really worth a lot more than a few hours of sleep. "At night I have to do that song-writing you like, so I'm not gonna get much sleep in. Make it part of the PR, the sleepy idol. Although I guess there's a lot of those, I just wear less make-up."
Or no make-up, generally speaking, so the lack of sleep was more obvious. "Maybe it's part of my charm. Like the jacket."
He did get asked for his number a lot more when wearing a leather jacket, that was like a law of nature.
"You know, if you slept properly, people would see you as idol material, not tired burnout material. You look like a uni student." Jiho critised as he reached out and pushed Yoongi's bangs from his eyes to try and show him that he could look a lot more appealing if he tried. Maybe one day he could convince him to try harder but he supposed he could only manage one aspect of Yoongi's life at a time.
"When you busk, you have to make sure that girls fall in love with you. That's how you get musical clout. The girls drive it."
So he had to be there, available for fantasies at all times.
"Ah, yes. Girls always love me. I was such a player in school." Yoongi said it deadpan, as he did most anything, so how serious or not he was being was anyone's guess. Still, he let Jiho fuss with his hair and it wasn't as if he disagreed. He knew he had to appeal to people to get them to listen to his music. To have a chance to get his music out there.
Glancing up, he frowned. "Maybe if I dye my hair. Idols do that."
"Not being a player is good, they want you to want them and only them. So no dating. Ever." He flicked Yoongi on the forehead to empathises his point before looking him over and shrugging. "If you don't want any other job but music, why not? Maybe bleach it. I could do it for you, it's not too difficult." To do a cheap job, it was easy but if Yoongi felt perfectionist, he may need a salon. Though that was money he wasn't sure they had.
Then again, he never knew with Yoongi. He hadn't gotten to see his apartment yet and he always had coffee money. Who knows, maybe he could afford it? "I can google it, can't be that hard."
"Hm. I can do it. I've done it once before. Although that was at a train station bathroom." Back when he'd run away from home as a teen, without any clear plan other than wanting out and away and he had bleached his hair in a smelly bathroom with freezing cold water. Nowadays, he imagined he could go to a salon. Whatever. Not as if his father would reach out to ask to see him any time soon, too busy right now. Left him time to do this.
"We should go out tonight. After busking. We can have bbq or something. I'll treat you."
"Seriously? I... uh, yes. Thank you." Jiho bowed to Yoongi, surprised by the offer but not about to turn down food. He loved bbq but he really could not afford it these days, he spent all of his money on cameras and recording equipment - perfect for Yoongi but bad for his bank account. "One day soon, you watch, I'll buy you dinner. I just need a few more clients and some good luck and I'll be a very successful manager."
Jiho grinned, eager to prove his stuff. "I can't wait for the future, I'm going to get a new apartment first." He hated his, lots of cockroaches.
"I'm sure you'll be successful. You are a good manager, you have a lot of passion and an eye for detail." And part of him felt guilty, because he supposed he should try and get Jiho a better job. But he'd only just made this friend, the only friend he had right now. The only one who didn't just want to be close to him because of who his father was. He didn't want to lose Jiho's friendship. He knew he would eventually, whenever this dream ended.
But it was better not to think on that too much, instead he just finished his coffee and leaned back. "All I want is for people to listen to my music. That's all. Shouldn't be so hard."
"Nah, we got this. We can manage. If we record once a day for like ten days, that's ten videos and almost a mixtape worth of songs. We could plug harder and try to get some collabs. We can do it. Fighting." Jiho smiled and punched the air lightly before turning his phone on again. "Oh! We had a new view." Yeah, that was how eagle eyed he was on this. Literally watching the view counter one by one go up.
"See, look, we even have 50 likes. You'll be a star in no time."
