"Kites are awesome. We should make a kite together. Oooh, we could draw allll over it. I'll draw Snoopy for you, he's cute. I like Snoops." Gyungho bounced Tae a few times and then had to duck so Tae didn't smash his head into the light bulbs. It was a small, dingy place and Gyungho had always hated it. He and his eomma lived in a nice apartment before she married this jerk. Not fancy nice but cosy and comfortable. This place had always been falling apart.
The lazy bastard promised to fix it and never did. Once all the windows were opened, and there weren't that many, he lifted Tae down and sat him onto the kitchen table. "Maybe hyung cooks for you now? We could have... hmm." Gyungho moved away from Tae to the fridge, opened it... and then promptly closed it. Ew. What the hell? Was there any good here? It was almost empty and what was in there, it smelled bad. "For fuck sake, the old bastard couldn't even put food in the fridge. Jesus christ."
"Is it okay, hyung?" Tae was concerned, crawling on all fours on the table to get closer to Gyungho. He wasn't sure why Gyungho was angry, but he knew he was and he hoped it wouldn't mean he would leave again. "I can cook for you! I can make the ramen snack." His genius culinary invention. He wasn't allowed to use the stove and thankfully he respected that. Eomma's rule, of course. "Hyung, we can play and read and make a kite!"
Tae always loved playing with his hyung, but he was particularly attention-starved right now.
"I'm okay." He wasn't. He pressed his head against the fridge and closed his eyes, fighting down his temper. He just wanted to break the fucking fridge and burn this shithole to the ground. Eomma would have hated that things were like this. He let her down, he should have been here not to let it happen but he wasn't. "I'm sorry, Tae. I fucked up. I didn't mean it. I just couldn't be here."
Not with eomma not here. He took a deep breath and forced a smile on his face, coming back over to Tae and trying to work out where to start. "When was the last time you went outside, Tae-ah? You're not going to kindergarten?" That was really bad. "Do you ... do you get to go to the park?"
"Appa said I should go to the park alone, but... But eomma said I can't go without holding hands and I dunno how to find someone to hold hands with." Tae reached out to pat his brother's cheek, since he seemed upset. He wasn't sure what to do about that, how could he make it better? Carefully, he wrapped his arms around Gyungho's neck and then turned his head to place a kiss on his cheek.
"It's an eomma kiss. Eomma kisses make things better." He nodded his head wisely. "She taught me. So I can be like a bit of eomma."
Gyungho almost broke down right then and there but he fought against it, he battled away every urge to crumb as he picked Tae up and hugged him so close. "I got you something. Come with hyung."
He carried Tae back to the front door and crouched down, pulling the plastic bag aside so he could pull out the stuffed toy and show it to Tae. It was a a white dog that Gyungho thought looked hilarious so he spend nearly thirty dollars trying to win it in a claw machine. "I won it for you. I've told him allll about you. You need to give him a name and then you have a really good friend for life, yeah?"
Putting on his silliest voice, he made the bear pretend to approach and kiss Tae. "Hey, TaeTae, I'm your friend to the end!"
Tae laughed and almost squealed with joy, then reached out to hug the toy and hold it really close, snuggling it as he pressed his face against the soft fur. "So cute!" The best toy! He had the best toy from the best hyung. He looked up at his hyung in complete awe, so impressed by him. "You can buy the coolest stuff!" What a cool guy his hyung was.
"Uhhh... that's a bit confusing. What if we called him... Gyu-- Gy-- Goo. Gooho." There. Nailed it. "Goo-Goo for short. His rap name is G-Dog." And then he made the puppy rap to Tae cause why not exploit his gift for rap and silly voices to make his brother laugh? He owed him. He made sure Tae was holding the dog properly before he lifted him up, holding the boy sideways playfully so everywhere they went, Tae went head first. Of course, Gyungho was careful.
"Okay, I think me and you should leave this place. You wanna come stay with hyung for a few? We can go get noodles and tomorrow, kindergarten... wherever that is. Do you know the way? If not, it's cool, I can google." He could do this. How hard could it be?
"I know a bit," Tae ventured, trying to remember. "Cause there is the bit where it's like a waterfall and also it's close to the forest."
There obviously wasn't a waterfall or a forest anywhere near, but Tae had his own way of seeing the world. "It's the best kindergarten! And yes! Go with hyung!" He was giggling, so happy at the idea, especially since it came with playing and with noodles. "Hyung, hyung, hyung, I love you! Hyung, hyung, hyungie, you are the best." He moved his Gooho around to make sure he'd dance to his cool made-up song.
Playfully, he tossed Tae onto his bed - not too hard but enough that he bounced and didn't get hurt. Gyungho promptly started raiding his room for clothes and ... well, barely any of it was clean. Urgh. He grabbed Tae's kindergarten bag and started to fill it with whatever clothes he could find. "Is there any toys you wanna take with you or anything else?"
He didn't know if he was bringing Tae back. Maybe he would find someone to take care of Tae, maybe Minjun's parents knew someone or something. No way could he take care of Minjun. "You're gonna sleep over with me and Minjun. You remember him, right? He has a place I'm crashing at so we can crash together."
"Yes! Pretty boy." TaeTae nodded, because mostly he just remembered Minjun rapping something and it said he was a pretty boy, so that's what he remembered. He wasn't sure what it meant, since he didn't know any English, but he liked how it sounded. "Appa says you and Minjun aren't normal and you will get sick?"
He wasn't sure what that was all about, but he liked telling Gyungho the stuff appa said, because it made it less scary. "Hyung, you have to pack my books!"
"He's one to talk." Rolling his eyes, Gyungho moved across the room to set the bag of clothes down by Tae. He grabbed a box off the floor and studied the contents, most books and the odd toy - good enough. He just added some extra stuff to it and lifted the box, setting it down next to the clothes and looking down at Tae. "Appa talks shit. He sounds like a butt."
And then he blew a raspberry to Tae got the message. "Okay, anything else you care about? We got toys, we got clothes and books, we got your puppy. What else?"
"Only puppy and hyung." And no toothbrush, so he would never ever have to brush his teeth away. Cunning! Tae smiled serenely as he thought about his cunning plan, hugging the puppy close. "Do we gotta tell appa that I'm going? Cause appa is stuck with me..." He wasn't sure how that worked, but he did know that appa didn't seem to like it. "I wanna be stuck with you, hyung! You are good."
"I'm not good, Tae. I'm a loser. I'm just good compared to appa cause appa is smelly and dumb." Gyungho didn't want Tae to have any fake ideas of him, he wasn't a good guy. He was still hung over and yesterday he did a lot of drugs with his friend so... no, he wasn't a winner. Even so, he set Tae down on the floor and looked at his brother, crouching down and cupping his cheek.
"You're the only hope for this family, Tae. Don't grow up to be like me or appa. Just be like eomma. Always listen to what she told you." Because she was the best thing in Tae's life. Was. God. That sucked to think. "You're a little piece of eomma, aren't you?"
"Uh-huh. And you are a big piece!" Tae wrapped his arms around Gyungho's neck, trying to climb into his arms. He was so happy to have someone he could hug, he was so happy to have his hyung. "Eomma said I have to take care of hyung, so I will." He was very determined. "I keep growing and I'm older now, so soon I'll be the hyung."
"... You'll be a hyung sooner than I will so yeah." Probably. Gyungho laughed as he pulled back and grabbed the bag, passing it to Tae. "I know it's heavy but can you carry this and the puppy? I'll get the box of stuff." He put Tae's pillow on top of the box and started out of his room, pausing at the bathroom and remembering towels. Oh! And a toothbrush. He grabbed both and returned, smiling at Tae.
"Almost forgot about that. Sorry, TaeTae but you gotta clean those teeth of yours." Nobody liked a toothless kid.
Tae pouted and whispered to the puppy about how he wouldn't brush his teeth, because ha! Odds were he hadn't done a lot of cleaning lately, since he was a tiny boy left to his own devices. Still, he supposed eomma would want him to brush his teeth. One of her more annoying traits.
"Hyung, is it really far to walk? Cause I got really short legs." He was at a disadvantage.
"It's okay, I got ... I can handle it." God, he wished he had more cash. "Just walk a little bit and we'll stop halfway for food." And hopefully he could carry extra stuff on top of his boxes because dear God, they had a lot of stuff to take back and no ride. And no friends with a ride. Maybe Yoongi had a car... though he thought texting him out of the blue for a lift would not go well. Especially since he hadn't spoken to him in months and barely really ever hung out with him.
"You can do it. Brave, strong TaeTae! Fighting, yeah?" Here's hoping. "It's just G-Dog and the bag."
"I can do it!" He nodded with great determination, looking at Gyungho's legs. "Hyung is soooo long. I wanna be like hyung when I'm big." He nodded again, even more determined to reach that goal. "Hyung is really, really handsome too, I know. Everyone says so."
He was so proud, he had a cool and handsome brother! It was the best thing, he knew. "Just silly." Eomma had always said that. "I can help."
"You're so good for my ego." Gyungho held the door open for Tae and let the boy out first before leaving the door wide open and just walking away. He hoped someone ransacked the place, the bastard deserved it. "We can be silly together. Together we can take a bath in blue water and play with duckies." He and Minjun lost their shit when they found out they had a bath in the apartment upon purchase. It was pretty small and dingy but they had a LOT of toys for it.
"And we can make a kite tomorrow. We'll make ... twenty kites." Whatever. He could find a way. "Maybe mini kites."
"Kites fly cause of aerodynamics, hyung." Tae didn't know if his brother knew, so he thought he should tell him. He was bouncing a little as he walked, waving to everyone they passed and bowing politely as he greeted them. So many aunties and uncles out on the street! "What's aerodynamics, hyung?"
He knew words, but he didn't always remember the meaning.
"It's about drag and lift. Like how gases interact with moving objects or bodies. It's not as interesting as it sounds... or maybe it is." Tae seemed so bright, curious and intelligent. Gyungho didn't get that. "We'll ask Minjun. He's a smart boy from a smart family. His little brother is like a genius or something." Minjun was smart but this boy was apparently freaky smart.
And freakily bad at moving his body. It really was a train off, brains and brawn. The uncles and aunties gave him a funny look but luckily, Tae was distracting enough that they mostly got smiles. "What food do you want to stop off for? Sweet or not sweet?"
"Noodles and burgers and ice cream." Seemed like a good plan, very good food. Tae grinned, giggly just at the idea of all of that. "Minjunnie-hyung has a little brother? Can he be my friend? Cause I'm your little brother." So it only seemed natural. "Can his brother speak funny too? I can. I can say... Hello! I am TaeTae."
"I dunno, Joonie-bug is a lot older. He's not got as big of a gap as us." He supposed that most people didn't but he was unlucky to get a brother, really. He was almost in the clear and now this. Not that he didn't love Tae but damn. This was not great. "How about we go to Mcdonalds and get you a happy meal. Then you can have burgers and ice cream and maybe Jun-ah can make us noodles tonight."
Cause Gyungho was not feeling like cooking at all lately. He was mostly just tired and unmotivated. "And come on, you can do a sillier voice than that. Try again. Go reaaally silly with it."
Of course that led to Tae just speaking his beautiful alien language to his brother for an astonishing long time. He just didn't seem to get enough of it. Tae rubbed his face against his new favourite toy again too, so happy to be outside and walking. He had missed the world! "Hyungie, I really, really love you. I need to be with you, because I have to take care of you. I promised!"
"Yeah. I promised too." And he fucked it up. Tae was so much better at this than he ever was. He held out his hand and let Tae take it, walking him across to McDonalds. He made Tae wait to the side with the stuff as he ordered, paid and then found them a table. Once he was all set and in his seat, Gyungho went to collect the happy meal and the burger he ordered for himself.
It was interesting. So many chicks were checking him out. All cause he was feeding his baby brother and being nice to him. Intriguing. "Do you like your burger, Tae-ah?"
