Yoongi had been a few feet away, because Namjoon told him all the time that creeping was creepy, so whatever. As long as he could keep an eye on him, he trusted himself to be fast enough, should something happen. He assumed the guy was someone else Namjoon had relations with - and maybe it was. But right now it was someone who was pulling Namjoon into a car, definitely against his will, and Yoongi already had his gun out.
He shot the driver through the open passenger door and then a second bullet hit the guy's shoulder, which meant that by the time he reached Namjoon, he could pull him free easily enough. "Stay behind me!"
He was hoping that once, just once, Namjoon would simply listen.
"Ah, what the fuck? You weirdo!" He yanked his arm. Man, it really hurt. He just said he was busy, why couldn't this guy take no for an answer? He was getting harsher now, yanking his arm too hard and then suddenly, there were gunshots. He didn't know what was going on but he made a swift retreat behind Yoongi.
The second guy climbed over, shoving the first guy out onto the pavement and trying to start up the car and get the hell away from them.
Namjoon was in shock. What the hell was happening? "I-- what? No! Yoongi, don't shoot! I know this guy." And it was confusing, sure, but he did smack Yoongi's hand down to stop him from killing him. "I know him! This must be a mistake!"
"He wanted to take you." Seriously, how stupid was Namjoon? But Yoongi had an inkling that Namjoon's father would want answers from the man, so instead of shooting this guy as well, he shot at the nearest tire first and then tried to hit the motor, which was a bit difficult from the current position.
Looking around he tried to figure out what would be the least risky move. He couldn't get in the car to take the guy down, he had no one to guard Namjoon in the meantime. "Who is this guy? Namjoon!"
"Haejin, we know each other! Hey! Man! What the fuck is going on?"
Namjoon didn't think about keeping distance, he tried to move closer and understand what was happening. Jungsuk was dead on the pavement, Haejin was bleeding and Yoongi was shooting at them. This was crazy. He knew these guys, they were a little rough sometimes but they were good guys. The guy was desperately trying to start the car and Namjoon rushed ahead, grabbing the side of the window frame to try and stop it, catching his hand on some glass by accident. Ow. "Yo, man! What are you playing at?" He wasn't sure what response he expected.
"Namjoon! I told you to stay behind me!" Yoongi cursed under his breath, moving forward, because clearly Haejin wasn't thinking clearly at all, instead attempting to pull Namjoon into the car and suddenly holding a gun against his head, hissing angrily.
"Tell your fucking assassin to back off or he can scrape your brain off the pavement, all right?!"
"Woah, woah, woah! Chill, man. What the fuck?" Why was he doing this? His arm was awkwardly yanked and he was half in through the car window, using his other arm as purchase on the outside of the car to stay out. As soon as the gun was there, he stilled and gulped. He didn't get it. Why was this happening? "Dude... we're friends..."
Weren't they? His body was at an awkward angle, feet just touching the floor as he could smell the blood on Haejin. Looking at Yoongi, his eyes widened. "Uh, back up?" He didn't want to die.
Yoongi lowered his gun, out of options at the moment. He took a step back as he considered his options. Maybe the car still wouldn't start, but the guy was jumpy. He couldn't risk anything.
"Get in the car." His so called friend snarled at Namjoon as he opened the door for him, the gun pointed the entire time.
Until finally Yoongi saw his moment with a clear shot and he aimed from the hip, hit the gun and knocked it out of Haejin's hand. No longer wasting any time, he immediately moved forward and dragged Haejin out of the car, wrestled him to the ground and forced his arms behind his back, holding him down with a foot between his shoulder blades.
"Who sent you, huh? You don't work alone. Who's paying you?"
Namjoon was a bit shell shocked as he had never really seen gunfights like this. In the distance, in the streets, away from him and not really his issue but here he was, seeing it up close. His ears rang a little from the noise, he had blood splatters from Haejin all up his shirt and on his face.
As soon as he had a chance, he crawled free from the car and across the pavement, just wanting to be away from his former friend. Who didn't seem to be giving Yoongi anything but curses and hassle.
Sitting on the pavement, he watched, unsure what to do. "... We went to school together. What the fuck? I-- this is wrong." Why would someone he knew just suddenly do this? He didn't have enemies... did he?
"...Joon-ah." Yoongi turned his head to look at Namjoon and realised that he couldn't go through with it, not in front of Namjoon. He couldn't just torture the guy, not while Namjoon was watching. So instead he leaned down and pulled Haejin up with a grip around his neck, quickly rendering him unconscious.
Getting up he pulled out his phone and made a call, giving the location and explaining the situation quickly. "One guy dead, the other unconscious."
Once he had backup confirmed, he walked over to Namjoon, crouching down next to him and putting his gun away. Just for the moment. "Are you injured?"
"No." Well. A little bit. His arm hurt, his hand was cut and he was a little bashed up but mostly, he was freaked out. It was hard to fight off the shock more than anyting. "I dropped my glasses somewhere." They came off when Haejin was yanking him almost halfway through the busted car window. He bit his lower lip and looked at his old friend. He knew him at school. They had fucked a few times, just casually, nothing romantic. Why would he hurt on him?
"He was my friend..."
He knew he kept saying it but he was so confused. He looked up at Yoongi, frowning. "What happens now? Do you kill him or torture him? He's a traitor, right? So... torture. For information." Torturing his former friend. He didn't like it.
"We need to know who he's working with. Then, yes, he'll be killed. He tried to abduct the son of... Well, your father. That's not a casual offence." How sheltered had Namjoon been kept that he wasn't more used to something like this? Was he really just this soft? Yoongi felt bad for him.
"I'll look for your glasses, Joon-ah." Sweet boy. Sometimes he didn't show that, but right now it was so very obvious. "I'm sorry. This is not... I doubt it has anything to do with you personally. It's because of what you are. Money can make people do all sorts of things."
This wasn't his first kidnapping, no, it really wasn't. He remembered some more than others. Some were close misses, others were aborted attempts but it was easy to move on from because they were always strangers, people he didn't know. He didn't expect someone he knew to make a move like this. "My friends never do this to me. Bad people do."
He remembered the faces of so many 'bad people' as he used to call them when he was younger. They made sense. This didn't.
"I know that people suck but I didn't think people I liked sucked..." Well. He guessed that was dumb of him. He frowned and then sighed, rubbing at his eyes. "I bet you think I'm a dumbass for being freaked but it's -- it just seems to get harder." He missed the strangers.
"You are not a dumbass. I don't think that. Of course it's hard." Yoongi wished he knew how to comfort him, but given that he was the one who had shot one of his friends and might well be the one to torture and kill the other as well, it didn't really seem like his place. "I remember the first time I was betrayed by someone I trusted. It hurts. I'd be more surprised if this didn't freak you out."
"I dunno. It's weird." He supposed he should have expected it but he never did. He didn't like what his dad taught him - to keep distance, to let no one in. What kind of a life would that be? Even so, he thought of Haejin and wondered what other friends he had who might make a move like that. Soohyun? Yejoon? ... Hobi?
No, Hobi never would. He knew that. "Thank you for saving me. Sorry I didn't listen." He felt like an idiot now. "When do we get to go home, hyung?"
"It's okay. You were in shock. Just please listen to me next time. I know what I'm doing. I've trained for this." Yoongi held a hand out to Namjoon, wanting to help him up. "We can start walking, backup will be here soon to pick up the pieces." He really wanted to hug Namjoon, but that would be inappropriate and unprofessional, so he refrained.
"You are a good person. I'm sorry you have to deal with all this shit."
"I'm not a good person. None of us are. Come on, we're gangsters. Dealing with blood money, exploiting people, selling drugs and breaking the law. No one in our world is good." Namjoon just didn't see himself or his father as good people. They just benefited from everyone else's misery. All the money he had came from someone's suffering.
"Honestly, I don't deal with as much as some. In the grand scheme of things, maybe this is just karma?" Or maybe he overthought ever little thing. Hard to say!
"I don't believe in karma. Stuff happens for all kinds of reasons. You get it because you are your father's son. I'm here because I need money and once upon a time I didn't see any other way to get enough money than to learn how to do this." Kill, shoot, all of that. "I'm doing it for my family, but that doesn't make it any different. So maybe you are right. No one is good. But people can be good for you."
"You're pretty good for me. Even if you were just hired cause I like skirts and my dad is in panic mode." He was a grown ass man and yet, he wore a skirt and got a babysitter. Not that he was begrudging that right now. He smiled a little at Yoongi and God, he wished he could hold his hand or get a hug but that seemed weird. Maybe he could call Hobi? He didn't have many guys who gave out physical affection just because.
"I'm glad you're here. Thank you for saving my ass. Without you, I'm pretty fucked, huh?"
Yoongi looked up and then reached out to pull Namjoon to the side when the car with reinforcement came by, waving them off and shouting some instructions before turning to Namjoon again. He held on to his arm, smiling just a little bit. "That's my purpose, isn't it? You always joke about it. Keeping you from getting fucked."
That said he did pull Namjoon into a sudden hug, because he looked lost, a bit like a puppy. He looked as if he needed comfort and Yoongi couldn't think of many other ways to give it.
Oh. Hugs. Okay, he wasn't needy or anything, honestly, despite what Soohyun always implied. But he did melt into the hug so eagerly, whining a little and clinging on almost instantly because he loved himself some hugs. For reals. Like a needy koala, he was soon wrapped around Yoongi and entirely forgetting about the car, the men working around then and Haejin.
"You're sweet, I was right. Suga." He smiled and held on tighter. "Do you really not like Suga-hyung? Cause I do but... I can change it to Yoongi if you want." Yeah, he'd learned his name by now - he just liked Suga better.
Yoongi let himself be held and, yes, he also held Namjoon. Whatever, he was supposed to take care of Namjoon and protect him and clearly his mind needed some care in the form of hugs, so he was here to do just that. Even if maybe it would have been better to do that somewhere no one else was, but whatever.
"I don't mind Suga so much. No one dares ask where it comes from anyway." So it really was about sugar? Huh. "I didn't think you'd have called me sweet so quickly." Given Namjoon had mostly complained about him. And vice versa.
