The car finally stopped moving and the doors in the front opened and shut again, the rustle of clothes hinting at their kidnappers having gotten out. Yoongi had no way of seeing anything, but he knew that Jimin, Namjoon and Jin were in the car with him, probably in exactly the same situation, with their hands taped behind them and a bag over their heads.
He assumed that they didn't have much time, but he turned to feel the door, seeing how he was sat on one side. Maybe he could get out, maybe he could run. Jimin was next to him and he was fairly sure that he could feel the boy shaking. He couldn't exactly blame him.
"Is anyone hurt?" Jin didn't do the best job of not sounding scared, but of course he would be the first one to ask about all the others.
"I'm not hurt. And it will be fine, Jimin," Yoongi promised, not that he had any way of knowing. He would just do what he could to keep him safe. All of them, obviously.
"Yeah, Jimin, don't worry. It's fine. Shit like this happens... we can deal. Okay?" Namjoon thought of the younger one first before himself, he could freak out later. They were all adults, or they felt it anyway, they could handle themselves. Hopefully. God, this was terrifying. He really hoped his words were right and they were going to be fine, he honestly had no idea.
"I'm not scared, it's fine." Jimin may have been trembling but he wanted to have a little bit of pride, he didn't want anyone to worry about him. Or to look like a wuss.
"Good, you keep that up." Namjoon tried to feel around as best he could, not quite sure if he could see anything or hear anyone around. "Can we get the doors open?" Maybe they could run for it. That was the only option he could think of right now.
"I think I can," Yoongi muttered while working the door handle, trying to disable the lock by feel. Not an easy task, but really the only chance they currently had. He wondered if it was still light out and where the hell they were, but he supposed that if he did get the door open, he would have to just run for it and hope for the best. "If I get the door open, stay put. I will try and get help."
Jin honestly appreciated that he couldn't feel the door near him, because while he would have liked to think that he'd have tried to be brave, he was glad it wasn't put to the test just yet. "Just don't make them angry."
He felt both Namjoon and Yoongi needed to hear that, because he doubted Jimin would provoke anyone, purposefully or accidentally.
"Sorry, hyung." Yoongi said that instead of promising anything, because he had heard the click and then he pushed down the handle again, pushing his shoulder against the door at the same time. Then he ran.
All Jin could hear was his retreating steps, unfortunately followed by yells of at least three separate men. He had no idea what was happening, but the noises he heard didn't sound promising. Rustling, something impacting with something, then a lot of cursing, both from the men yelling at Yoongi and, Jin was fairly sure, pained insults coming from Yoongi himself.
"Damn, damn, damn..." Jin screwed his eyes shut, for all the difference that made, breathing through his nose and trying to keep from panicking.
"Oh no." Jimin sniffled a little, tears wetting the hood over his head as he sat there and listened to Yoongi cursing in pain. He hated this, he hated that he wasn't stronger and he hated that he couldn't just cover his ears. This was horrible, he wanted to leave and go home. Would the others know they were missing? Would they help?
"Fuck." Namjoon didn't normally curse but this was an extreme circumstance. The door was still a little open but running seemed too risky to attempt. He did, however, want to go out there just to help Yoongi. He hated this, he didn't want his friend to be hurt. "He's going to be fine. We all are. Just gotta be smart, okay? Smart. Don't-- Don't fuck up."
He was babbling a little but he hated the idea of Jin and Jimin being afraid.
"...what would be fucking up?" Given the circumstances, Jin would really like to know that. Running certainly seemed to fall under it though. Still. He had to try and be stronger than this. "We'll keep you safe, Jimin."
At least they'd try. There was no further sound from outside at the moment, which was really even scarier, but finally heavy boots approached and he could hear one of the sharp voices from before. "Get out. No funny business from any of you."
Jin wasn't sure how to get out, given his position in the car, but finally a hand grabbed his shoulder and he was dragged out. He brushed against another body as he walked, assuming it was Namjoon. The sniff coming from in front of them sounded a lot like Jimin and they were all lead in the same direction, whatever that might mean.
When they came to a halt, the same man from before talked again. "Get down. On the ground."
While scrambling to follow the order, Jin decided to try something. "Suga?"
"I'm fine." He sounded normal, but while Jin didn't know Suga as well as Namjoon did, he was still fairly sure that the other hadn't had the easiest life and so for all he knew he might just be good at masking pain. Better than Jin, anyway, because when he got slapped around the head following the exchange, he yelped out loud.
"You left us for a long time in the car then, we had a bit of a chat, you know? It's just a-- Ow!" God damn it, why couldn't he shut up? Namjoon bit his lower lip and tried to keep himself from getting too nervous and worked out. He wanted to be a little shit but he knew how dangerous that was - and yet. Did it stop him? Oh no.
"Quiet!"
"Sorry, I am." And then he got hit again. Man, they did not hold back. He winced and kept his head low, hoping to avoid hits. He was the tallest here, made him an easy target.
He was the leader here but he didn't know what else to do... he wanted to ask what they were here for but that didn't seem like a good time. And he hated that he could hear Jimin trying not to cry and Yoongi breathing heavily, just knowing that Jin was scared. God, this sucked.
"Right. Let's see who we got." Jin blinked when the bag was removed from over his head, looking around. Not very telling, seemed like a warehouse, maybe? A barren room, either way. Only one door, no windows. He looked around for Yoongi, who had already had the bag taken off and who was on his knees just like them. His lip looked bloody and some of his clothes seemed torn, but the light was a bit too dim to judge the state of him otherwise, especially since there was still a few metres between them.
Yoongi's eyes were trained on Jimin, understandably. He might be the one who'd gotten a beating, but Jimin... Well, he was Jimin. The bag was taken from his head and the kidnappers laughed, probably because he already looked as if he'd been crying.
"Aw. So cute."
Jin shook his head when he saw Yoongi's eyes narrow, then he looked over when Namjoon finally also got his head freed.
"You are the leader, right? I recognise you." Evidently the kidnappers had done their homework.
"Are you ARMY?" At Yoongi's mocking question Jin whipped around his head, honestly not even surprised when he saw his band mate get kicked into the side for that. He still seemed to be smirking. What was he trying to accomplish?
"...I'm the oldest." So there. Bravery. Even if he didn't manage to actually look at any of those awful men in their ugly masks, instead staring at the ground. And, admittedly, glancing at Namjoon.
Jimin flinched when Yoongi got hurt and yelped, closing his eyes and shaking a little harder. No, no, no, he hated this so much. He didn't want them to laugh at him, he couldn't stop crying and he couldn't help his friends - his heart was just racing in his chest.
Namjoon inhaled sharply and pulled himself upright, knowing that he had to play leader or they'd be stuck with Jin in charge. And he was a big coward, he really didn't need this kind of stress. He'd crack quickly.
"I'm the leader. Rap Monster, actually." Why did he add that? Eh, whatever. Time to own it. He offered a cocky smirk and tried to seem cooler and more confident than he was. "They'd know that if they really were ARMY, Suga. Come on."
He leaned forward, giving Suga a look. Yeah, the two of them were going to have to take the brunt of this but that was okay, right? They were protecting their friends. "If you want money, we're all broke. Believe it or not."
Suga met Namjoon's eyes, not even bothering to nod. He knew they were on the same page. He licked the blood off his lip and smiled. "I'll give you an autograph if you ask nicely. I'm the most popular."
What were they even trying to accomplish here? Jin looked at Namjoon with wide eyes, wanting to know if he'd completely lost it. "Be quiet!" Apparently someone had to tell them.
"I'm sure you are broke, pretty boys." The kidnapper didn't seem very fazed. "Your agency isn't. Bet your families aren't either."
"Oh yeah." Suga clicked his tongue, purposefully bringing out the Daegu accent. "My family is super rich. My father's a CEO. Bigger than Samsung."
"Yeah, you want a cut of my mom's state pension?" Namjoon had to laugh because if he didn't, he'd just be afraid. This was easier for himself and for the two they were trying to protect. At least he didn't have to pretend to be quiet right now because that was just never going to happen
"Stop it, you'll get hurt." Jimin hissed at Yoongi and Namjoon, even if he turned just to look at Yoongi, wide eyes full of fear. He didn't get why they were doing this, they'd just get hurt. He was with Jin - had they lost their minds? Jimin felt a surge of bravery and looked up at the kidnappers... oh no, big mistake.
They were massive. "Please, we--we will co-operate. These two, they're just scared."
"Jimin, shh." Namjoon snapped, trying to make his tone as harsh as he could to properly convey that he really shouldn't be butting in. "We're just having fun, come on."
"Aren't you helpful? Glad someone here was raised right."
Jin froze when they turned their attention to Jimin, finally getting an inkling about what Yoongi and Namjoon were actually trying to do here. However, now there was a man leaning over Jimin, holding on to his hair with what did not look like a gentle grip.
"You'll do what we say, right?"
"Leave him alone." Yoongi's voice wasn't joking this time, instead lower and, he hoped, threatening.
God, that hurt. Jimin whimpered in pain and tried to pull free but he couldn't, he just looked up at the guy with panicked eyes. "I-I will, yes, I'm sorry. Please, that hurts!"
"Oh, come on, he's an easy target. What do you think you are? Big man, picking on a kid. You want a fight, come at us. You hear me, dickless?" Namjoon snapped, trying desperately to get the attention off Jimin. This was bad, this was the worst possible outcome. Why did the kid have to open his mouth? "Let him go."
"He'd be good for a video, what do you think?" The kidnapper holding on to Jimin's hair looked around at his partners for agreement, but before they could say anything, they were interrupted.
"He's no use, he can't act," Yoongi tried, keeping his voice as empty of emotion as he could, "If you want people to care, use me. I'm already beaten up."
"...point." The man closest to Yoongi inspected him. "He looks cuter than he is. Bet we can make him cry."
After being knocked around to make him look like a convincing hostage, Namjoon was marched into the same room that Yoongi was in, bleeding from the mouth and looking a little freaked out. He couldn't show what a coward he was around Jin and Jimin but here, he felt free to let himself just panic a little.
"Okay, so, like, what? I just ask for money and you get money and then... we're all good, yeah? We can just go?" Seemed worth a shot ironing out the details.
"If we get the money and you don't give us any more trouble. Sit down." Namjoon was forced into a chair right next to the one Yoongi was in, both of them in view of the camera, which was currently turned off. Yoongi was breathing hard, between having bled from his nose and been hurt more for a convincing show on camera, but he tried to give Namjoon a smile to encourage him.
"Do a good job, RM, maybe we can use it for our next MV. I did really well."
"As long as I don't have to freestyle. You know I hate freestyle." Namjoon joked as he tried his best to smile, feeling a bit rattled and nervous. He was given guidelines of what to do by the kidnappers and he tried to take note of them all, a little tongue tied and anxious by the time the camera was turned on.
Shit, how did he do this? "Hi, I'm Rap Monster... Namjoon." Oh boy, this was already fucking up. "Sorry, I didn't know how to intro myself." Why was he now telling the kidnapper. Ohhh no, this was -- he had to breath. "I'm requesting the sum these men desire for the return of our lives. Myself, Jimin, Jin and Suga. This guy." He nodded his head towards Suga. "He did the rap part of Boys in Luv. Good song, not loving the concept but stay tuned cause my next album is going to be way more experimental. I read this, uh, this book... any of you guys ever read Demian?"
"...Joonie." Suga tried to keep his voice low, not sure why he was even surprised. He looked at Namjoon from the side, "This isn't a vlog." Maybe he needed a reminder.
At least so far the men filming them said nothing, perhaps not quite catching on to what the hell Namjoon was on about. Maybe he should be supportive of Namjoon, even if he was off on a weird tangent?
"It is a good book. Jin can be Abraxas. He seems kind of Godly. Handsome. You know." Oh boy. Clearing his throat, he repeated the locals, the time limits and the rules of this negotiation process, trying not to babble but it was hard not to. He found himself looking at Suga, his heart racing in his chest.
"We'd really like to, uh, to live... so yeah, please-- please send the money. Thanks."
Yoongi bowed his head when Namjoon finished, not really wanting to play around with this. "Please. Thank you a lot."
If ever there had been a time to show manners, it was now. The kidnappers turned off the camera and nodded their approval. "There you go, boys. We'll get this to them and see how they react."
"What happens until then?" Yoongi just had to ask.
"Oh, that depends on how well you all behave. Now get up."
They dragged them back out of the room, Namjoon being pushed through the door back to Jimin and Jin first, closely followed by Yoongi, who stumbled and fell to his knees. It had been a long day.
"Eager to get down?" The kidnappers were amused, especially one of them, who grabbed Yoongi's hair. "Is that how you got to join an idol group? Got on your knees, sucked some cocks?"
Yoongi stubbornly stayed silent, actually eager to get through this without risking another beating.
"You should suck mine next."
All right, that was it. Yoongi pulled himself free, scoffing. "Too small. Not worth the effort."
It took a moment for them to catch on, but then the others laughed and the one he had insulted got really, really angry. "You little shit!"
He pulled back his fist and Yoongi couldn't pretend this time, he curled in and tried to shield his face, his actual fear very obvious.
Jimin forgot all about pretence and secrecy, ripping his hands from the tape and launching forward. Jimin was a soft boy in general, in looks and in personality, but when he got angry, he was a whole different person. He came charging at the guy who was about to hit Yoongi and punched him as hard as he could in the face.
And
It
Hurt.
"Don't touch him! Don't ever touch him!" All his hurt, panic and fear came out in this explosive moment as he shoved the guy back and kicked out at the one who approached him next, kicking and flailing his arms in an attempt to keep them away from him while trying to get some damage in.
"Jimin!" Jin forgot to worry about himself, trying to move forward so he could somehow protect Jimin instead. He had broad shoulders, surely he could hide tiny Jimin behind them?
Yoongi didn't feel any better, if not even worse, no longer caring about the fear he felt before and instead trying to throw himself at the guy that was going after Jimin. In the end what happened was that he was pushed back and Jimin got punched so he fell on his back, one of the men putting his boot against his throat, threatening to crush his windpipe.
As he sat up, Yoongi stared at Jimin with wide eyes, absolutely terrified for him. "Please." Suddenly he sounded very subdued. "Don't hurt him. He's just scared."
"He's still young," Jin tried as well, terrified for Jimin.
"Come on, man, he's a kid! Don't kill him!" Namjoon tried as well, wanting to get closer to help but he was pretty much useless without his hands. They couldn't get much closer, could they? They couldn't risk setting the guy off.
Jimin lay on the floor, struggling to breathe, trying to pry the boot off his throat. It was unmovable! He clawed at the leg and tried to punch it to get free but that just made it press down harder and really rub his sole down. It hurt so much!
One of the other guys kicked Jimin hard in the side to try and get him to stay still.
"Got ourselves an escape artist here, huh? Thinks he's clever."
"It's my fault! He was protecting me. You can hurt me instead." Yoongi had no idea what to do, but he had to try. "Please."
"I can hurt you anyway, genius." But the man did finally move his leg, mostly because it had started to get tired from that position. He held a hand out to one of the others. "You have the cuffs, right?"
Just a few seconds later and Yoongi had to watch how handcuffs were fastened around Jimin's wrists, pushed tight enough that he was sure it had to hurt. He blinked, feeling tears threaten for the first time that day. Bravado was a lot harder to put on when it was Jimin in danger.
"We should secure all of them better. Don't want to risk anything."
"Ah, it's too tight!" Jimin cursed in pain as he wriggled around, not sure what was happening around him, too busy focusing on his own pained voice and the movement around him.
"That's kind of the point, you little twerp."
Namjoon protectively pushed himself in front of Jin and tried to glare the kidnappers down, looking over at Yoongi and see how broken down he looked. That wasn't a good thing at all. He hoped someone paid up quickly, they couldn't go on like this.
"We're already plenty secure, he just -- he's a -- he's got small hands, easier to slip free. Look, we'll be good and we'll keep an eye on the kid. Promise." Namjoon was hoping reason would help a little. He didn't want to make things worse for them all.
Yoongi just watched Jimin, trying to think of how he could help him, but it wasn't as if he didn't know that begging wouldn't help. Mercy wasn't really in the cards here.
"Make it tight on him too. He's got small wrists." He looked up just in time to realise that they were referring to him, but he couldn't really do anything to stop it anyway, he wasn't willing to risk aggravating them more, not right now. So he held still when the tape was cut, then let them put the handcuffs on him, biting his already bloody lip to keep from making a sound.
"We won't try anything. He won't again either, he's a good kid." Jin didn't want the handcuffs on him, it seemed so much more finite, but he realised it was even worse to watch them manhandle Namjoon - again - and cuff him. Maybe that was why he was subdued by the time they got to him, staring at the ground and beginning to breathe too quickly.
"You got any tape left?" The man Jimin had attacked before looked at one of his partners, while gesturing at Jimin. "I'm not done with this one."
"Please!" Yoongi couldn't stay silent, not when they were threatening Jimin. "It's my fault. Just do it to me. I ran earlier too, he's just copying me."

"Got ourselves an escape artist here, huh? Thinks he's clever."
"He's young, he's just stupid! Please, don't."
